Indeed why mention it? COVID can and has killed in a number of different ways, only some of which have been reliably characterised and only one which looks like sepsis. The medical profession is still trying to come to terms with some of the short term and potentially lifetime damage it causes in order to figure out how to treat it.

It’s no joke and this is not “just the flu”. “The flu” does not cause inflammation of the endothelium resulting in the lining of your veins shredding your blood cells. Just one of the fun ways to die due to COVID. They understand this one as it’s similar to a graft vs host reaction after a stem cell transplant. It doesn’t respond to the same treatment though.

Don’t try and underplay it or wash it away as a conspiracy. There are a number of reasons for it being fatal, only some of which are understood enough to treat.

Sepsis is not highly infectious and does not spread rapidly - that is the key difference. Covid-19 is, as far as I can determine, more infectious than any serious disease except measles, and together with its relatively long incubation period this means that unchecked it spreads like wildfire. And it has a CFR at least ten times* that of Flu, has no effective treatment, and at least in some cases (how many?)has long term illness.

These are the reasons it is important.

*If we look at Australian cases which are concluded, that is, either recovered or died, currently the CFR is around 3%. Seasonal Flu is about 0.1%

This thread is a hoot. People putting up a post based on a media report, being howled down by people using differing information from, one would have to assume, a different media report.

Some on here, who appear to be very well educated, sprout stuff without alluding to any reliable source.

Is there such a thing as a 'Reliable Source'?

You forget it is a forum not a medical paper - sources are not necessary as all posts are nothing more than the expression of opinions.

On a good news front - Victoria has now had 4 days this week with no new cases and 6 days with no deaths. Only 2 people remain in hospital but with no one in ICU.

With around 20,000 tests being done a day this a great result.

But they are all retirees and that is what they do at this time of year. Corona Virus

Business for the most part has ramped right back up here.
We're employing new staff, we had a new bloke start last week in Ballina as our workload is crazy, all overtime restrictions were revoked at the beginning of the month across all five branches here in NSW and the projects/installation side of the business is pretty much back up to full load.
My sister's partner works for a big John Deere dealer in the bush and they can't keep up with equipment and spares sales thanks to the excellent season most of NSW has had across winter.
The shopping centres I do work for are also filling vacant tennancies, often tennancies that have been vacant for years.
We are picking up quite a bit of the mech services work in these, I've done probably four times the number of site inspections in the last two months than I've done in the previous 2.5 years I've been here in northern NSW, so retail is picking right up.
It's got to the point that my service manager has told our engineers and project managers to stop ringing me untill we get more staff on the ground Corona Virus

Our Brisbane branch is flat out too, and I think they need at least one more staff member.

I also wonder what's going on - if there are any Victorian retirees currently wandering around Queensland that would mean that they've been there since at least the start of August. Unless the border actually is porous?
