Funny too that I can't go to Costco - because it's just outside my 5km radius - but a lot of people appear to be commuting to their holiday homes on the Peninsula with impunity.

Unless its moved since I lived there Oakleigh is actually is 14 Kms south EAST of the City, 20 Kms south would put it in the middle of Port Phillip Bay

Good mate of mine lives in one of these towns with his family. This town has the oldest demographic in the state.

He has a holiday house either side, Melbourne owners.

The residents in this town were / are very concerned about the 'business as usual' attitude of the Meldournites showing up at their seven figure holiday shacks during both lockdowns, even angry.

Word of this anger got back to Melby. In the end neighbours on one side of this mate of mine used to ring him to suss the situation before they came down and assure him they would not be leaving the property while they were there.

Other holiday houses have been occupied full time from before the latest lockdown, which is not a problem to the locals.

The only exceptions to this are the ones that have the extra 'car' showing up at weekends. There's a couple of classic cases of this I walk past every morning walking the Tassie poodle.

I can only assume the 'visitors' are using a 'work' loophole.

Go to the opposite extreme and what's the worst that could happen? The child and/or parents were infected in Sydney, bring it into Qld, spread it around, numerous people get sick and some die.

Is it worth the risk to avoid the inconvenience for the family of 14 days in hotel quarantine?

    Hard decisions.
I honestly can't see a difference between home and hotel quarantine in this instance, I would think the the risks would be the same as long as the trip from the airport is straight home, no interaction with people outside the house, etc, etc. and continued testing is made.

It's the time it takes for the bureaucratic wheels to move that must be hard to take for those impacted.

I still can't believe what happened in Albury re the transit of ACT residents from Vic through NSW.
All approvals made and met and then a blanket NO when trying to cross the border, all approvals were revoked
I think that took the best part of a week to sort.
It's that inability for someone in authority to make a decision, to actually take responsibility that rankles.

A mate of mine used that 'loophole' here to go mountain biking in the Gold Coast hinterland when we could still apply for passes.
It's an entitled "rules don't apply to me" attitude.

Everybody should be subject to the same rules.
Because some people have proven that not everyone can be trusted to comply with home isolation, supervised, central quarantine is the only viable alternative.

Everyone isn't though, transport in its various forms has to continue, and it seems sports people and 'celebrities' aren't held to the same rules.

We'll have to agree to disagree in these med cases, I think compassionate grounds can be made in instances like this as it's not by choice having to travel interstate for medical reasons.

Yes, but it's definitely not one of Melbourne's "Northern Suburbs".

First things first, Rick, you need to know who the "someone in Authority" is which seems to be a bit of a puzzle atm.

There appear to be many Chiefs & maybe not so many Injuns out there tripping over each other in their "eagerness" to battle this thing & get mightily paid for it to boot..

If Govt Depts act like they did in Pre-covid days the Head Honchos farm this sort of decision out to, wait for it, Consultants. (Surprise, surprise) This gets the Head Honchos off the hook if the brown stuff hits the spinny thing.

You usually find that THE Consultants are former members of that Dept staff that were fired or took redundancy. Jobs for the mates? I should think so.

For the Govts. it looks great on paper as a "cost saving exercise".
