Still gotta get down here to take it back. AND I would have to go over everything checking diff oil and stuff...
That U-Haul price seems a bit dear. If you add in the cost of fuel both ways and overnight accommodation for the 'rents, you are looking at about the same price as the truck.

I guess you can't put parts inside the vehicle because they are worried they won't be there at the other end!
I will work on a plan. I think I may be able to do something from this end.
I'll try to ring you about it tomorrow.
and, I really don't think a permit to drive it will work. What if it breaks down? Who would feel bad? How would it be recovered? It would be back to square one but the vehicle on the side of the road for any mongrel to help themselves to it...

Probably towards the middle or end of June, Jim. I am waiting for one of two car trailers to turn up. (I have access to 2 trailers but they are both away at the moment). I put new tyres on the back of the Disco this morning for the trip... The old ones had only done 115,000k with me driving (don't know how new they were when I bought the car) so I am a bit annoyed... :)
The guy in the tyre shop was blowing them up and I said "38psi please".
"No", he says, "you should be running 50 in all 4".
"Hmmm, what a pity", I replied. "I only had 28 in the front and 38 in the back because that's what the owners manual says - and I only got 115,000 out of those back ones. Guess I made a mistake, huh? Now put 38 in them. You know I will only reset them when I get home."
He wasn't happy.

Hey Jason, next weekend will be open day at Fort Scratchley and they will be firing the 6 inch guns. As you know, I served at the Fort before the Army moved out. Not on the big guns though, they were before my time.:D
I will take a couple of the grandkids up there as they have never been there before!!

I notice they have ex-military vehicles on display, should be some Landy's there I would imagine. The S2a was the vehicle then in use, when I was there in the late 60's. Also, I hope there will be Studebaker and GMC six wheel drive trucks that we used as gun towers. Would be good to see the old girls again.:D
Bet they don't have a 40mm Bofors Anti Aircraft gun there though, that's what I served on.;)

Was reading on an old forum i a
was a member of today about a SWB with a holden 253 V8 in it..
253 in Land Rover (http://oldholden.com/node/21638#comment-81314)
By Circlotron (http://oldholden.com/user/4584) 06/11/05@13:53
Back in 1978 my cousin stuck a re-ringed ex-HT 253 in a Series IIA short wheelbase Land Rover. Was the second in Australia I am told. Motor to bellhousing adapter ring was done by some guy named John Lake IIRC. Had a 27% Fairey overdrive. Stepping out of my 192 LC and driving that, it didn't feel at all slow. Interesting part was fuel consumption - the standard 2-1/4 litre Landy motor gave 16mpg, a 186 gave 16mpg, and the 253 towing a loaded single-axle trailer all the way from Melbourne to Cape York and back at mostly 75mph gave 17 mpg. It was a hard trip, most everything on the vehicle broke. Chassis had to be re-welded at one stage, overdrive got so whiny that when he went through towns people would turn to see what was coming. *But*... the motor gave absolutely =zero= trouble. Dual exhausts went white the first day out and stayed that way for the next six weeks of the trip. He was nearly having heart failure way up north because at one place petrol cost 21 cents per litre. That was one helluva vehicle, to be sure.
Wish fuel was still this cheap..Actualy we where talking awhile ago about when i used to run the old SOLO service station at Jesmond . I had a LS mini clubman & it used to cost a whopping $4.00 to fill the whole tank..Gees i miss those days..

