After searching around the eastern states with little success we found one in WA and went over and drove her home a couple of weeks ago.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2014/09/835.jpg

First few days on the road were nerve racking, but finally settled and really enjoyed the road trip across the country. 4466km test drive

Thought we would have to do a fair amount of work on her to get NSW rego, but after going for a "pre-blue slip" inspection yesterday, I came out with a blue slip. So now all registered in NSW and ready for improvements and some more adventures.

Once you wear those out I would go back to something around the 10.5" no rub and believe it or not work better

Ooh, I have 33x10.5R15 BFG muddies and they rub on the radius arms on full lock - solution = get grinder & adjust radius arms a bit or straighten steering wheel a tad :)

Adjust your steering stops, don't compromise the bit that is often under tremendous compression along with lateral deflection all at once!

i run 33X12.5 X 15 at BFG and have no problems. the out side lined up nicely with the flare on the gard. so maybe look at the offset of the rims?

Haha - TeamFA - yes a mere 5 point turn - that happens instead of a U turn on most streets :)

Thanks. I am really happy with it. The black paint has some really nice flecks on it which look great in the sun.

Also I will have to post some photos of the interior as I splashed out a bit and got all black leather (which is now offered) and also got the front grille and inside centre consul sprayed in indus silver.

Essentially the same as the new silver pack but I didn't have to wait ages and also I preferred the roof the same colour and also wanted the lighter roof headlining.

This weekend I head down to my parent's farm so it will get a bit of off-roading plus a chance to get a photo next to Dad's old TDI 110and a TD5 tray.

One of my 90's, just doing a quick rebuild/refit of some of the ancillaries.
Replacing or rebuilding,
Brake master cylinder
Brake booster
Clutch master and slave cylinders
Vacuum pump
Fuel pump
Alternator (100amp discovery model)
Most of the engine hoses
Power steering pump hydraulic hoses
Pan hard rod bushes
Rear a frame bushes
Inlet/exhaust manifold gaskets (usual oil leak down the block)
Turbo to exhaust down pipe gasket (blown for while)
Turbo rebuild (water cooled turbo)[oil seals gone]
And a fair few other items to do too.

Problems with a few new Bearmach parts set me back a bit....
But getting there.

My first/last NEW 110 MY15. (Has the (now) standard DSC switch top left). It will be doing its first 'lap' mid-2015. Looking forward to those Landy waves. Happy days...

FYI: After asking the dealer if the fitted OEM tow pack required me to fit an accessory for my Tekonsha trailer brake controller (for attaching our Conqueror UEV-490), he wrote:

"You do not need any fancy ECU’s or ECM’s to wire your brake unit into your Defender.
You can pick-up the feed wires in the r/h/r ΒΌ panel area, above the tail-light and wire into the Teckonsha brake unit in the front of the vehicle. Very simple and basic.
We can fit it for you if you wish. We would charge approx. $150.00 + any wires, terminals etc.

As promised, here's a pic of our new Defender. As you can see, it's VERY white and VERY shiny - in fact, I think it could be a contender for shiniest Defender on AULRO.
Once we get it set up with some gear, we will be getting it dirty, but at the moment its very clean - even underneath where it got the full black spray treatment by the dealer.
As well as being shiny, it's also MUCH longer than the Discovery 1 was, particularly from the rear seat to the rear door - lots of space in there.
To say I'm tickled pink with it would be an understatement. Although its a 2009 model, it has only done 54,000 kms, so its like new.
The Long Ranger tank is pretty impressive - I'm still trying to work out how far it will travel on a tank, but so far we're up to 720 kms and the needle, which didn't move for 450 kms, is still reading half full, so I reckon more than a thousand kms is certainly on the cards. Excellent!
So, I'm a very happy chappy. And, the wife likes driving it - how good is that!

G'day maxthomas,

Thanks for the pics, looks like a great trip you had.

Was just wondering have you had any suspension upgrades on your current rig, from the images it seems to sit nice and high when loaded?

The only reason I ask is my 2013 defender is set up much the same as what yours appears to be but had much less space between the top of the tyre and guard as what yours does when carrying a fair load.

I'll probably add on a few bits and bobs as I work out what I need, but will try to keep it relatively "standard" and certainly non-bling! After all, it's my daily drive with a bit of off-roading to get where I want to go, not an all-out expedition monster.

Well done mate, now I can prove to my wife that the defender can be used as a wedding car. Last year we turned up at her cousins wedding in Melbourne with my then 1 month old defender and I had everyone snapping photos. The groom said "we should have used this as the grooms car".

You make/ design them yourself. I saw that slogan quite a few years ago and to prevent anyone stealing it I downloaded a Land Rover badge and added the current "Above and Beyond".

