Thanks Steve, will go and see if i can find it. Would also like to shave it more to make it the same clearance as the front rover diff.

Long tube, slightly aft of top and near the breather fitting from memory. It's been a while though. Only small dots used to mark it - not letter stamped.

If you just want to check if it's HD or standard pull the breather out and make a small hook or similar to measure tube thickness. Standard around 6mm and 130 around 8mm

My serial number is on the rear of the long axle tube, exactly halfway between top and bottom of the tube. The 21S starts about 5cm left of the breather. It needed a really good rub with a wet rag to start seeing the numbers.
A quick look/ring around has not resulted in success in finding a HD axle (24S/38S).
I have available to me a 39S (light duty) out of a 300Tdi defender, so it comes with all the discs etc. I would have my ARB locker transferred and all new bearings installed and set up. Also I would need to buy Hi-tough axles and drive members (my current OEM axles are showing signs of twisting).
I've read all the opinions on Rover diffs. I am considering putting a built up Rover Diff in, and either finding a suitable prop shaft or having one built.
Choices choices
Cheers
Andre
Slightly off topic question, but are the drum brake housings the same as a disc brake housing? Could all my disc brake housing stuff bolt straight to it?
Same AFAIK.
I'm currently running the housing from an early drum braked 130 (ex Africa) with the later stubs/discs/axles and flanges.
Only thing I'm not 100% sure about is whether there is some slight difference in the mounting flange for the caliper brackets. The very early disc models had a bolt on caliper bracket, but on the later ones it was integral to the axle flange.
I'm pretty sure the bolt on brackets were just a bracket bolted onto the same housings as were used for drums - but I'm running D1 calipers and custom brackets so can't confirm.

Housing width is my only concern, want to build a flat bottom sals, and can laminate the tubes at the same time. Have found a drum brake one thats all.![]()
Why stuff around putting lipstick on a pig, I'd just buy a 9'' housing from a drag shop, they can make anything you want regarding housing strength, shock mounts, suspension pick up points, track width and stub axle flange PCD with a hypoid centre with whatever ratio and you want for a couple of grand. Pat
Have thought this pat, but i already have a sals with locker and axles etc..custom tailshaft to suit it , so would be doing all this again. Lose money, spend more money.
All i need to do is find a piece of pipe/tube of approx 67mm and i can laminate my axle tubes. That may be the hard bit😕

Thats the problem, you spend a packet trying to get the result you want only to find you should have just binned it from the start. Pat
