I like the lathe solution but would have used emery paper myself so you would have saved heaps of time on me!

keep up the good work, I hope all comes together well and without fuss...

    fairly happy with the result
when I did my tractor joints I packed them with Fluid grease, guarantee that it will not leak out......
also with all the pitting the seal will not prevent ordinary oil from leaking out every time you turn the steering wheel.
The seal wipes the surface of the ball all the time and consequently oil is dispersed over the ball joint every time the wheel moves.
    That's land rovers for you.
Same happens with your knee joints , except that you dont need fluid grease
BTW the coating on the swivels is hard chrome so dont sand it off Master Tony,

what's wrong with a block and tackle from the roof truss if you tom it up near to the lifting point?
I have done this many times when in a tiss.

Saw this the other day on swivel ball repair and might give it a go.
    Its from Land Rover FAQ's

Land Rover FAQ - Repair & Maintenance - Series - Drivetrain - Swivel Ball Repair

Was thinking of giving it a crack on the 1953 80" once the Game is back on the road.
Hope this gives members some ideas
