You may be able to repair this with liberal applications of Sikaflex.

Not worth the risk, new ones are available and Chook has kindly offered to pick it up for me. A good excuse to catch up with a mate.

Some new Allisport piping because why not.

Tossing up if I do a intercooler next or not.

Annoyingly the Allisport one works out about $1075 AUD shipped atm which means I'll get stung for import duties.

Any noticed gains I would write off as placebo.
Was mainly just to replace the old ones which had seen far better days.

Finally a fix for a long standing battery problem. I hope.

My Disco 2 batteries only lasted about 12 months even 3 year guarantee versions. Go to start car and battery absolutely dead. Alternator always tested ok at 13.8 volts. Eventually got a special battery for earth moving equipment. Lasted 6 months dead. Interestingly the motor normally always starts first kick. Back to auto electrician and he tested and tested. Put in another new battery while he was going to boost charge the old one. The alternator test 12.8 volts at the battery not right but normally 13.8 volts at the alternator. Just asked me to start car again and he notices sparks down on the engine block. Simple fault, dirty earth connection. Now the alternator was pumping out 13.8 volts at the battery. Hopefully problem solved. He said he only ever got about one or two engine earth faults per year. He also said the worst thing manufacturers do is use flat washers. They should us star washers that bite in. On my other old cars they come from the factory with star washers on every electrical bolt connection.

I wouldn't. I noted difference between the OE and bigger intercoolers prior to the ECU upgrade and still notice the difference in engine performance on hot/cold days.

Personally I would recommend an intercooler upgrade before an ECU upgrade. Mind you, ECU upgrades are a lot better now than what they were when mine was done over 20 years ago.

High current earth faults are common in some environments, and also after major work is done, when the cable isn't refitted as well as it might. Salt is a major cause, corroding the contact point and sometimes the cable itself, or especially the strap type.

How's Boonah? Spent some time there, particularly Dugandan. Love the Scenic Rim, and often think of moving there somewhere.
