i hope everything goes to plan.we intend on painting first thing tomorrow, then probably more diff assembly then we will get the old springs out and pick the best ones, clean them up and give them a quick paint i will get new springs one day but for my project this will have to do,depending on how time is going then i might start at looking at getting the 2.25l petrol engine out of my s3 so i can put it in this one for my project if i get all that done tomorrow i will be pleased so fingers crossed
when I did my tractor joints I packed them with Fluid grease, guarantee that it will not leak out......
also with all the pitting the seal will not prevent ordinary oil from leaking out every time you turn the steering wheel.
The seal wipes the surface of the ball all the time and consequently oil is dispersed over the ball joint every time the wheel moves.
That's land rovers for you.
Same happens with your knee joints , except that you dont need fluid grease
BTW the coating on the swivels is hard chrome so dont sand it off Master Tony,
yep thats what we are doing
Saw this the other day on swivel ball repair and might give it a go.
Its from Land Rover FAQ's
Land Rover FAQ - Repair & Maintenance - Series - Drivetrain - Swivel Ball Repair
Was thinking of giving it a crack on the 1953 80" once the Game is back on the road.
Hope this gives members some ideas
