Just catching up here!!:D Sleeps don't push yourself to make it by Tues, there is a LOT of driving between Narang and here. Grafton is an hour the other side of Coff's plus the 5 hour drive from Coff's. If you don't make it by Tues, don't worry about it!!:) If you look like making it, if you want you can ring me say, an hour out from Newcastle, say, around Buladelah and I can meet you and guide you in rather than you trying to find your way in (only a suggestion)!!!:)

And a fine suggestion too. Can you PM me your phone number please Aus. I may take you up on the offer.
I am not going to push although I love driving and despite my name, have been quite comfortable with long stint in a Land Rover. Just hope this one doesnt give me any grief.

You are connected. I'll give you a ring anyway. Top is good.
I drove the series 3 from Coffs with no fuel gauge. Problem was the speedo and oddometer didn't work either  :eek2:. Had to work out my speed by averaging mile-markers :lol2:. I new I wouldnt get caught speeding :lol2:
Will have to buy a Jerry Can - found a camping store and TJM in Nerang - should be able to get one there.
Think I'll buy a mattress and sleep in the back.

(And if I get booted off again after pressing send I will scream!)

I'm Aus the Peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With my extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um.
Wherever I drive through rain and snow,
Then Banjo always lets me know:
There's Aus the Peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With his extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um.
The day that I was born, oh boy, my father nearly died.
He couldn't get my nappies on, no matter how he tried,
'Cause I was born with an extra leg, and since that day begun,
I had to learn to stand on my own three feet,
Believe me that's no fun.

I'm Aus the peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With my extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um,
Wherever I drive through rain and snow,
The people always let me know:
There's Aus the Peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With his extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um.

I had a dreadful childhood, really,
I s'pose I shouldn't moan,
Each time they had a three legged race,
I won it on my own.
And also I got popular,
When came the time for cricket,
They used to roll my trousers up,
And use me for the wicket.

I'm Aus the peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With my extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um.
Wherever I drive through rain and snow,
The people always let me know:
There's Aus the Peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With his extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um.

I was a dreadful scholar,
I found all the lessons hard,
The only thing I knew for sure was three feet make a yard.
To count to ten I used my fingers,
If I needed more,
By getting my shoes and socks of,
I could count to twenty-four.
(Pause...count: 1 2 3 4 5....) To twenty-five!

I'm Aus the peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With my extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um.
Whatever I did they said was false,
They said 'Quick march,' I did a quick waltz.
Then they shouted at me 'Put your best foot forward.'
'But which foot?' I said.
'It's very fine for you, you only got a choice of two, but me!

I'm Aus the peg, deedle eedle eedle um,
With my extra leg, deedle eedle eedle um.

Let's see now (for example) if you leave at 7am you should be in Coff's by about 8am plus another 5 hours to here plus say 1/2 and hour rest and refuel break should see you here about 1.30 to 2.00 ish with a big accent on the ISH as you will be driving a bit sedately I would imagine!!:p

What a journey. Bags of fun.
101 growled into home base. No major dramas. Lots of niggles - nothing to worry about. I got to remind myself it's 35 years old. (That's nearly as old as me!)

Still got my hearing - those ear plugs are gold.

I'll have dinner and say hello to the missus and see ya later on.

Been a bit quite of late here:(

3rd August 2011, 05:52 PM
Yes it has been quiet here. I havent been working on Harry as the engine is giving me some grief as i did the rod boltd up to 35 lbs same as 202 & they kept breaking.Found out cause its an early 202 they only need to be done upto 18 lbs GGGGRRRRRRRR:mad:..So now they have to be machined as they are all stretched & all up its going to be a bill of $1200 if i do the head up to suit ULP..so been looking at other options cause i realy miss my V8 & when sleeps turned up here in the MACHINE it got me thinking again..:D..
Have been working on the camper as it has a bad gas leak & it had 2 outlets for gas but we only need the one so have all the gas lines out at the moment & i dont have a key for the water filler so have to replace that & we want to move the tap off the side to the rear where you can get to it instead of having to go all the way round the side when its set up..

I have wanted a tattoo of BANJO for some time on my right arm as just about eveyone i know calls me by that , But i cant tattoo left handed , i can write left handed though.
So Fred (Micayla) has been listening to what i have been telling her for awhile now as she is a very good drawer..
She has been getting better with the tattoo guns (machines).Has now got her own good technique with the needles & is good with needle depth now so i drew up & made the stencil.& to my surprise she has inproved so much she did the outline & started to color in but wanted a break so Karen colored the J in.. Karen is still heavy handed with the needle & a tad slow so goes over it many times & wipes lots so it starts to hurt bigtime BUT she is getting better & Micayla finished it up.. VERY VERY proud of her today she done an excelent job..

