Hi Tombie, and I can not believe you would deliberately go backwards.

You now have just two batteries, giving you a total of 120Ah available, and now, with that 50 amp charger, if you use most of that, you will need to drive for at least 3 hours to get those two batteries back up around 95% SoC.

You had a three battery setup, giving you around 160Ah available, and with your 180 amp alternator, you would have had all three batteries back over 95% in less than 90 minutes.

It's simple math. Why on earth did you go backwards?????????????????????????????????

I know What happened to your D3/D4 today? it’s a big difference.

Whilst I cannot see the point of Lithium start batteries I have a few other items to fit and will need some real estate up the front, so setting up for the Lithium weight loss program that will commence soon (both camper and D4) - I didn’t want to go this direction - but it solves a couple of challenges.

The solar panel install will negate some of the draw, so some of the imbalance will be corrected.

I’m also curious to see exactly how it behaves - I got the unit for nix so throw it in and give it a trial - it’s being monitored and the batteries data logged as it goes.

The vehicle isn’t primarily in need of Aux power, a fridge and a few USB devices is basically it’s limit when camping. With the camper is attached it (the camper) has more than enough power to charge the house and vehicle batteries.

Just out of curiosity, how much weight do you think you will save?

About 20kg, and right now it’s a borderline case for legal.

The camper will save more obviously - around 50kg for the capacity desired.

It’s more about needing the real estate of one of the battery locations for something I’m planning!

Was on a roll today - threw in the “made by Tombie” trailer module. No more adapters or shunt boxes to carry.

I have something very similar, with my only regret of not getting the switch up front near the drivers seat. Invariably I drive a day or two with the trailer light flashing at me before I bother to pull over and switch it off :-)
