Surprisingly no, a few drips was all, didn't prime afterwards either, she did need 4 starts though to get air out of the lines

So I guess I'm back to the lift pump not doing its job properly?

Yes, probably true Dave. I had actually forgot about it until the last service when I rotated the spare oil filters I carry and found it tucked away in the locker. Hope I never have to use it but it's always there in case I do

Not quite. The sedimenter top won't seal the filter, you need a new top, and the cheapest wat to get it is to buy the unit brian posted.

On the outside yes, but not the inside.
The top for the filter has an o-ring. Will try and dig out a picture. The fuel flow will bypass the filter if you use the sedimenter top.

Ok so I need to buy a complete cav setup with glass bowl then I reuse my lower cannister in conjunction with the top of the new unit and a longer screw to hold it together?

Yes, unless your top section has an o-ring groove on the centre post like the one in the picture (hard to see).