Yep it was starting to get painfull as Fred still only using small needles so takes a little longer..Used a number 1 for the outline which is fine like a strand of hair & she used a 3 shader which is like a 1 liner but has 3 needles in it but they just a smidge bigger than the liner so still small..Shaders go upto 18 then you move onto the magnums there a flat row of tightly stacked needles..

This is what i've been doing over the last few days..

Made the brackets for the car.Put the wheel studs in. Fitted the brackets to the car & painted them trial fitted the wheel..
Just have to make the bracket that attaches it to the door..
Theres no weight on the door what so ever it has a bush on the door & one on the end of the carrier , Its just so that it opens when the door is opened so dont have to unclip it , Just opens with the door..

LOL.

You need steel bumper for the disco though as there is nothing to mount it against like the series or defender.

No we have a 1995 disco--8.5 liters per 100Kilometers, 2 1/2 inch body lift, aluminium racks, Detroit locker, and we do not bounce our brains or our sore backs with its great ride. And it cost us only $4000--. Pictures of it are on AULRO under posts by previous owner.

However we did blow out the plastic plug on to of the thermostat and it overheated. that cost $3000 to be fixed by a Land Rover mechanic--we cold have purchased a second hand motor cheaper but decided to get this one rebuilt.

But if you replace all the Radiator/heater hoses, and put in brass plugs this will not happen. Or put in a low water alarm--we are going to put one in, and they should not give a problem. If you buy a 300TDI do be sure it has less than 320 thousand though-- these have bearings go at around 350,000 KM, but apparently are an easy rebuild if not damaged. Oh, and timing belt needs to be done at around every 50,000, so check if it has been done. V8s are very cheap but are also very thirsty.

We changed our disco bumper. Looks solid enough. The bumper ends had been removed by the previous owner due to the 2 1/2 inch body lift-- we put these back on. One forum member is selling his bumper at $75, so they are not too dear. I am happy enough with the series one disco bumper, and it has a built in step for when we put stuff on the roof rack. However the series 2 bumper is plastic and I am not keen on that--guess one could put a series one bumper on a series 2 disco.

We did not use the new [2nd hand] disco bumper that we bought, as the old one had metal cut away to go with the body lift.

Dont know how you do it Jason. But very impressive.

Trying to push Micayla in that direction as she is so good at drawing & prooving to be EXCELENT on the tattoo machines..
Most tattoo shops now charge a minumin of $60, Good tattooists can get anywhere from $60 to $250 an hour..
Fred just doesnt have the drive to do anything she just sits on the lounge with her phone on the home net or in her room on the poota..
And its a real shame cause she so good , she could of got an apprentaship at our local tattoo shop at the end of last year as they had 2 on offer but she just couldnt be bothered..

Anyway while she will still do us at home we will let her as she is learning all the differant skin types to tattoo & where you have to go deep with a needle & not so i dont mind being the ginipig cause she just keeps getting so much better every time she picks up a machine..

Karen sees one of the guys from the tattoo shop at the gym he is the body piercer but does some tattoos & he cant beleive how good she is..(Karen showed him the pics on her phone). He just couldnt believe it ..she is so good..

the Rural Fire Service communication team--I am a member, had been told to keep next weekend free, as we could have a lot of fires. It was the last weekend farmers could legally burn their property without a permit.

Im enjoying the rain over here Banjo,we are having a "normal" winter after a couple of very dry ones.
Keeping us VERY busy on the graders as the road itself is very dry,we put wet dirt on top,it dries very quickly, when it rains our dirt turns to slush, out we go again to sort it.
Last year it was so dry we didnt even to 1 lap of the Shire winter grading,we have already done 2 laps this year.
Helps having a fellow grader steerer that is prepared to do the hours, last bloke must have been doing HEAPS of sleeping under trees:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Also the Ho Hars opened up there camper on big red now that is a nice bit of kit Harry built it himself & its set up perfect & the job he has done it doesnt look like it was home built ..Yes i have pics Karen was on the camera so there are heaps.will put en in posts for you all now..

Jason just sent me a message to say that the other item you can bank on to break down (other than a Landie :wasntme:) - a computer - has failed and so it might be a while before he gets the pics posted. :(

P.S. I knew you would like the doormobile:cool::D

I thougherly enjoyed having everyone here & the extra cars ..Yep thats the most people ive had here ever even with family theres not that many..
Yes i loved the doormobile or carawagon as there realy called.Loved working on it & liked the bash plate under the tranny & handbreke drum..also noticed some of the body mounts are differant..

