WA's situation is more good luck than good judgment, with its remoteness being a definite advantage.
Every state and territory is in the same boat, regarding the risk coming from overseas.
Compulsory vaccination cannot be mandated nor added as a condition of entry.

Everyone seems to think that the vaccination is the silver bullet and everything just returns to normal.

The web is full of responsible entities, eg CDC, saying that masks should still be worn even after vaccination.

I won't elaborate why because it's a bit lengthy but there is consensus on this.

Wearing masks alone is at least as effective as vaccination in controlling transmission in modelling such as this:

COVID-19

Sure some people don't like this idea, but the world has changed.

A vaccination will only slow the virus, as stated by 350RRC, it's not the silver bullet.

My SiL has just passed away in the UK from old age and dementia. Hubby of 60 plus years not able to see her during her final hours and probably won't be allowed to her funeral under the tier 4 virus rules they're now applying in the South East.
Luckily (I suppose) he has one son by his side but the other (eldest) who lives here in Perth won't be able to go and if he did, probably couldn't get back into this country afterwards.
This is really the only time the virus and/or restrictions has affected any part of my extended family wherever they live, Perth, Sydney, NZ, Switzerland or the USA.
Lucky we certainly are especially in WA.

Except for the Victoria's, we've all become complacent.
I was peeling work clothes off and into the wash as soon as I got home, that isn't happening anymore, I went through much more sanitiser in the first few months than I have in the last few.
Even in cafes here, staff aren't quite as vigilant in sanitising tables in my experience.
Most everyone seems to be using the QR tracing apps, which is great, but I've noticed many more people not hand sanitizing as they enter stores compared to the early days.

Hopefully this latest outbreak reminds people that it isn't over by a long shot.

That's not correct - WA has had bugger-all OS arrivals and had none at all for months.

As the NSW health minister said a couple of days ago, NSW is processing thousands of people a week and 45% are then going on to other states like WA.

30 more cases today but so far none outside the Northern Beaches

Rick, you being of the Cafe Gender would probably have noticed or not in the so called Sanitising of Table how they seem to think chairs are not part of their job. Point is, how many do you see cleanse under the side rails of the chairs where people normally place their hands to pull the chair in after being seated? No, not many.

Shirley that is more or just as important that the table top getting a quick spray & wipe & polish?


The supermarkets still have full bottles of Sanitiser at the entrances which people must thing is pretty naff to use & is why they are still full.

Some places have the dispensing Machines which is fine if they dispense the right amount but ???????????
