Use nanocom to record "inputs fuelling" as to catch the symptom in the live data log.

What is this hole in the water pump housing and why would it be leaking?

pretty much all waterpumps have a 'weep hole', and many waterpumps are external, hence will be on the pump housingat the front, underside. because the TD5 waterpump is an internal type, that is there isn't an external weep hole, so it has to come out of somewhere ... like that teeny hole.

i.e. your waterpump shaft seal is leaking.

Too many strange emojis to clearly read the k's, but is that 141 or 41K klms ago?

anyhow, both seem a bit short for a good quality pump.
And just a note about that too, make sure you don't rotate the pump at all before fitting.
The theory is that when dry, the seal can prematurely wear out if the shaft is spun(ie. before any coolant has had a chance to touch the seal).

I have yet to see evidence to definitively prove it, it kind'a makes sense, and zero advantage in doing it.
And, personally(way back in the day) I've had pumps fail too quickly from the weep hole, and I think due to myself 'checking' the rotation quality of the pump. So I make a stringent policy of never rotate a water pump when out of the box.

What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

    Thanks AK, Parts ordered….
I think I will follow their suggestion of moving the power steering pump, and air con then removing the pump housing bracket and replacing the pump on the bench…… will make the ‘no rotation’ policy easier to implement.
Seems easier than moving the oil filter etc….

Pump is nearly three years old and fifteen thousand

Glad I found it now and not almost at Port Augusta on day one of a ten day trip with three kids and a caravan….

That's considered the better way to do it too, so don't forget to order a new housing to block o-ring too. The o-ring between housing a block is known to fail too, so a more positive way to change pump before a trip.
That's the one you don't want leaking other side of Port Augusta!!

Not so sure, name brand I guess ... I think it's more likely to be better.

Back in the day when Bearmach was a parts brand, it just so happened that the one we fitted into the D2 was Bearmach. It was definitely 'different' to what was in the TD5 when bought.
I recall having a hell of a time trying to get the leaking one out between housing and oil filter housing, seemed like no matter which way it was turned, the damned thing wouldn't come out.
But finally found the final micron required to get it out between the housings. Then trying to get it back in, orienting it so many ways this way and that, and couldn't find a way too, so just tried to fit the new Beamach pump in and hope for the best, and it goes straight in, no worries. Totally confused now, coz the old one was such a tight fit, but no matter which way we tried to get the Bearmach one, was easy peasy. I'm just too curious for such a massive anomaly, and had to compare the two. Turned out that the Bearmach one was 2mm shorter from front to back than the old one(original or not, no idea) .. but anyhow that 2mm shorter overall length made all the difference. Of course then worried about the difference becoming an issue for longevity .. but ~100K klms later so far no problems.

Pulled apart fuel pressure regulator after work to replace it, only to find we had crushed an o ring when the head gasket was replaced in December.

After it was back together hooked up to the nano for sensor checks to see if they were all fully operational (they are)

And now typing this in the car wash :3