The power steering ia an easy change over for anyone.Easiest with a holden motor but i recon i could come up with a bracket to hold the pump to a rover motor..
I have been thinking of putting some kits together its just the cost of the xray on the steering shaft as it needs to be welded & i have the original steering box & am looking into being able to use the original column..

Bloody Dale the mongrel sent me an email satdy night of a doormobile for sale..
Jerry's is the first ive ever seen in person & i was saying to him that i recon his could be the only one registered in Aus he was saying he thinks theres one in Perth. Then Dale the mongrel sod sends me that email. Now if i had the money i would buy it hands down no worries & its a series 2a late one my favourite ..its on here in the markets in bloody QLD..ssshhhhh dont tell to many it mite still be there when i save a bit..LMAO..

But yeas i realy enjoyed seeing everyone on saturday all fantastic people..
I noticed a few of the neighbors where comimg out to sticky beak at the rovers & alot of the cars going past had to slow for a look to..
ROVERS arent they a wonderfull thing..
Hey Mrs H tell Harry yes if i lived next door to use i would be in his shed all the time.. But i would help him..

Well this is embarrassing, A very special thanks to jason, jim and the ho hars for organizing the repair. I had no idea that you were arranging things until Jim introduced himself and said "I've got the bits"
I would have been content just to have a chat and look at your project ;) so to get the welcome that we received was great and totally unexpected.

We had literally thrown the dormobile back together just to get to the expo, so to get this award for best camper was another unexpected surprise. Once again thanks to all concerned :twobeers:

Hi Jason, Karen, Fred and Cody - I haven't been around for a long time but so glad to hear you're still forging ahead and have met some of the long time characters of the forum. 521 pages now, that must be a record for any thread and you've made so many friends and impressed so many people. I think I've only been back to Port Macquarie once since i met you guys and that was on a real flying visit cos my in laws were crook.
I tell ya, you missed nothing at the Expo this year - when I got there it was bucketing down rain and some of the people selling stuff had already left by 9:30am. I spent an hour driving each way and about 20 mins there. Should've stayed in bed. Anyway, will try to call in again when I'm next up that way - will give you advanced notice obviously
cheers Gerald

hats blaze been upto, seems forever since I made comment here. Left Albany and now reside in Karrinyup (just north of perth). Now fitting the assesories to mine vehicles, stuff like towbars, trays, bullbars etc. The most common vehicles seems to be lowluxes with the odd holden and nissan thrown in for good measure. Made me cringe for a start boring bloody great holes in ne vehicles but then thought, Ah what the heck they are only bits of plastic with a bit of metal thrown in for good measure but no sole, so now I dont feel bad about hitting a vital organ. Now just gotta read the last 100 plus posts to catch up. Must go and see if harry is still alive

Yeah it on the road after taking the box out 4 times plus took the box outa Harry for the clutch. The pressure plate was the wrong one. When i first put it in Harry i noticed the fingers that the throw out barring rides on went in to far when it was done up but couldnt do much to proove it as its not going yet, But found out when i put it in the green one.So got the right one with the bush on the fingers so thats was good.
But cant now get a hard pedal it has always been hard & a pain to hold in at traffic lights.I put a brandnew slaves cyl in & a brandnew master cyl, when i put the master in i noticed on the pipe when i undid it the flair had snapped off so had to make a new pipe & YET AGAIN Still no hard pedal & it comes all most all the way out before it grabs where as before it only came out a a little way & no more than halfway..& i have bled them to the piont i have gone through 1 & a half bottle of brake fluid.I even did it out on the driveway so the slave cylinder was on an angle with the bleed nipple at its hieghest i could get it..So now have to replace the clutch in Harry with the flywheel as i took it aswell as its been machined.

AND to top it off even more the brandnew springs we put on it 2 years ago.the front ones are fine but the rear ones to look at are nearly flat or straight with little to no arch so the car looks like its dragging its bum..

So not happy at all & cant do a damn thing with the springs until we save up some $$$$..Plus Karen needs it everyday now for work..

I tell ya what if someone came & offered me a good price i would take it or a good swap..Just about had enough of them both..

Not to sure what to do now..

Hey Banjo.
Sorry to hear about your clutch playing up.
Does it have a rubber pressure hose,(like brake hoses),in the clutch line????
Have a look see, seen them on holden 6 conversions before.
If so,it may be the culprit.Get somebody to pump the clutch and see if it swells up.If it is swelling its stuffed and why you cant hold the clutch even with a hard pedal.
Well worth checking.
GOODLUCK

Sorry to hear your in the clutch of a land rover gremlin Banjo, hang in there mate, it will be worth it.

