Still not finished but getting there..
Big thanks to those that have post a lot of the the info that I needed and who have responded to some of my most inane questions.
I've slightly modernised the vehicle without compromising it's original look or capabilities. Learned how to install a sunroof. How to re-program the ECM to match 98 octane fuel. The wonders of silicone sealant. How to install 3 video cams. Paint and interior restoration. Replace a headliner.mc
How difficult was the headliner did it take long?
Whats with the reprog of the ECU?
Also just picked up a new key fob casing and buttons from ebay. Quality case and buttons with the logo on them. Approx $25- , a weeks postage from supplier topfobs, recommended if you need a new case and not just buttons (or if you only need buttons but want the logo).
Also waiting on a leather sew on steering wheel cover, again ebay, again appox $30- posted from UK (supplier customsteering). Will get pics when fitted.
What was the sewing issue? Out of practice or getting it tight and staying tight while you go around? Is there potential for gluing it on as well?
A bit OT but of all the vendors for shift lever/handbrake boots is there anyone recommended especially that uses leather instead of vinyl.

The sewing issue wasn't a real issue, I don't sew so I got cramps but the finished product was great and(and you have to do it in one hit) looks brilliant. Cheaper than a full replacement leather steering wheel.
Do not under any circumstances glue leather to the steering wheel, the salt sweat and dirt from your hands will make it fall off, damage the original wheel and leave an unsightly mess.
Re-programming the ECM is not something that I recommend for just anyone to do. I am fortunate enough to be friends with a Landrover qualified mechanic who knows exactly what he is doing plus had the equipment I would need to make the various changes that needed to be done. I had a Nanocom scanner, RAVE manual / CD, ODBII connecter and a laptop (plus more software) to monitor the performance of the vehicle under different loads and fuel types for a week before I decided on changes. Also I measured the oxygen levels, gearbox upshifts/downshifts, fuel injector timing then rolled in all together into a complex algorythim.
And even then you need plenty of time on your hands and a good reason for doing it. (it had been done before after I changed the rear suspension)
What did all that achieve? I can sit on 2k RPM with respectable acceleration, fuel consumption, zero noise, no perceptable gearbox changing *and* a bunch of friends who have driven it that said wow for 5 seconds. (and of course my own pleasure).
Anyone off here who has flashed an ECM or attempted to modify things will tell you that changing even the simplest thing can set off a chain reaction to other electronic components that make them fail or behave oddly.
If you want want to get the best fuel economy possible under any circumstances with the v8 version of this car the easiest and safest thing to do is use a high quality, high octane fuel, make sure your tires are always correctly pressurised, keep it serviced, ask for the best quality oil filters and such and learn how to don't floor the thing. Pretty basic.
