Tim it is a 3.9 V8 EFI. I will post some details of it in Members rides.

And yes Lambrover, Trevor has done a lot of the suspension/mechanical work. A mate and I knocked up the tray.

Hi there all

Well its a great time of the year in the Flinders Rangers - with the weather getting warmer and the dreaded "School Holidays"

Well after hearing before 9am most morning from the Kids "Im Boored" we decided it was time for some driving leasons (off raod leasons) - we headed down to the back of or property to go for a drive through the creek bed......

Well there were a few scrapes, bumps etc - but the kids had a ball and I couldnt resist and took a couple of pictures to share with you all.

Here is my 2003 L322 TD6 with 18" Coopers SSTs (scrape a little when parking but great off road). Won best L322 at Cooma in 2008. Its been to Blinman, Boggy Creek NT, Coopers Creek various beaches and the only time it missed a beat was when a injector went faulty at Kings Canyon and we got towed for 400km to Alice and took a months to fix and they freighted it home to Adelaide! Antenna is codan 3250 which I use for emergency HF and Amateur Radio

Yeah there not to bad they come with a full wiring kit and is just a plug n play install. Shane that is one of the best look Defenders I've seen - and I usually only like the green ones :)

What tyres and size are they?

Also, are they standard disco rims or are they modded? (I have a set and I'm about to paint them gloss black)

Our Puma with new front bumper and A bar, replaced the standard bumper. This bumper is from First Four in the UK http://www.firstfour.co.uk (http://www.firstfour.co.uk/) while the A bar is locally made here in WA.

Just needed a bar to fit up some lights, sand flag and later an aerial.

It was sad but we finaly updated our camper setout after about 5 years of great trips, including 1 year travelling around Australia. The kids were out growing the old setup and we wanted a bit more comfort. The Camper sleeps 6, has seats and a table and sets up in less than two minutes. The camper can be set back on the tray so that the spair tyre and outboard can fit behind the cab or the camper can be attached hard up against the cab, this means the tyre has to go on the rood as it is now too wide for the bonnet. We hope to have many many more years of travel out of the Defender now.

I will try and get some time to post a feature in the members ride section. The rims from memory were 16"x8" TX1 rims with a + 3 offset. They were the only alloy rim that I could find that was load rated to 1400kg. They were cheap to, about $175 each and they increasesd my track alot without spacers. If you are looking at buying them let me know and I will dig up the paperwork.

Trackdata Campers built the camper. You can call Malcolm on 0409 337 177.
We didn't intend on it being able to sleep 6, but what we discovered was the back canvas section that swings out with the door alows us to also sleep another two, heads in the canvas section and feet into the camper. ther is one bed above the cab and one along the side whch is on gas struts and can be pushed down to make a back rest for the seat along the side. We can also sleep two across ways with the table lower on it's gas strut and feet under the side bed. I will try and post some pics in the future, I have just had a knee recon and am unable to set it up at the moment. We have only just got it and I have no decent picture of the inside. We are of the SA, VIC and Tassie for 7-8 weeks on the 12th December. Say G'Day if you see the rig

This is our 3rd Defender. (7th Land Rover). Stripped to the ground and rebuilt – it took us 3 months including a full respray. It had 10,000kms on the clock when we started . We gave it a test run to NE Arnhem Land in July / August. Performed faultlessly.

My first car was a series 11A. Just traded my ten-year old series 1 disco in for a 09 Defender. Thought I'd see what the traction control could do two days after I brought it home (see photos). I took her up to Ararat to play in the mud but a bit scared of stuff flicking up into air intake.
Since these photos I've had a bullbar and snorkel on so can't wait to see it'll really do.

It is actually only a 2" lift, using Dobinsons coils. The front coils are designed for the Isuzu engine, and the rears are Defender up to 250kg constant load coils.

I used the Isuzu fronts as I didn't like the way most Deefers sit nose down when raised, like them sitting level. Are a bit firmer than the normal Defender coils, but with the Boss adjustable shocks, rides very nicely. The stiffer coils don't affect the flex either, flexes very nicely!

Will post some pics up here soon...

mate the truck looks tuff as nuts. I have the same size tyres and pulled the flare of and used some 10mm acrylic plastic and it was either 70 or 90 mm wide and I rivited that to the inside of the guard then refitted the original flare to the plastic, it dose need to be trimmed though, the other way to go is Les richmond automotive now have extended flares for defenders and I would go that way seen as your car is a flash new one, mine is a tough as 1985 county and rough enough is good enough but yours in a very nice looking car.

I have an izusu in my car, I need new taller springs do you remember how many pound/kg the springs are. would be good to see some flex shots :D

G'day,

Will get some shots up shortly, don't know what springs you got sorry mate, but if you give Shane a call at Suspension Stuff he should be able to let you know what you got.

Alternatively if you look on your invoice for the part number and give Dobinsons in Rockhampton a call, ask for Ray in sales and he will be able to give you all the specs.

Cheers mate.

Duke

Thanx Duke,

Only getting ipod friendly stereo and rubber mats from dealer!