Yeah I been busy with the 101, still fixing the fuel filler pipe which is a bloody pain, then fitting dual batteries - got a nice kit from Mr Drivesafe, then will fit relays for headlights and fit some spotties- any recommendation, then put on some original tail lights and blinkers, - that'll probably take me months the speed I work:angel: Got a lead on a Locker diff for the rear, similar to 101Ron's. Never fitted a diff so will probably chicken out and pay someone.

Work is busy too, fine weather means lots of work.

Its funny Karens been using it every day for work & she is used to the clutch now & it is working fine & the clunking is all but gone so i think i was right that the new gearbox mounts were just holding the box up a little higher BUT now have settled..& there isnt much other noise then what any other landy makes.AND the engine seem to be running fine i had a look the other day & there was some smoke coming from the rear of the head so checked the bolts they were a little loose on the inlet & exhaust manifolds so gave them a tighten & seem all good now..
Go figure its a landy ..

Having computer problems Banjo, that's why I have been quiet!!! Most annoying. Problem is not solved yet and I am limping along with a VERY slow computer that has program conflicts. Just bought an external hardrive and I will save all important stuff from my computer and have it reformatted and start again, bugga!!:BigCry::BigCry: So I will be in and out of the Forum for a while, but as Arnie Swarzenager ( I think that's how you spell it) said "I'll be back"!!:D

Was getting a bit worried about you & was just saying to Karen i'll have to give Jim a ring tonight see if he & the family are all right & as soon as i said it the email came through saying you posted..Glad to hear that its only a computer problem . Hows work been ?..

Well for us its been a tad difficult at home now as Fred has now signed out of school & has no idea or inclination in doing anything & just sits around the house all day every day..She has some anxieties to deal with aswell like me but not as bad as me so not sure how where going to proceed with the issue yet , She has to sort out all the centre link stuff & go to one of those job centres where they help you get work or to do courses. But the problem is getting her to do this stuff on her own with out Karen or I holding her hand & as karen is working & we only have the one car now she is going to have to start catching buses on her own to get to these places..Its a big worry for Karen & I at the moment ..Fred thinks I just sit around & am just the house bitch & thats all i do & to some degree i spose she is right as since we have moved to this house i havent had to much work in that I havent been able to do to many peoples cars i usualy do alot of services or panel work plus making prts for others Plus i still get some trucks here to do work on..Once Harry finaly does get done i'm going to have heaps of work PLUS most of the trucks i used to work on or wash & grease weekly the owners are screaming for me to come back BUT i have to have Harry on the road before i can think of that as i need me tools & other stuff for that & i only do them from friday afternoon till sunday afternoon , Usualy on friday from about 4 till midnight & satdy & sundy from about 8am till about 8 pm & thats enough to give me a wage (cash in hand from $50 an hour) that was with Karen helping so we didnt have to pay someone else all the money was coming into the house as such.I didnt have enough time to do all the trucks i had to do on my own thats why Karen helped plus i only had that time to use the pit as the company had there own trucks to do threw the week & i couldnt use it then..I would like to go back to doing them but i realy have to have Harry on the road for that..

Work has been OK, mate, you know, same old, same old every day, money is not bad and it keeps the bills paid!!;) Hey maaattee, can you do me a BIG, BIG, HUUGGGE favour. Use sentences and paragraphs in your long posts as it seems like you are talking at 100 miles an hour and it is hard to read!!:):)
I went to the dentist on Thursday last week and had a crown put onto one of my back teeth, won't tell you how much it cost but it was expensive.:eek2: That was my second visit the first one was to have the tooth measured up for the crown, I go back tomorrow for the Dentist to check on the "bite"

Heck, they know how to charge, and I have to have another crown put on a front tooth, after I recover financially!!;)

Well we mite be doing a sleepy in that we mite be saying bye for awhile...
The green car is off the road AGAIN its not running properly at all & looks like it will have to go to a shop & get fixed as i have no idea as to whats doing it,,,,,I have a feeling it mite be the carby this time & it has that holley 350 on it..I changed the dizzy to the brandnew one i got for Harry..

But if its going to cost a lot Karen said well they all have to go..She mite be finishing up work soon as she has worked out,,If we just have our pensions & she does the couple of cash jobs she has she earns more that she is now & would only have to work 1 to 1 & half days a week for the same money..

So we may be with out . car . very. soon, not;to ;much ] trouble as [Karen said .<she could just ?use the } bus {for *work"....

So thats where we are at the moment & to top it off its raining so cant get out & set the timing properly till it stops & dries out a bit. I have it running set at TDC so just need to set it all propely now..

I do have a large tattoo stenciled up to go on the back of my lower leg so mite do that while its raining if i can get FRED out of bed before lunch So if use hear some screaming its just me as this one is going to hurt bigtime..
