On the subject of aluminium sheet on the roof rack...

I've just put a sheet of 3mm tread plate, 2400mm x 1200mm, on top of our full-length aluminium roof rack - best thing I've done in ages. Makes it heaps easier walking around on top (when loading/unloading the roof bag, for example), and makes a huge difference to the temperature inside.

Will also make an awesome platform to put the folding chairs on and watch the next lot of racing at Lakeside or similar...

And I think an Al sheet for the roof would be a great option for heat load but also much nicer to walk around on!

Just a quick opinion, if you moved the across roof bar rearward about 75mm, you would then be able to mount a light bar along the roof nicely with the Al sheet coming up to protect it from loads on the roof.

Hi, the bender is aussie made by speedwerx, I got the air over hydraulic one, is a good thing. The tube is 1 3/4" CDS, min 350Mpa. Seamless tube made in Germany for roll cages.

Still not sure on a roof mounted light bar, but I reckon I could just drill holes in the ally sheet near the tube. If not I'll just weld on some tabs.

Only problem is tread plate will chafe through things like a bitch if they shift around.

The cage weighs just under 45kg, so with brackets and ally sheet should be about 55kg total, happy with that

What's a steel ARB roof rack weigh? Can't be much difference.

Yep, ya can't kill a good Landy! They just keep getting better but must admit, I do sometimes wonder why I didn't just buy something new and just drive it!

Finished, all bolted on no problem. Happy with the ally checker plate, will be very good at keeping the sun off, sticks wont poke through and rub the roof, and is good to stand on. Put the safari snorkel back on, made it fit no problem, which is another bonus of the cage design. Most others need a different type of snorkel to fit around the cage and they stick a lot more forward.

Stuck the isuzu Landy stickers on, big thanks to Murray. And stuck the "Land Rover" lettering on bonnet to flash her up a bit. Just waiting to get a few bolts to mount the other snorkel, then it's all finished! Well, sort of...

cage looks epic, something i really wanna do, have you got any close up pics of how it mounts to the body, and do you run anything behind those mount points?
