we as outsiders have no input into the show

we can only get on here and have our say on how disappointed we were in the show

i myself don't really go for the show itself i only go to meet all the guy's

i know how hard it would be to set it all up but after 22yrs you would think it would almost run itself

22yrs is a long time to keep getting it wrong

mark i'm not having a personal attack at you

but where the hell were you sunday morning while i was waiting for my egg/bacon rolls

    4x4 Show @ Wandin

This was the first year I attended. It sure was hot which in a way detracted from the day but obviously couldn't be helped.

I was impressed with the ticketing area and the speed in which we entered and parked. Congrats to LROCV & CFA in this area.

Getting around to all the exhibitors was easy enough. I was mainly looking for general accessories so found a good variety.
Any exhibitors reading this - considering there was going to be a significant number of LR owners there, how about bringing LR accessories and LR vehicles fitted with such accessories. Will help with demonstations and selling next time.

I agree that LROCV members at the marquee seemed a little standoffish but the heat would have been a big factor here.

Main improvements I could suggest would be:
Clearly identifiable volunteers walking the crowd so questions could be asked.
Few more rubbish bins would have been good (not sure if this was an issue for clean-up crews)
Bit more shade on such hot days but again I appreciate this is all cost. I suppose I felt for the parents with young ones in prams etc.

Thank you to LROCV for putting on the event and I will be back next year to see how it goes. Thanks also to CFA volunteers for their time.

Oh - big criticism - I didn't get to see Kenny at the dunnies

Having been on the Committee of a 4WD Club I undertand the issues that can arise where events are put on - it always seems the same old few volunteers put in all the hard work and it seems everyone else just whinges.

No one here I'm sure is trying to denegrate all the hard work that went in to organising the show.

But it's important for event organising committees to listen to constructive criticism ( no matter where it comes from ) rather than getting defensive about it.

    G'Day All,

I'm a newbie to this Forum but have been lurking for some years, but I thought after reading a few of the latest comments here that it was time I spoke out, in particular about a few comments made re the LROCV.

i was a member last year and trust me i'll never be one again

some of them being RUDE is a understatement

yes i did put my hand up for a few things whilst i was a member
but got nothing out of it

even sat by myself on a few trips while the secret hand shake went around
I was surprised by Rays comments as I've been a member of a number of 4WD Clubs continually since the mid 1970's (Range Rover Club, Diamond Valley 4WD Club, Haflinger Club of Aust etc, etc) and a member of the LROCV for 12 years now and I think it's great.
During that time I have found most members to be friendly, helpful and courteous (sure their are exceptions but they are few and far between) .... and all this despite the fact that I'm NOT strictly a LR fanatic!

Yes, I drive a classic RR, but my passion is for PINZGAUERS and HAFLINGERS. .... I have 2 Pinzgauers, 2 Haflingers and a 91 RR.

Despite my affliction, the members of the LROCV have been gracious in accepting me into the fold and while I do cop some "friendly flak" from time to time, I have NEVER found it necessary to learn any "secret handshakes".

As regards the Show, yes the weather conditions condition did make it a difficult year, and we learn a little each year, but in general and in speaking to members of the various Clubs there, and indeed some of the exhibitors, most were happy with the result, despite the conditions .... In general it's strange that most of the flak aired to date has been from LR owners / enthusiasts.

thankless task being an organiser sadly, like all things, 95% of the work is done by 5% of the people.

first up I didn't attend but will in future (if within cooee!)

my two cents: digest all the comments - there is a lot of constructive criticism in there, just somewhat veiled!

e.g. - even if the club doesn't like being spoken of as aloof or secretive or disinterested in members... it doesn't mean that others don't see it as such (in whatever way) and this can be tackled.

I'm a member of a public group that as a new member it seems to be highly secretive, BUT the committee has a sub group for introducing new members into the fold - these people only work on helping new members feel welcome. The first meeting I went to I felt like an alien as I'm 34 and the group is dominated by 60+ year olds, but then I found that the people are great, they just feel safer with their own long term buddies...

that said, on a 40 degree day, I can imagine 20 or more club members being in the stand and hanging out with their mates. If not specifically tasked with looking after prospective members, they will ignore the people they don't know - it's normal human behavior... and this is typically seen as being rude because a prospective member believes all they need to do is show up and someone will welcome them into the fold, when that doesn't happen they get insulted to varying degrees depending on the personality of the individual. This might be irrelevant because you already have a new members sub committee - but the effectiveness of member recruitment should not be impacted by the weather as the vic 4x4 show should be THE recruitment event of the year for LROCV- All the active members should be watching for possible new members cruising the stand! if they aren't tell em to pi$$ orf from the stand or give them somewhere else to meet and mingle.

I'll get off my box now

good luck with it Bytemrk, there is much to be gained from the comments made by everyone... even if it looks rough the LROCV guys...

They all seemed to be sitting down in the shade and having too good of a time catching up with old friends then to talk to potential club members.
Crash, just to clarify the situation, I believe you may have wandered into the LROCV volunteers tent (directly behind the grandstand..... We may have to look at cordening it off in the future if that was the case).
This area was for LROCV volunteers to rest and revive (it was sorely needed on the day) after their spell volunteering on the Enterance Gate, Demo Arena, Club tent, Adventure Circuit, Information Booth or any of the other areas that utilise the 150-200 Club volunteers.

The actual LROCV Club tent (next to the "Snake Man's" tent) was manned by 4-5 members who I saw talking to a slow but steady stream of interested people .... I think their was only a few seats in it.
