Took off this week for our trip to Cairns from Melbourne. Hit a snag at Cunnamulla with the flooding, so we headed west navigating around them as best we could. Ended up passing through Euromanga on the way to Longreach. Some rough roads out there.

About a k out of Clermont the intercooler hose went. Some steel pipe in the hose, clamped down, worked a treat and got us through to Townsville. Will get a new hose from LR on Monday. 3500 k's so far this week, a fair bit longer than it should have been.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200229/4615abb081c8fd4158b9f9d89bee19b0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200229/269cda3b804764408b69ac306554ad10.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200229/509e94595a573e0eb6823867525d5cac.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200229/4a8fd57695ec12908d2e59983156bb87.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200229/fb199d9ab8f82174fb6165d3b2fc519a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200229/ee976f347470e741313e906e2e5acddb.jpg

Here's my 2011 Deefer, post-timing chain breakage (driving in suburbia at 60km/h). This is back in February, and later this week I can finally pick it up. New engine (well, new reconditioned engine at least). Have asked them to fit the Brown-David long range tank as well (given it's sat in my garage for a year it's pretty clear I wasn't going to do it myself). Can't wait to get out on the road again - thinking of Cameron's Corner in April (after a few test drives first of course). All the rain out that way should make for some pleasant scenery. As for the money gone into an engine replacement - I try hard not to think of all the mods, etc I could have had for the cash involved - argh!

Do you mean on the 90 pictured on the flatbed truck above? If so, the timing chain went at 147,000 kms. Not happy Jan. It certainly looks like I was (very) unlucky. Hurt the hip pocket, but I've had it back for a couple of weeks now and am almost ready to forgive and forget! Quieter than the previous incarnation, and the clutch is a dream (while it was apart I upgraded - ClutchFix out of the UK). Keeping the old engine to see if it can be reconditioned - a spare.

Keeping the old engine to see if it can be reconditioned - a spare.

At the risk of sounding old - they don't make them like they used to! I had a timing chain go many years ago on a 2.25L Diesel and the only parts required were a chain, chain tensioner, a few push-rods and gaskets. With very little idea as to what I was doing (apart from what was in the Haynes manual) and supported by youthful optimism / ignorance, I think I finished it in a weekend.

I hear you. Even inept people like could replace a clutch on a series III, and other bits and pieces. But I look under the bonnet of a Puma and shudder 'what the hell do I do if this thing breaks down in the middle of nowhere'. Suspect I wouldn't have the head off on the side of the road like my mother did many moons ago (she's a fitter, so distinct advantage! and no, her landy, not mine).

Don’t have social media anymore and just found this forum.
Probably won’t use it much either haha, but thought i’d share a photo of my baby. Have taken her a bunch of places thus far, however due to the current Covid-19 situation, haven’t been anywhere.
Told myself it’s the best time to finally get the Alu-Cab Icarus roof conversion done.
So off she goes to have some minor surgery done, and come back a whole lot more awesome than she already is.

Never skips a beat ❤️
Enjoy.

Why don't you start a Members Rides thread and document your journey?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be interested in following your Alu Cab experiences.

Nice looking unit Landyv8.
I had the pleasure of working alongside some of your fellow countrymen that were over here as a "strike team" fighting fires here on the mid north coast of NSW. Hard workers with a good sense of humour. They were much appreciated and respected.
Are they Disco rims painted black ?
I'm also curious as to what size tyres you are running.

PS. Let us know if you want to swap prime ministers.[emoji3]

Hey mate, yes typical Aussie/Kiwi attitude, don't seek attention or hero worship like some other nations, just roll up the sleeves, get stuck in and get the job done. Always been the ANZAC spirit and it is reciprocal.

I believe the rims were an aftermarket accessory for the Range Rover Classic back in the day, they came in either powder coated silver or polished/chrome. I use to see them advertised in old Land Rover magazines in the 90's
Trying to find center caps to fit them was a real pain. I ended up getting VW Amarok center caps, sanding off the emblem, melting the securing tabs outwards to make them fit, they were the only items slightly close.
I then sent the rims away for sand blasting and powder coating in satin black.

Tyre size is 236/85/r16. Goes well on these. There is a road noise as expected from a MT but its not that bad.

Nice lighting. Mine is looking like a revamp needed.

I'm all old school and like the patina of aged and work worn galvanising, Is the rest of the trimming all left as zinc? Stay zinc is my vote.

If the grill & light surrounds were silver then you could leave the bumper galvanised, but in this case I think the bumper needs to be black to match the grille & headlight surrounds.