Very good company to deal with and the quality is outstanding. Lots of American nonsense on the website (flags and eagles and things), but just use the "create your own cover" tool.

Yeah Mate, 2inch lift with front and rear lockers. Only standard tyre height as i had 6 come with the car. Once i wear all 6 out i will get the 33's for under it.

Going over the dunes were nice and easy. What i didn't realise was the drop off on the other side of this one. I went up and over alright. Then i came to a sudden stop. The whole way along my belly was filled in with sand. Lots of people digging me out and then we dragged me backwards. Lucky as well that i have dual belly tanks. They stopped the sand from filling in all the gaps and making it harder to dig.

In that situation Max Tracks would have helped though not as an option for self recovery without a lot of hard work digging. The sand was very soft and kept shifting back in to fill the hole.

Yep. Limb risers or bush cables, stop tree branches from breaking your windscreen and help to guide the tree branches over your lights etc... But they also make very handy washing lines as well..lol..

Rarely seen in this country as the authorities take a very dim view of them, probably from a pedestrian safety perspective.

I live in the land of the NAS.. Owned a few of them, but too expensive to bring back to Australia so I don't keep them.. Just sold my 1997 conniston green NAS 90 for $72000 US.... Way better to sell here than bring home to OZ..

Shayne, nice Camel, this is mine.

When it comes time to bring them into Oz you will find it interesting, all the advice I recieved was quite odd, remove the brush cables, spacers and there is no way the roll cage will be certified... Blah blah blah...

They picked the tinting (done in Zambia so no surprises) to many lights on the front (removed one set) oil leak, and get an engineer to sign off on roll cage, all very easy. Even suggested the best one...
Never mentioned cables, spacers and everything else, in fact the engineer and inspector were very impressed with it all.

Insuring it has been interesting but got there...

I built the camel to take us around the world, and we travelled for a year and 40,000 ks in it... The remainder of the travelling is gonna be a bit too hard on the old girl.. She really needs a good going over with a frame off etc. and I don't want something serious to happen to her on the trip, or stolen etc either... So I bought the 130 to finish the trip in and will be sending the camels back home and they will be used for an expedition company that I was thinking about starting up once back there..

Yet to lay a finger on it, but immediate plans are:
Frontrunner Slimline II rack
Mulgo ExBox + UHF + bits & bobs
Snorkel + Nugget's sealed air kit and breather kit
APT steering guard

Winch bar, winch + lights to come if I can prove to myself I need them.

And obviously the most important plan is to find time ASAP to get it out of Sydney! (purely for the photo opps of course:p)

Hi Everyone, Since picking up our new 110 in late September, we have done 14,000k; had loads of fun and met a few AULRO guys along the way. HEAPs of waves too.

I have been meaning to post for ages but now we are living in a shed in North Tassie we have limited internet. So rather than talk to much, here is our beloved Vyvan. We have really got lucky with the grey, red and Zu wheel combo. And now with the Rijidij wheel carrier (thanks murray) and the tint; she is a conversation starter everywhere we go.

Cheers.

I chose that colour, because it's not metallic. (I love metallic colours, but are they are hard to match when repairing) Hence easier to respray it when needed.. (And I hate white.. Keswick Green was the only other option) And I'm sure that the colour will grow on me..

In real life (pictures don't do it justice) the Montalcino Red 90 looks magnificent.

Different light produces different colours so it doesn't always look the same.

It looks so great that when it came time for the handover, the dealership didn't want to give it up. It was given pride of place right in the centre of the showroom and attracted a lot of attention. We had most of the staff come outside to see it drive away.

Given that Montalcino Red is a new colour for the MY15 year if you stick with it you'll be one of the few in the country with one which is pretty cool.

Keswick is great too and I love our 110 Keswick but Montalcino Red is the ultimate 'look at me' colour.

My favourite colour is whichever one I happen to be driving. Although I like the Montelcino Red in a 90 not sure I would like it in a 110 and I like the Keswick in the 110 but prefer other colours on the 90's.

During a trip (Jan 1-4) to help with delivering flood relief after Malaysia's worst floods ever hit the northern and eastern states... Our convoy passed over this bridge going deeper into the jungle to reach isolated villages of the often neglected Orang Asli (aboriginal) peoples.

On the way back to base camp that day I was first to cross. The bridge had been half washed away. There is about a 5m drop into the river below the bridge.

I was guided expertly to a point where it wasn't safe to go further as the bridge kept crumbling. Attached the vehicle behind me winch cable to my rear recovery point. The hard packed earth surface of the bridge crumbled away beneath my front wheels just trying to reverse out...
