07:50 today; Holden St Ashfield NSW. Got a brotherly light flash from a subtly trick 90, a beautiful Maroon BlackPack: Rego 90.DFR, a very cool plate. He kindly allowed me into the traffic stream.
If said owner is on here I'd like to say, thank you very much and could you please advise what those snazzy fob hinges that hold the windscreen frame on are, what they're made of and where you got them.

My pleasure mate, and I got those window blocks from Optimill-UK, made from billet aluminium. A little pricey but exceptional quality 👍🏼

I ordered some new wheels for SWMBOs CJ10 the other day and went into Bob Jane in Canberra to pick them up and have the second hand muddies fitted. After spending 10 minutes describing to the sales guy how it was a 2016 Defender and probably one of the last of them and walking around it a few times I finally went inside to pay for the rims. After loading the rims on the tray and tying them down one of the tyre fitters with a sub continent heritage came up and asked " are you leaving now?" When I said yes the response was "I am very sad, that's a very nice car"

On Friday and heading towards Kurrajong Heights on the Bells Line of Road a dirty new Defender came the other way, I flashed and waved. Maybe they waved too?

Jeep drivers are pinching the Defender wave. This is outrageous!
Just saw a Jeep ad on Ch. 9 during the French Open tennis in which an old bloke in a Wrangler lifts two fingers off the wheel to wave to another Wrangler driver. The ad finishes with a text about the 'Jeep wave' being a long-standing tradition.
How dare they! Is nothing sacred?
Maybe we should try to patent the 'Defender wave'.

Sorry to break the news but after SWMBO owning two Wranglers it is definitely a thing. No one waves to Grand Cherokees or any other flavour of jeep other than a Wrangler or CJ. I tell SWMBO that Wrangler drivers are the other side of the coin of Defender drivers. Imagine having a passion for vehicles that are noisy on the road, leak when it rains, mark their spot on driveways and sometimes fail to proceed.....[biggrin]

Well, since you put it like that tote we must mostly be bloody cracked in the head & Bonkers.

I guess that is what the book "They are a weird mob" (Nino Culotta. NDP) was all about & not the observations of an Eyetie Brickie(?) or Builder's Laborer about Land Rover Owners back in the '50s with it being a fillum in 1966.[bigrolf]

My curiosity has got the better of me.
Q. Your Col110 was the username of a bloke I used to swap mails with some years ago on a UK Forum & wondered if he may have been the same bloke.

My Col110 was an Aircraft Engineer, ex RAAF & lived in the western area of NSW. His moniker was ColS 110 though. Thought it could have been him, the world being such a small place.
Last heard of in the Emirates working for a ME Airline but that was some years ago.[B]

ummm it doesnt take much smarts to be an aircraft engineer.

Many of the a/c engineers in the defence forces are not even qualified tradesman , some were apprentices , most appys accelerate quite quickly through the rank selection process , but most are adult trade trainees who go to the RAAF School of Technical Training and do 12-18mths of "like this do that...until you get it right" type of training.

Two unusual "waves" today.

Pulled up at the lights at North Richmond alongside a stornoway grey 110 Puma. Window down I leant over and exchanged the appropriate courtesies. He then asked "is your aircon working?"....so I said "funny you should ask me that. Not well.... mine needs a re-gas?" His wasn't working either..light turned green and off we went!

Stopped at roadworks at Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens and one of the gardens staff was mowing the grounds nearby. I noticed him staring and smiling and then as the ride-on mower turned toward us I got a big wave...I guess that the mower wasn't his daily drive and a Defender is! Of course we waved back!

My W/E ride is a Rover (mower) (a Red One) & I get plenty of waves, usually a bit of verbal too, "Get back on the footpath yer ****ing mug."

Lots of waves (or maybe they are angry Gesticulations [bighmmm]) & usually from the next doors.

In true Rover fashion, I change down a cog in my 6 speed box & just zoooooooom away & leave them in a cloud of dust simply because I hadn't disengaged the Cutter Disc & being on Dirt.

He was on his second one,the first one,a P400,the wife smashed up and it was written off.
This time he bought the small diesel[biggrin]
He said he wanted something less powerfull.[bigrolf][biggrin]

As for waves, these days,i only get then from 76,79,and 200's[bigwhistle]

Unless of course i am in the S1,then i get all sorts of wierd looks and waves from all sorts of people in all sorts of LR's.[biggrin]

A couple of big ones in Dubbo yesterday, a red Td5 and a white (I think) 300Tdi.

Weirdly I keep getting a wave from a white L663 in Turramurra and also got one from a Pangea green one near Mt Tomah on Friday. Maybe the wave is starting to catch on with new Defender owners.

Then again, a new grey 90 parked next to me and the Puma 90 I was travelling with in Blinman a couple of weeks ago and didn’t even look at us.

The Landrover wave is dead as far as I'm concerned, I get more waves from Jeeps than other LandRovers when I'm driving my Lightweight , I'm the only series Landy in town , but theres a white 110 and a bronze 90 , neither wave so I just don't bother with them . On the other hand when I'm driving my '49 Dodge ute or my Power Wagon it seems I get a wave from every second vehicle .

