I've ordered 2 of the DX units, plus I already have the unit in the photo.
The unit in the photo is a bit of a disappointment... each function works ok by itself but you can't listen to the radio while using the GPS which sorta defeats the purpose of an all-in-one unit.
I don't expect you to try to mod it... I just put it up there as an example of another WinCE based GPS.
Depending on what we can do with the DX units, I'm hoping that I may learn more about the inner workings of CE that might let me mod the unit in the photo at some future point.
Cheers, Paul.

The last couple of days have been very educational.
As I had never used a GPS let alone owned one, what I knew about GPS would probably not have filled the back of a postage stamp.
However, now that I have bought one of the 372MHz units and successfully done all of Ranga's modifications, I probably know enough to fill the back of an envelope.
However, I think I need to get the to stage where I know enough to fill an A4 page.
My GPS is doing everything I could expect it to do just with the world map in iGo8 and the trial version of OziEplorer. I learned all sorts of fascinating things yesterday about my speed, maximum speed, average speed, maximum acceleration, minimum acceleration and a whole host of other things.
I know that I need to register OziExplorer and get some maps to make the thing actually useful, but I have reached the stage where I have run into a dead end.
As Garmin XT has been added as one of the Program icons, I assume it will run on this unit. The problem is, how do I get it? The dozens of links I have followed on places like the GPSAustralia forum just lead me to something that requires me to already have some sort of Garmin product installed. A GPSAustralia thread which proclaims that I can download Mapsource for free and legally just takes me to an update of US Topos that seems to need some other Garmin product already there for it to work. I read on one forum that Garmin XT does not run under Windows CE, then I find a link to a version that is supposed to be specifically for CE only to run into another dead end for one reason or another.
I am not just looking for pirated software. I have spent a lot of time on the official Garmin site itself, but it only offers me things that assume I already have some Garmin product installed.
How can I get Garmin XT onto my GPS?
I know I could have asked this question on a GPS specific forum like GPSAustralia, but several hours of reading there have not given me the answer and I thought some other AULRO members who, like me have followed this thread with interest, might be in the same position. I hope I'm not the only one who needs some help at this stage.![]()

Garmin XT does run on this device. gpsunderground.com has some great howto's.
My previous GPS devices have all been Garmin, but out of oziexplorer, iGo, tomtom and Garmin XT, on this device, Garmin XT is the worst performer sadly. The maps lags behind where you actually are when moving enough to be annoying.
To purchase maps try GPSOZ - for all your GPS requirements. they support all recreational devices and are great to deal with.

I have actually made quite a bit of progress since my last post.
I now have Garmin XT running and have added some maps for Garmin and for OziExplorer.
At this stage, because I know so little about the subject, I am just experimenting with some of the free maps. I would like to know a bit more about exactly what I need and what the unit can do before I spend money.
I am probably learning more about how things work by doing it the hard way.![]()

Ranga,
Quick note checking whether or not you got my email and PM last month? Im guessing your inbox may have been flooded by Aulro'ians and im sure your busy. Just hadnt heard from you.
Thanks

I have a basic GPS that I have been more than happy but am now using two cars. Having got lost yesterday because my GPS was in the other car I have decided to get another one for the offroad buggy.
I suppose it is too late to get onto this offer??
If so - any other suggestions - something relatively cheap.
