Then you'll need to look at them both mate, I went rhino, dictated by what was for sale in the second hand market on gumtree. Both are great brands with great reputation and a whole heap of accessories you can buy or make to suit them. The rails run across on the front runner is the main difference. This may make more noise. But that's always going to be up to what you bolt to it. The front runner accessories are exxy, but again very nice.
Yup, my mate had the FR, ive got the Rhino rack. Same MY D4, same length roof rack. His whistled all the time and apparently the diy install needed someone with hands 5mm thick.
That said, lots of nice acc to bolt to it, same as the RR. On mine i ended up riveting the slats at each cross over point, factory is every second and it rattles where not fixed together.
Edit: only rattled when closing the doors, no noise from driving. Ive only got the platform, no side, front or rear rails. The longitudinal rails makes (for us) carrying kayaks etc much easier.
John, primary decision was the potential noise from the mount kit for the Rhino, The front runner is a well built and versatile bit of Kit and I'm sure they both have there pros and cons. I haven't found the noise on the front runner to bad with nothing mounted and will be fitting the additional wind fairing shortly that streamlines the front.
I have the Front Runner, the shorter one which mounts over the rear of the roof only. Can't say I've ever had a problem with noise. Have friend with Rhino, full length. Never complained of noise either but has had problems with the rack mountings coming loose.
Major difference between them IMO is the front runner can use standard 8mm bolts / eyes you can buy anywhere to fix items to the rack. Rhino have there own system.
