Good eye for detail there Billy. Same trip same "rock garden" did the job of "modifing" both my bumper and and all the side steps.

Removing the Foldies was my solution to that problem. Thanks for the offer of a straight bar - but actually I would tend towards just banging up the other side to make it match "rock mod" on the passenger side. :D

Mr Lamborghini loved Ferraris as well as other marks. how ever his clutch went bang on his GT250. on pulling it apart he found that it was the same clutch he manufactured for his 22hp tractor.

Mr ferrraris, told him to nick off.

no again manufactured mith. a bit like toyota built the snowy river dams.

or this bollocks from wiki "Mk II GT40 provided Ford with the first overall Le Mans victory for an American manufacturer" calling the GT40 and american manufactured car is a joke. pommy / kiwi would be more correct.

the first GT40 was monoque aluminium. the giveawy in wiki is "The first chassis built by Abbey Panels of Coventry was delivered on March 16, 1963.

ABBEY panels, it was built by Mclaren and Hume

the mono chassis and the colotti tranz worked quite well. but there were major disagreements between the imported american directors Lunn and Wyer. in short the Americans wanted bigger better and full monoque while the Expats were hunting lighter.
there was also the arguments over development time, the expats were not keen on having there first outing at Nuremberg. this highlights the lack of racing ecsperiance of the Americans. there was also the requirement for a spear wheel and some luggage space which the expats just exnored.

after there first outing. the expats just walked from the GT40
it was Broadley of Lola who introduced the expats to the ford directors and had provided much advice, but this was exnored as well

then the american turned back to Broadly who built new cars for ford but was not involved in the development, though the Americans did or had to accept the new chassis built by Lola. the ford development program was a mess, so Shelby was brought in to sort it out with Lunn and Wyer being send back to the US.

there is a recorded interview with hume made in the 80s. Hume was very dismissive of Lunn, stating his involvement with a concept midengened car in the states, his non-existent racing experience, domineering personality and complete control of fords money was that he delayed development of the GT40s by at-least 18 months

Carol Shelby was contracted by ford, not because of his car building skill that he is known for, but because he was the only american who has raced euro cars in Europe with some success, this included wining Lemans in 59??

Shelby was very reliant on Mclaren and Broadly. he was able to smooth out the ruffled feathers created by Lunn, just because he was a nice guy and had existing relationships. it is argued that his only contribution was the introduction of the 7ltr, because it was reliable and spending fords money. there is an artical i read many years ago. that to get at more fords money he made a statement to Mr Ford 11. if you want to beet ferarri you need to spend the same money as ferarri had spent --- over the last 30 years. in short he got the money, wind-tunnel testing was a big advantage.

Shelby was no saint. with plenty of fords cash there are rumours that a lot of this cash went into his AC project which he was more interested in running than the GT40 program

nb the first car was crushed

Got across the Nullabor for new start in Vic. Chatted and showed a few people around the Defender. A nice gent of the 9RAR and the lady in the CFES who drives the light tender in Coonalpyn SA. Upset a Disco driver in Victoria by over taking them, obviously hit a nerve or bruised the ego and proceeded to do the most dangerous overtaking manoeuvre I've seen in years. They almost became a head on statistic.
If you want that piece of road that bad mate, you can have it. I only overtook because you were holding up traffic.

Otherwise a great trip, chatted with a few riders heading back to Perth from the Black Dog ride.

If you hit one, do you get Elephantiasis?

Don't know about that. But if you go into the jungle there are a few "rules" that it's wise to learn well:
- if you see wild elephants up the trail, slam it into reverse and give 'er the berries. You can't hesitate. Hope like hell the bloke behind you did the same. If blocked or stuck - abandon the vehicle and run like the wind! Come back later to collect what's left of your vehicle.

- ground dwelling bees. Small they are, but they are vicious stinging fire from hell and they WILL NOT give up chasing you. If you disturb them on foot you must run like the wind directly at and through the thickest scrub you can find. If in a vehicle speed winding-up of windows is an art to perfect. (Note to self - Defender electric windows in front are too slow!)

- stinging insects from bees to large wasps love salty liquids. Sweat! In humid jungle heat is ever present and attracts said insects. As does urine so lazy arse blokes who don't go a respectable distance from camp to pee need electrocuting.

