On another note I've flown into ADL from MEL many times and there would be a lot of aeronautical adjustments going on as a plane descends over the Adelaide hills.

Flaps down, throttle on a touch, blah blah. Would **** me off totally.

Aeronautical Adjustments? I suppose the Flight Deck Mob really do have to try & miss Mount Lofty Summit & it would shirley form part of their contracts not to crash the plane anywhere en route.

For this particular disease, it is possible, because polio has no lasting effects on most people infected - just had disabling effects on a small proportion of children affected. But since its crippling effects are very noticeable, if it were still "out there", given the numbers of poorly vaccinated clusters in the country, it would have shown its head. Even in PNG where it has reappeared recently, it was noticed, and they have very rudimentary health services compared to here.

An interesting study has been done about notifiable disease outbreak since the implementation of Qld's anti COVID measures. From 1 April to the 30th of September, after the implementation of QLD's COVID-19's preventative measures, there was a decrease seen in several disease notifications, when compared with 2015 to 2019, and for the five year average. [ 2015-2019] These were in mostly Vaccine Preventable diseases[ VPD's]

Diseases with decreased notifications :gastrointestinal disease. VPD's; Influenza, pertussis, rotavirus, and varicella zoster-unspecified.

Diseases with increased notifications; Newly acquired Hep. C , Gonococcal infections, Syphilis. Vector born diseases : Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus, and Zoonotic disease - Q fever.

No notification of dengue fever, malaria, newly acquired HEP. B , or mumps. Definitely no TB, which is now said to be an overseas introduced disease.

The government has now changed its advice for the AstraZeneca vaccine, after a 52-year-old woman died from a brain clot last week.

The AstraZeneca vaccine should now only be given to those aged 60 and above, the chief immunisation body has told the government.

Next it will be 70 and above, then 80 and on and on - all this has been know overseas for quite a while and some countries have banned AZ.

It is little wonder confidence has been lost in the management of these vaccines. I cannot help wonder if the fact that AZ is produced in Aust that this is biasing the decisions on its use.

AZ vaccine costs around $6 to make here.
Pfizer vaccine costs around $35 to import.
And Aust’s supply of Pfizer and the other overseas produced vaccines is susceptible to the vagaries of those countries’ political systems.
Aust doesn’t have capability to produce mRNA vaccines like Pfizer’s, and won’t have for a few years.
So it made sense to go with AZ in the early days.