I still get plenty when driving my D2 but typically from other D2, D1 and Defender drivers. Rarely ever from D3,4 RRS etc. Different market I think to a large extent and different views on it being a vehicle rather than a mark or of being part of a community. There are exceptions of course. Cheers

Not exactly a wave, but sort of made my day.

This morning I had to go into town to get a pink slip for my big trailer. It was not my day, as I found while hooking up the trailer for the trip in, the tyre on the back door of the 110 that had been fixed in town last week - was flat again. So I got in to town as early as feasible (leave home before 0700, not not in a good mood), and park the trailer (1330 appointment with the mechanic), and then drop the tyre off to be fixed (and, of course, they don't have a 27mm spanner to take it off). Then started shopping, as Aldi had opened by then. Second stop was Mitre 10 for chimney cleaner (they did not have any).

As I was locking the County after parking, and another customer stopped and said "How old is it? You don't see many looking this good; can I take a photo of it?"

Waves are nearly everywhere in Tassie, especially around the edges.

Seriously, when in the 110 I wave to all other LR, be they Ser, County, Def of any age.
I usually get a wave back. So I expect others here give them a wave too.

Bit different if I'm in another marque though, they would wonder why I'm waving.

As for receiving waves, I've even got a wave from a Disco and a Rangie.

There was one day, when traversing a rough bit of supposed gravel road, I got a wave from a solo dusty Toyo with agro tyres, going the other way. I think he was either glad to see another vehicle on that bit of "road", or, he was congratulating me for giving it a go. I think I had the advantage though as I was going downhill.

So the neighbor who is interested in buying the old one...the price is right but he just wants it to tow stuff for work. Not sure that is her destiny.

The S M E G impressed on the beaten and familiar tracks. Tracks that I first drove in the Disco and then the old Defender. Driven in low range, with raised suspension, appropriate off road modes, manual gear selection and no bashing of the skull on the B pillar. The low range first down hill crawl was glacially impressive!

So traditionalists if when you are driving your old Defender and you see a new Defender.....WAVE! They are worthy of the title.

Well, why not I say. Apart from mutual confusion as a result of one looking like the other it would be a long time between waves for the Grenadier otherwise. Anyway, it's all Land Rover's fault for not building it. As for the L663 Defender, the wave is both a Defender Wave and a Land Rover Wave.

I'm selling my "real Defender" at a greatly inflated expense to the highest waver!

Think i’ll start waving at Jimny’s, certainly plenty around and either older folk or young girls driving them.

Pulled up at the lights yesterday in our black puma 90 next to a black puma 110! The driver lowered the passenger window and we exchanged greetings. Lights changed and off we went!

I've missed a few lately. Didn't see them until it was too late. I've had a few enthusiastic waves from the new version lately though.

Obviously it wasn't my BiL or you'd still be waiting, well you would, he'd been off with the first glimmer as the RED changed. No Kid.

Just remembered, he doesn't drive a LR so there'd be no point.[biggrin]

Since Ive been daily driving my Series 3 lightweight 6 years now , thats every day , I ve seen ONE series LandRover & obviously exhanged waves . I always get waves from Jeeps & Jimnys , and most cars older than 30 years but nothing from any LandRover that does not have a split screen. Theres a bloke in town that daily drives a Td5 Defender , he dosen't even look, not a hint of recognition let alone a wave . It certainly is a lost cause.

I don't identify a RRS or any other model other than a (old) Defender as a Land Rover, fact is I cant't tell them apart from most other cars.

Probably , when I was riding bikes , the only bikes I didn't wave at were Harleys & now that you mention it, its probably because they never waved at me [bigwhistle]

It's funny how things change, GB. My area is popular with weekend riders, with most stopping at the local rubbity, for a palate cleansing beverage. Some are beautiful restos, but most are Harleys.

Now, most of these Harley riders would appear to be well-to-do, educated types, who seem to think it is necessary to dress like a 1%er i.e. facemask with Skull and Crossbones.:lol2:

It also appears that most of them belong to the MLC MCC......................................the 'Mid-life Crisis Motorcycle Club'.

It stands out like doggies' which riders have years of riding under their helmets.

I would love another motorcycle, but my dear wife, who has worked in Triage, ER and ICU, put a lid on that notion years ago. [bigsad]

Back on topic, perhaps the 'Defender Wave' has changed a bit, with a lot of current owners having a different mindset to days of yore?

For what it's worth, I got a return wave from a 'New' Defer yesterday and I was in my Nipponese 'tilly!

Well now. I got a flash of lights from an oncoming, red Defender at traffic lights at Enoggera today. I gave a friendly wave in response.
I'm assuming that it had nothing to do with the fact that there was a white 110 behind me. [bigwhistle]

I got a wave from a Ceswick green white roof 110 yesterday as we passed shoulder to shoulder in a narrow Balmain St in a thunder storm.