- that cute little harmless looking green snake in the tree, that looks a lot like the harmless green tree-snakes of oz - isn't. They kill more humans in the jungle than Cobras

They are a 285/75 St/Maxx on 16x8 Modulars with a -25mm offset, I did have them on +10mm Mach5 alloys but there was a lack of steering lock and they rubbed on the rear spring hangers on articulation..
My thoughts so far are if anything it seems to handle better on the wider offset, might just be in my head though.. And of course I now need flares!!

They melt quicker at freeway speeds and if you have weight in the back or are towing a trailer. I had 4 replaced on warranty. I just thought it might be a little hard to get the LE version.

Two types: Standard white rims or heavy duty wolf rims.

Looks like Rover Parts have HD wolf rims for $229 (Bearmach Copies) or $315 (Genuine). Genuine price looks similar to youre quote.

Been looking through this for a while but never bothered to post pics up of my 110. Iv decided to, fairly stock other than tint bullbar home made sliders and wheels and tires.

That looks great to me. The matching tint bar is unusual but effective. I like it. High sliders look the business as well. Watch out you might be swamped with requests.

They melt quicker at freeway speeds and if you have weight in the back or are towing a trailer. I had 4 replaced on warranty. I just thought it might be a little hard to get the LE version.

Well it turns out that you are right, 800kms of mostly highway driving 110kph for the most part & the mudflap is showing signs of distress - the 35+C oat's probably not helping. Have mentioned it to the dealer, along with a strange problem that in country areas radio reception is terrible (non existent) unless I pull the power plug for the dash cam from the cigarette lighter hole!

Me too...any idea where to buy these from? They are ridiculously expensive through a Land Rover dealer - just got a quote from them - $1500 for 5 PLUS you need to get them painted which they said would be an additional $1000 approx! Highway robbery!

I'm looking to get standard steel white wheels - a set of 5. Thanks

Check on ebay there is a set of white wheels and tyres on there now

Have set up some pics in Members Galleries for you to have a look at. Started with the 1974 Series 111 with the Big Red motor, bought from SA & delivered to Broken Hill, but after eventful trip back to Melbs realised it would not go through Vic Reg without serious work, so drove it to Tassie (overnight ferry) and traded it on the 1984 Wildebeest in July 2013.

Two boys 16 and 13 are learning to drive in it, and will keep it for their first car.

Have just updated to MY 2015 number Landy 7. Same same, but better, very happy chappie.

Had me scratching my head too...
NB is Nominal Bore- ie the pipe is specified by the size of the hole, not the outside diameter.

Yes, multi use, I have also tied horses, goat, and numerous cattle that I have had to run and knock over with said bar then tie them very short to the bar and reverse tow them to the yard!:D But a suggestion with tieing your dog up, always tie them to the drivers side. That way you can not forget and drive away with fatal results! :( And it has happened quite a few times.

The "other side" was even tougher than a LR and barely sustained a scratch.

Not going to fix it, in fact would like the driver's side bent to match the passenger side. (Increased ground clearance, stylishly "upswept")

Once you drive around for a few weeks and get a bit of dust on that canvas, it will look right at home :)

Ok, well finally got round to putting up a few pics of our family camping trip just before Christmas.
Well I say family, but unfortunately my wife had to work, as it's her company's busiest period of the year.

So off I headed with the two kids, to the Wellington River, just past Licola for a couple of nights.

Before heading down Billy Goat Bluff and into Bairnsdale, to our Mum's house, just in time for my son's birthday on Christmas Eve. My wife drove down Christmas morning.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/01/798.jpg

The trip was fantastic, not one 4wd was spotted in the 4 day's up in the High Country. Never had that happen before. In fact the only people we saw, were two walkers up on top of Mt Wellington.

Nice Defender you have.

Is that a winch or non winch bar?
Do you think It's more heavy duty then the normal non winch factory one? i.e, could it take a roo strike and survive like the ARB one?

I have been looking at that brand for a while and like the look of it but in pictures they use online it looks like it's made of thinner metal then the standard one.

Montalcino Red looks great by the way. Not quite as great as Indus Silver of course, but great all the same. 😎

Imagine if this was your Defender. Ramp over not so good but lots of space inside.

I got 4 kids, that would be an awesome tourer :)
