Here's the contact details for ZF in Sydney, easier for us to find stuff than your internet. They will need the serial number of the box (identifies the exact version) to give you an idea of replacement.
You will want to get a new rear input seal for the transfer box at the same time ideally. Give them a call first thing on Monday to get a price and timing - you've seriously nothing to lose in comparison to straight second hand job. The rules of forum state we are not allowed to bad mouth companies, therefore I can't state one way or another about what the second hand options are like. However, most second parts places will do no more than take a box out, pressure wash and send up. There will be no idea most likely of the actual condition other than the odometer reading of the donor vehicle, I would be suspicious of statements to the contrary unless you get a box from a movable vehicle or the owner of the car.
However, if ZF is too expensive then I guess 2nd hand is the only option.

You are 36h drive for me otherwise I'd head up to lend a hand - feeling for you mate! Is it insured for a mysterious and unfortunate fire?

Thanks for that Steve I will call them Monday I'll add it to my to do list along with CIL to chase up the caravan siding and axle/wheel repair. Just to have a laugh CIL asked if I could take it to one of their repairers in Albany or Busselton I asked if they wanted to pay for a 2500km tow to get there!🤣 They respectfuly declined so there is a caravan suspension repairer here taking care of that and I'm going to do a patch up job on the siding dammage till we get home.

Hi all here's the latest update still in Kununurra just had another tranny delivered and fitted in the process the mechanic found the Hall's creek numbscull had put in a wrong bolt rattled it in and punched a hole into the transfer case! Fortunately it was repairable but we're still not mobile as XYZ switch has now decided to **** itself so another is on the way hopefully here by Monday. Caravan axle and rim/tyre replacement as well as jockey wheel was done last week and I've patched the pannel dammage myself as there are no caravan repairers here, so as I was packing up from the pannel repair I noticed the tyre which was originaly the spare was down. Went and got the compressor twisted the valve cap to attach it and the valve stem broke off! I really can't get a win on this trip I swear I've not run over any people of an Asian persuasion or hit any Albatrosses but the hits keep on comming!🤣

What is your intended route on the trip - might be good to see if you are passing a sympathetic member who could go over everything with/for you to try and get things running smoothly for the rest of the trip.

Get the old XYZ switch and open it up - most people say it's just a case of needing a good clean and refitting - it will provide a spare if nothing else, maybe even allow you to be mobile waiting for the new one to get some joy for a few days.

I can't remember which one it is, but if you can it's worth checking the mechanic didn't use the wrong bolt in the wrong hole for the transfer case, one of them is longer and contacts the gears if put in the wrong hole. A google might turn up a bit more info.