But,

When I pick it up, I'm driving straight to my mate at tyre power and on go the muddies, then when I can organise a time with ARB, I have the following ordered:
Tow Bar, Bull Bar, OME H/D Suspension, Ipf Spotties, Roof Rack, Air Compressor, 120L Long Range Tank, Duel Batt, Rock Sliders, 9500lb Winch and a Snorkel.
Should be well and truly set up for the trip up North in August.
Also I will get tinted windows before heading off.

I'm really excited now, can't stop thinking about it, ha ha....I think it's called Deefer delirium!!!!

P.s, I will update the pics when she progresses with the accessories!

KarlB

povman
20th April 2010, 08:12 PM
Not sure if they void the warranty when they are the same size as the original tyres that were removed? Or is there something I'm missing?
I replaced the original 265/75/16's with 265/75/16's!

Please let me know if there would be a problem with this.

Thanks,

Povman.

I Love My Landy!

Good looking Defender povman!

Are you sure the Defender didn't come standard with 235/85/R16 tyres? These tyres are the same height as the 265/75/R16 tyres, but narrower.

Sleepy
20th April 2010, 08:34 PM
Very nice povman! - are you more "pov" now you bought a new puma?

Yup, 235/85 16's are standard.

KarlB
20th April 2010, 09:03 PM
The other implication, other than the warranty, from changing the tyres from 235/85s to 265/75s is insurance, both vehicle (ie comprehensive) and third party (ie included in registration). There may be a need to get an engineers certificate to verify that the change does not compromise the safety of the vehicle. Certainly the comprehensive insurer needs to know and the policy accordingly endorsed.

There has been a recent thread on the forum about this issue as it relates to changes in NSW (see http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/102832-nsw-pink-slip-changes.html).

I am not trying to white-ant here. More concerned that people (including Povman) are aware that an apparently innocuous and harmless change to your vehicle can have significant and unforeseen implications.

Cheers
KarlB

povman
21st April 2010, 06:28 PM
Yeah, good point KarlB,
When purchasing the tyres, I questioned the sizing and was shown (by diagram) that there is a minimum and maximum size tyre to fit all wheel rims. The 265/75/16 was the maximum tyre allowable for the defender standard 16 inch rim..

Not sure though, if as you say, that it may affect insurance and warranty etc.

And yes Sleepy, I am more Pov now I have the Deefer......All worth it though!!

Povman.

povman, approx what price are ARB slugging you for that list of mods? Are they fitting items also?

povman
24th April 2010, 07:00 AM
G'day zem, Thats actually standard suspension, haven't touched it yet! When arb fit ome suspension, they claim that i'll probably get another 10 to 20ml out of it purely because i'm going the heavy duty set up...After all the mods are fitted, including arb fridge, dual batt etc, she'll be pretty weighty i'm tipping, so it may not rise at all!
All up with everything that I've ordered with arb and getting them to fit the whole lot in one hit, minus tow bar,(already fitted) I won't get much change out of $10g!
Big bickies I know, but hoping to have this puppy for many years to come and trying to do it right the 1st time.
Hope this helps mate..

Povman.

The 265/75/16 was the maximum tyre allowable for the defender standard 16 inch rim..

You can actually put the 285/70 R16 on, only need to adjust the steering stops to stop the tyres from rubbing against the radius arm at full lock.

Also put on 265's this weekend. R8600 later

2nd was the chequer plate saga...Didn't know it was gonna be that hard to do the bolts up under the wing top!!!! job done though!
3rd, started building the drawer system...Work in progress. Will keep the pics coming...

Cheers,

Povman.

pc3, the covers are just sheepskin seat covers that make the seats more bearable, took them off the old rig, stuck them on here until the new seats arrive in July!! Can't wait...I bought them from Autobarn I think, couple a years back but I don't recommend them for a deefer, very sloppy on the seat! Oh yeah, shes a 2010 my 110 wagon.. Hope this helps.

Your spot on Pete, got all the fittings and tube from bunnings and getting the drawer slides from internet.

Good one Pov

Think someone else on here noted that the fittings should be rivetted , screwed or glued in place.

Will keep that system in mind when doing the Simpson hopefully in Sept this year:)

Hi Naks!

That the new Mantec Snorkel for the Puma? I've been looking at that just to be a bit different. Very tidy vehicle and nice toys!

Did Land Rover have anything to say about the auxilary tank (OL I presume) and your waranty?

My 90's going for a bit of toy fitment on the 10th June when I'm back in civilisation and the choices are still a long way from settled!

Cheers,

Lourens

OL?

the tank was fitted by an LR-approved fitment centre. In fact, while we were waiting for the funds to come through, the dealer sent the Puma to get the bullbal & tank fitted next door :)

Opposite Lock - They seem to be aftermarket supplier with the most assessories aimed at Land Rover. They sell products imported from South Africa by a company called Dolium. That auxilary tank of yours appears to be their product and if they are LR approved it is very good news indeed. In fact zooming in on the Bullbar, it looks like theirs as well. Nice kit none the less!:D Any chance of spotting the company name if you pass them again, or they might even have a sticker on the tank itself?

Cheers!

Erm, not AFAIK. The tank & bullbar are Frontrunner products: http://www.frontrunner.co.za (http://www.frontrunner.co.za/)

Ooops, only saw your location after I posted. It will definitely be the same aux tank, but I'm not sure LR Australia will be as agreeable.

Bought my first 90 from Forsdicks in Bellville...

Know and trust Frontrunner products.
