Robbie Deans was a very good coach, he just didn't have the right rugby culture for success in Aus. Bob

He took super rugby to a level that no other coach did.
Didn't he take over in 2000 when they had already won two titles?

I don't think he could adapt his coaching style. Just because it worked in Super Rugby is no guarantee it will work at international level.

Calls are this side of the ditch we need to be wary. Interesting take from Mehrtens. Are they going to fade with a whimper, or come back kicking and biting and big plays all over?

It would seem neither does Mckenzie who also was a very successful club coach. So who in Australia can do the job?

You don't understand, the culture I'm talking about comes from the different Unions, and management. Not every Union in Australia is on the same page. For example, Sydney clubs were adamant there wouldn't be a 2nd tier comp. like the ITM , because that would mean teams such as Randwick & Eastwood taking a back seat. That the ARU got the NRC up & running must have put some very influential noses out of joint. The ARU, in their wisdom, to cut costs, took away the role of team manager , and split the responsibilities around. Every successful Wallaby side has had a high profile team manager, to take some load off the Coach. The ARU are going back to that, so some good will come out of this, after all. McKenzie is the man for the job, he just needs to be allowed to coach, without the politics. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, Bob

Yep, some interesting reading there Bob. Didn't realize Ewen devolved some roles to increase his. Genia (and maybe Cooper) coming in can only bring some added sting. Bring on the weekend. Got a furiously busy week ahead and this game is going to be something to slow down for and look forward to.

Let's hope the Wallabies can be competitive. How did SBW go for Counties Manawatu? [ That's who he played for, I think]. Bob
