Those firearms are still around,registered for a purpose.Operator also has to have a license for the particular firearm category.
It’s generally only a short term registration.
Lots of hoops to jump through.
One purpose,as an example,is vermin control,shooting out of helicopters,by professionals.
For me,and I have been shooting since I was a kid,and still shoot,I don’t really mind the rules as they stand today.
If we go the other way,there would be too many weapons around,particularly handguns,as there are in the US.
Many have no idea what they are capable of,or even just general baseline safety around firearms.
As for the criminal element,no matter what the rules are they will still get what they want,that’s just the way it is.
The authorities just have to do the best they can.
Anyway just my 2 cents worth
