Nature is powerful and the lesson is that vaccination isnt the total answer sadly...

Quote: "that COVID harms many people, even those without #LongCovid or hospitalization. COVID predominantly affects the *vascular* system (the blood vessels), causing harm to the blood cells & blood flow,t his has a downstream impact on nerves, immune system, & multiple organs, including the brain. Vaccination prevents against death, but not against long term damage.

So, would you agree that the ideal is... to NOT get the infection.

I recived my initial 5x free RAT tests yesterday and I also recived this email.
It is looking like WA has indeed learnt from what some of the other States did wrong by making these tests FREE to everyone in the State

Millions of more free Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) will be delivered toWestern Australians as part of the next phase of the Australian-firstWA Free RAT Program, which is providing 15 free RATs to every householdin the State. An additional 10 RATs will be delivered to the address you nominatedwhen you registered for your first order of the initial five RATs, so you don’t need to do anything further.
You will not be able to collect this order.
If you have since moved to a different address, or you are currentlyaway for an extended period, please call 13COVID (13 26843). You willbe asked to quote your order number from your first order.
For more information on how to take a Rapid Antigen Test or for further assistance about this program, please refer to the COVID-19 Coronavirus: Rapid Antigen Tests page.
To find out more about COVID-19 testing and isolation guidance, whatto do if you get COVID-19 and how to make sure you’re prepared, visitthe WA Government’s Managing COVID-19 page.
If you need this information provided to you in another language, please contact 13 COVID (13 26843), where you can access aninterpreter.
Thank you for playing your part in helping to keep WA safe.

    Regards

Not sure anyone in NSW actually paid for tests anyway, our house is awash with them, eldest daughter and SWMBO have as many free ones as they want from their employer and I've been given a stack from work. There's a pretty good swap culture around to supply anyone else who needs them now that they are freely available.

I'm sure WA are concerned and worried but the Eastern states are moving on with life. The number of people off work is still having an impact, along with those isolating as close contacts but there is little of the stress and worry about the unknown that there was last year. It was interesting to see how quickly the "shock horror" stories about the new sub variant of Omicron dropped out of the press when it didn't generate clicks

Umm.. You can buy them for your own curiosity, however if you think you need one you can get one free.

Let’s remember the one catch - RATs do NOT detect around days ~1-5 and post day ~8

So if you think you have covid symptoms go into town and get a free RAT test.

Don't you think that it is FAR better to already have the RAT tests on hand so that you don't expose or be in contact with anyone else by having to go and get a free test?

Works just fine here in NZ. I'm wearing a mask and sitting in my car. The nurses are wearing a mask, face shield and other PPE and are in an open marquee with good air flow in a drive-through situation. Works really well here. It gives you a chance to also ask questions about your symptoms or other things covid related. When I went through a couple of weeks back, they were pulling people to one side for triage if necessary - pulse oxi-meters and temperatures etc. Seems to be able to relieve pressure on GPs frontline services and is an asset in dealing with the pandemic, not a liability.

I was refering to RAT tests not PCR tests, Of course you have to front up for a PCR test as that can't be done at home.

I was talking about RATs as well. They give RATs away via drive through systems here. I got a 5-pack when I drove through just for my wife and I who both had similar symptoms. PCR testing is so 2021.

PCR testing was overwhelmed here when omicron took hold so they reserved PCR for people who threw two negative RATS over two days and still had covid symptoms. Positive PCR tests make up a very small proportion now of our daily numbers. Our numbers though are distorted by the need to self-report positive RATs. Take todays numbers for example:

    • Number of new community cases: 19,452
    • Number of new community cases (PCR): 522
    • Number of new community cases (RAT): 18,930

19,452 community cases; 971 hospitalisations; 21 in ICU; 24 deaths reported today | Ministry of Health NZ
