Where do these guys (Mantec) get orange Defenders from? Special no doubt.

Always wanted mine to be orange!

Mantec made them for the Camel Trophy (in steel) and for the G4 Challenge (in plastic and steel) as per the link.

Sam,

Those are G4 vehicles and the colour is Tangiers Orange... It was a limited edition optional colour back in the day, but I doubt its now an option (even on special order).

Two links below - The first one is the actual event site which has never been taken down and the second is the Wiki Page. WARNING: Those using mobile devices, careful of the first link as its VERY data hungry!

Now - here's another question.... where's the best place to store a spare wheel in a 110 crewcab in order to get the most volume oout of the tub? Are wheel hangers available that any could recommend? Maybe I could put the wheel up on the roof carryall basket?

I'm gettiing a tow ball soon and because I transport up to three mountain bikes around I was thinking of getting a tow bar fitting Thule bike carrier - the kind the bikes sit on a platform, with integrated taillights etc.

great pics..my dogs love the back as well.my spare is under a shelf the dogs sit on..

Is your hydraulic winch driver from a pump on the tcase or your power steering pump or extra hydraulic pump on the engine

The winch isa uk redwinch and its driven off of a pump from the tcase it was a real job to install i remade the hydrualic tank to fit under drivers seat and the hoses it came with were rubbish so i got pertec knock some better ones up and the snorkel is 3.5 inch then reduced to 3in once in the guard needs powder coating the bend is a rubber hose didnt thinks solid unit would allow for enough flex and all home made total cost maybe $100

I tried to make it with brush rails to slideit off trees and whateverelse you could get hung up on it has no tail gate so a mostly water tight check out youtube " roll over on spanish steps" the best is it runs the same hubs as the landy complete bearing the lot i have machined a stub axle up so i could bolt the landy hub straight on same as the car

Mate that looks like an absolute cracker. It looks similar to the AT trailers in the States. No doubt you have done already, but if not check out expedition portal. Did you scratch build the tub or is it from something else. What size is the tub length and between the wheel arches.

Ouch.....I just watched the video :( , lucky you built it tough. The short rear departure comes into its own there.

You didn't do a build thread anywhere by chance?

The tub is the first pic i got it from ebay and was pretty much as it looks in the pic. I made a new draw bar which was originally short but a pain to reveres so i lengthened it and moved the axel a couple hundred to the rear of tub off center the tub measures 1500 x 1500 which is a touch short than i would have liked. I got MW to press up the alloy top and the front box then i fitted them we dont have a press at work otherwise i would have made one from scratch. I,m thinking of selling this one as we have done our trip and have no room to keep it being in a sydney 2 bedder things are tight for room. Any ideas what anyone things i could get for it.

Some of the trailers I have seen for sale have had ridiculous prices on them. I guess all you can do is work out what it owes you and test the market.

I was thinking as is about the six to seven mark with water tank the spare alloy two steel jerry cans and the tent of course. If i was to finish it off with a nice coat of paint and some tub sealer maybe more. Thanks for taking a look.

Cheers i dont have many pics i have added a spare wheel on a little winch underneath and a stone guard we just covered the flinders ranges up the strzelecki track across walkers crossing to the birdsvillie track then the simpson including hay river handled it all with ease it weights 350kgs with tent add spare wheel 50l water tank and whatever else you take .

Hey Matt how are things going? When are you back? I dropped into the yard a couple of months ago to give the beast a good clean and Dave said you had gone off for 6 months. Hope its all going well, looking great and a nice trailer you built.

All major vehicle distributors have negotiated fix currency arrangements with the parent company for any calender model 12 month period, so periodic currency fluctuations in either direction make no difference. That is why usually vehicle prices go up when the new model year starts.

If they didn't then vehicle prices could end up going up or down with each shipment to arrive in the country as the currency fluctuates.

If a salesman tells you otherwise they are speaking big BS. ...:p

I am seeing ALOT of new defenders on the road here in Melbourne. Perhaps there is a surge in demand? I'd bet if demand was outstripping supply Land rover would not even boost production numbers - It's due for the axe not a comeback!

I think defenders here in Auz might be approaching mainstream cool (whatever that means). I went for dinner in St Kilda the other night and saw two brand new defenders in the car park, one SVX styled 90 owned by a young trendy type loading it up with his fashionably turned out friends.

