Thats the front. Its a cut down VE commodore towbar of a wreck.



Fuel tank plates



The square section is a cut down vk commodore heavy duty tow bar that goes right under the fuel tank. I cut a square section out of the rear x member and slotted it thru and welded the end to the second last rear x member with a plate and then welded two strengthening strips down alongside the square section and bolted them to the rear tow hitch plate which i also welded the square bit too and was bolted thru the rear x member as it used to be. I didnt want a square tow hitch hanging under the chassis stuffing up departure angles, and i also got a better height for the pintle hitch receiver for my No. 5 trailer, so the draw bar is level. Hope this helps.

****, you could tow a TANK, with that Hitch set up.
I have the smaller fuel tank, but the fact the old bracket had been cut away, and the small tank has a bracket, extending through to the Bulkhead out rigger, a larger one may have been fitted at some time..
Guess I should leave this set up, and add a bracket to the LH side.
Then If I ever come across the larger tank, it can be fitted to the RH side and the smaller one to the LH side.

Rods set up looks good, but I have the SWB Chassis.
My welding is gradually improving, as I move through the chassis.
I have redone some of my early attempts.

These are the Tyres I am going to try.

Fitted with correct large valved tube.
Event 7.50x16. 10mm of tread, 8mm to wear tabs.

Check out what "Archangel007" has done to their "88" in the "Plugger and the camel" thread with regards to a square tow hitch receiver. Im jealous of his hitch. Page 17 &18 of the thread.

Never seen those before but a quick google shows they are quite cheap and have good reviews - nice find. Tyres4u sell them - not sure where you got yours from, but looks like a good option for the 750/16 brigade.

Regarding the hitch, when I built one for my 101 I bought a towbar from the wreckers for $50 from a late model triton (which had been hit up the arse, so the bend towbar cannot be reused - it's basically scrap) and cut out the square HR bit and grafted that into my hitch design. The beauty of this is that it is 100% the correct size, holes and everything already done and it came with the approval and data plate showing load capacity, etc which is now on the one I made so it looks like a factory bar.
