Completed the replacement of my failed CDL cable. Now need to source a new gear lever bezel/cover for the auto gear box. The plastic legs, all four, snapped off in the process of removing it. Not really designed to last...
Cheers

Gave it a really good vacuum throughout and found the source of the stink. Bottle of water had leaked in rear and carpet damp. Now car has a tub of rice on the rear carpet and I'll see if that old tale of rice taking damp out of materials can work on this scale (I think I'll still end up with some damp rid later but at least this way I might see if it is possible for a Landie to grow a crop in the rear - then process it to make it's own fuel!).
Also switched the front window switches for the back switches in the centre console - nice upgrade that one.
not mine, but went and got this after the dunny door couldnt get up the hill
Wow I could have played along in this thread over the last couple of months that's for sure!
Today I stripped the rear qtr panel from Fluffy (rrc) and repaired the small fuel line connecting the return tank to the top of the filler.

Picked up a '84 Range Rover, towed it home on our car trailer behind the Defender.
Used the Defender's front mounted winch to pull it on, only just did the job as the wire rope was running rearwards under the Defender and was pulling under a right angle metal edge .
I will be looking at fitting a roller underneath the bumper now, to stop the rope rubbing.

Telltale exhaust leak from the front cylinder, serious whistle on revving the engine and serious lack of power on acceleration.
Removed the exhaust manifold. 2 front studs were broken. Removed and replaced all studs with new ones.
Tomorrow hopefully I can get the manifold machined flat and refitted.
Have a new gasket, O ring, copper washer, stud and nut kit.
Still waiting on the EGR blanking kit to arrive from UK. Also have new silicon hoses coming from UK. Maybe next week.

The Rangie did have solid nuts to hold the alloys on, I pulled them off, wire brushed them all on the bench wheel, wiped them clean with paint thinners and pressure pack sprayed with wheel silver.
Swapped them for the chrome capped nuts off 'Fred', so 'Fred' now has the solid nuts and the Rangie has the capped ones.![]()
.
Gave the expansion tank cap a bit of a clean to try and slow the leaking coolant down until I can order a new one![]()
Ripped out most of the POs hands-free phone kit, rebuilt one of my rocker switches and now just waiting for an opportunity to wire it up.
