So a couple of final question from myself before I jump in by one.

Are the Nanocom evolutions going to stay Vin free?

If I buy a Disco II unit do I need to purchase the TD5 EMS unlock code? What does it enable and what does it do?

    Cheers,

Another question... purely from a functional perspective..... I'm interested in the "group buy".

With the ABS/SLS module.... does this mean that the SLS can be raised/lowered real time???

Will sort out the issued others have been trying to resolve without going to LR for their SLS remote fob and setup $$$$s.

I've been doing some research and corresponding with the folks at BBS about this proposed buy. To clarify what you get...

The NCOM01 kit for Defender TD5 includes support for the following modules/ECU:
    TD5 Engine Management System
    10AS Alarm
    Wabco ABS

The NCOM02 kit for Disco II TD5 includes support for the following modules/ECU:
    TD5 Engine Management System
    Valeo Body Control
    ACE
    SLABS

The NCOM03 kit for Defender PUMA includes support for the following modules/ECU:
    PUMA Engine Management System
    Instrument Pack
    10As Alarm
    Wabco ABS

    All units are multi-vehicle.

The additional "Unlock Code" modules allow you access the other modules on a different model. e.g. if you have a D2 TD5 unit, you can also access the TD5 EMS on a Defender Td5, but if you want to access the 10AS Alarm and Wabco ABS on the Defender TD5 you will need to purchase the NCOM12 licence as well.

Colin - if you read this, please tell me if I've got it wrong...

So far I have recieved 10 genuine expressions of interest (EOI). Doing the "hub and spoke" distribution thing does not seem to work yet as the EOI'ers are scattered around NSW, Vic, WA and Qld.

    The Simple Facts:
Shipping for a single Nanocom unit out of Cyprus to Oz will cost between $45 and $75 depending on shipping method.

Shipping 10 units costs around $260, and 20 units almost $400. Let's say $26 each for 10 units and $20 each for 20 units.

A quick calculation of Import Duty and GST gives a landed cost of approx $425 each for 10 units, or approx $405 for 20 units.

My accountant tells me I have to charge GST if I pass this through the Hard Range books, to negate the import GST, so the per unit price becomes $470 (for a group buy of 10) or $440 (for a group buy of 20). This seems a little odd to me... if I pass-through the Import GST to you, which I should be able to claim back through my quarterly BAS, why should I have to charge you GST again once the kit is landed? Any accounting types out there who can advise please?

Add $15 for Express Post from me (in Canberra) to you. I can fit 2-3 units in an Express Post pack if you want to "spoke" with a couple of mates to reduce the domestic shipping a bit.

As IanP states, a sub-$1000 purchase should not attract GST or Import Duty (unless Customs catch you doing several sub-$1k purchases from the same supplier in a short period). For 1-2 units at a time, and between mates, this could be a goer.

I have NFI about a 10% AULRO discount... wish I knew about that when I bought my FaultMate MSV-2 a couple of years ago

So, that's what I have so far... you can buy direct from BBS individually for around $510 inc shipping... or you can save $20-70 through a group buy with me.

Up to you if think it is worth it. Either way, I will stand by my promise to facilitate a group buy if you want it.

I am yet to have a play with a Nanocom Evolution but I sell a lot of FaultMate MSV-2 Extreme's for a few hundred dollars more than this in single-vehicle and multi-vehicle configs, and that is for all ECU's in the car (e.g. for Disco 2... + SRS, Transmission, HEVAC and Cruise) and it comes with the Vehicle Explorer software for your PC which is pretty powerful.

Anyway, I'm just presenting my findings so far... subject to change if/when better info comes through.

    Cheers, Paul.

Paul, I am not an accountant but my understanding is that if you do put the money through your business; yes you do need to charge GST.

Re the AULRO 10% discount - Ron at BBS has said '10% is offered to established members but only on the MSV-2 systems and not the Nanocom, FCR or any Basic Bits'.

A quick 'back of the envelope' calculation on the different methods of getting the Nanocoms indicates a group buy figure of $487 assuming that Paul (or whoever) was able to pass the money through a personal (non business) account. This includes the quantity discount, plus freight, duty, GST and local freight. If Paul passed the money through the business account, the price would be approx $530 (not sure how GST on GST works).

The cost of buying direct would be $517 - $442 (no discount) plus $75 freight.

If Colin was prepared to accept a quantity order (and a single payment) then dispatch to individual members; the the price would be $428 - $442 less 20% plus $75 freight.

So Colin - how can we make this work and dispatch to individual members!

    Cheers
    Ian

As per this post by Colin, the Nanocom does qualify for the discount :

Thanks IceFyre, It seems like we are getting different stories regarding the AULRO discount depending on who we talk to!

I think we need to wait for someone from BBS to clarify all this as it is a tad on the confusing side Price/Discounts/Postage etc

Ordered 23rd delivered Friday 28th. Quick, no fuss. DHL tracking let me keep an eye on it all the way. I'll give BBS this - they did exactly what they said they would and kept me informed.

I hope the after market support is as good - time will tell but this is an excellent start and I have no reason to doubt them based on this. Just have to lay my hands on it now - delivered to my Sydney office the day I got posted regionally - it'll have to catch me up.

I didn't hear about the AULRO discount but wouldn't have qualified for it since I don't / haven't posted enough. So I payed the price on the website - I'm happy with that and I think it's reasonable; if the product support is better than before then it'll turn out to have been a real bargain. If you feel you need to shave off some more $s then the group buy sounds attractive but if you wan't it speedy I'd just take the full price - sounds like quite a bit of hassle for what may turn out to be not that many $s.

Anyway guess I'll be posting a bit more on the threads relating to using the unit rather than getting one - see you there once you get one.

    Ian.
