When I got the pin out of the planetry gears, I noticed a couple of things.
One pin, was a split pin, the other just a pin, with nothing to really hold it in place.
The pin is tapped in and the shaft then pressed in so that the split-pin can be entered into the other side, this bends the pin. The bent pin can't come out one way because of the bend and the other way the angle of the groove the pin sits in stops it coming out (you need to have a diff centre in front of you to see what I mean).
The second was the wear marks on the pin. Any ideas why it has wear the way it has ???? polished on opposite sides, but not all the way round.
All gears seen to 'round' off. Is this normal, or wear ????
The load on the pin is in one direction (thrust from the gears) so quite normal to see this sort of wear.