Perhaps the affluent inner city streets would be awash with 90's if Land Rover could pump em out quicker.

I drive by about 10 Defenders a day on my short drive to work. But when i drove from Sydney to Bourke to Wilcannia back via Cobar a few weeks ago (2200kms) i only saw one other Defender ?! A nicely kitted out 130 in Mudgee.

It can't be all bad though, all these nice shiny Defenders getting around the city, they will be prime candidates for future projects when they hit the second / third / fourth hand market ;)

I'm not complaining - if they are to be phased in 2015, the more new ones on the road the better. In the end I'll have em for spare parts. Go forth and buy new, so I don't have to. ;)

Was that on the wekend of the 13th-14th July? I was launching off the beach with a mate's boat, and saw a nicely setup Defender at Seal Rocks!

My new Defender would have been there, however it was being trucked back to Tamworth due to hole in the turbo-intercooler hose:mad:

This was taken on 20th July.

At one point a bloke came running up to me asking if mine was the Defender he saw on 4WD Action TV (or similar sounding show) but alas it wasn't me.

Sorry to hear about the hose hole. I put the Allisport intercooler in mine and got the silicone hoses as I was concerned about the OEM ones.

Yeah if i had a Jeep and a Defender i'd definitely tow the Defender to the tracks with the Jeep, why would you want to waste road mileage on a superior off road vehicle? :p

Kudos to the owners for a very well turned out and kitted up custom 130 campervan conversion.

The owner is an aluminium fabricator by trade, so it was all to a very high standard.

I can't help but think that the wider bodywork would suit a Perentie 6x6 admirably, which would carry the load a lot better than a 130 chassis might.

I get to see that every day, i work right across the road from them, impressive bit of kit. They work on a fair few Landies so if you need some custom aluminium roof racks, barwork or what-have these would be the guys to see... Aluminium Engineering, Brookvale.

They had another one they did with a 2.8 TGV that was for sale for ages... i haven't seen it for awhile so they might have sold it.

Alu Cab (sticker above the cab) is also a Cape Town, South Africa based business and the majoroty of the remaining gear is Front Runner, so I think its pretty certain that the pic is from there.

I see it has bars up either side of the front screen, and along the roof line on the sides. Perhaps they are hangers for riot screens. That thing hanging off the back door may act as a window screen perhaps, and the others just aren't fitted. I'm only guessing though.

G'day Chops,
On the Headbook/Facebook/whateveritscalled page that I posted there is 39 odd photos of the 110.
One of the thing that I'm interested in, is the custom moulded dash top that is shown in some of the interior photos.
It would be good for holding a lot of my assorted crap that seems to build up in the landy.

We've covered 1000 miles in just over a week (incl some gentle low range work)

Fitted Exbox to house additional fuse box, dual battery controller, accessory plugs and to provide mounting location for UHF and brake controller. Hard wired spotties into LR push switch in dash for neatness. Easiest vehicle I've ever wired-up. Didn't see the need to shift factory-fitted electronics into Exbox. Very happy with the altered ergonomics with exbox.

65323
Decided to use AGM 100ah aux battery on long lead for maximum versatility for placement and accessibility - as opposed to squeezing another battery under passenger seat (besides, would need to find a new home for the jack etc). The second battery can be easily shifted/removed - eg, use with electric outboard.

My first mod to the car was to add in the Drawers which i got custom made by Full Boar Fourbie Drawers out in Korumburra.

The plan for the car is to be a touring wagon with some fun off road capabilities as i am a scout leader and take kids out bush a lot.

My suggestion for setup for the Gunbarrell is to leave it standard and not listen to the you-have-to-have-crew eg:"you must have this, and this and especially this...."

Just a couple of photos before the colour coded bullbar sitting in the garage is installed. 'Ruby' is in the dealers getting some warranty work until next week so the bullbar will have to wait.

Cheers Glenn

Looking great Glenn. I parked next to you at the Caribbean gardens event a month back and your car is set up great. Good to see some photos of it out getting out and about. Im sure you 3 are having a ball with it.

Thanks Peter. Saw the photos of your truck a couple pages back. Hope it is treating you well. Kiera says G'day. It was lovely to meet you. Would be good to catch up before we leave end of November.