conversions..Back in the late 60s a guy in Perth named Max De Burgh had a SWB Landy with a Dodge Phoenix and auto in it . It could fly. Re fuel consumption, most Landis could get around 25 MPG reasonably easy.
There was a guy in subiaco can't remember his name not Don Hall had a 53 or so lo light Morri Minor with a sidevalve 36 V8 and box, never got out of top gear. I actually rode in a Jag XK 120 that had a 48 Dodge flathead sidevalve motor and 3 speed box the guy could not afford a new motor for the jag. He also hand painted it with a brush in bright red because he did not like the British racing green. He got away with the motor because no one would take an XK120 on. Was quieter and more reliable than the Jag but still...
And there was a guy with a 36 or so Hudson Terraplane ute he had a Mk 7 Jag motor and box in it. Gave some people a nasty shock. he lived out Greenmount or Kalamunda way somewhere in the hills.
Another guy had a MG TF with a grey motor with Studebaker wedge pistons and Wilson preselector gear box. The motor was all Waggot, head cam etc., used to fly.
He could not keep up the payments so when they came to repossess it he had stripped it right down to the last nut and bolt and screw. I saw it in his backyard that's how I know what pistons were in it, they repossessed it anyway and the guy who bought it spent months putting it back together and wrecked a couple of months later. i bought the motor and put in my X taxi Fc, EVERYTHING on that car was worn out. Done about half million miles. The Waggot head cracked across one of the valves and it used to blow head gaskets every couple of days and i could not afford a new head so I got quite expert at replacing FC head gaskets. Could get home at 5.30 Friday night pull the head and be out on the road again by 6.15 after a shower. I swapped it for an EH took over the payments he took the FC I never saw it again. Would love another FC, but wagon this time.

hopping back to a bit earlier in the thread - engine conversions - where in 1978 someone put a 253 in a IIA and was the second one in Oz? In 1973 just after I left school I had my first 4WD - sorry, it was a 1967 FJ40, the one with the Japanese copy of the chev 3.8 six and 3 on the floor. Anyway, a bloke I knew made a bullbar for it for me, a chap called Allan Brister. He had a stainless steel business in Adelaide and he had a series landy with a 253 in it then. It was topless and bright metallic blue with a stainless steel roll bar and widies. It went like stink but stopped like...... well it didn't stop very well at all. Interesting side bar - Allan made the stainless steel 'balls' in Rundle mall - he was a flawless tradesman. The artist just came up with the idea, it took Allan, a true artist, to make it a reality. Recently when the 'balls' were re-furbished, it was Allans company who did it too. Just seen his company is still going - see this link: Home (http://www.brister.com.au/)

Yeah - brakes...
Banjo is fortunate with this one in that it was originally a 2.6 so it has the full setup of 3" shoes on the front and a brake booster.
Once set up properly they work very well. The one Banjo has purchased comes with a brand new master cylinder and booster.

May be this should be on a tyre thread but we have a sticker on our Disco [300TDI] from the tyre peole who sold tyres to previous owner saying 40 PSI all around.
It depends on your tyre type and the driving you do

[LEFT] Was going to buy one of those ozpig fires so i could work in the shed once it gets cooler & of a night. They are $300 at the camping shop but up at thornten were mum lives is a guy who makes them so karen called in there today as Cody had footy there & she was up there to take the kittens back a coupla weeks ago & thought she saw that they were $200 but when she called in there today they are actualy $260 & you dont get what you get with the ozpig..But i mite spend the money on another one of those supercheap carport things i used to have the white one & some GOOD rope to tie the damn thing down better , But then i'll be cold & wont want to go work out there :(..
Banjo, you could weld togetether two old rims, weld outside of the rim to the outside of the other rim, to make a very good & cheap fireplace yourself. I have seen this done, with another rim, a third one, underneath for a stand.
If necesary weld slug into holes in rim, but of course not into the axle hole. You do put your cooking pot or billy over the axle hole.
Do not know that ozpig fire place, but googled a picture. The one made from a few old rims is cheaper, and works well.
We made a forge for blacksmithing out of an old truck rim, and set it up so it could be used as a BBQ as well-- nfound a round hotlate in a clean up day heap, but never have used this forge, because never got around to getting the bellows for it.
But maybe one day.
With coke for heat blacksmithing in a forge is fun, you can make a numberof things, and is fairly cheap.

Banjo, when I mentioned the fire place made from a couple of rims, I should have told you:--
DO NOT USE OLD MAG RIMS, use only Steel rims :D :D :D
magnesium burns.
Do not use Land Rover Rims, some one will need those for a restoration, use Crapota, or Holden, or Nisan rims, etc.
Imagining the rim as a U shape, or upside down U, place three rims thus sitting on each other—no gap as in illustration, the bottom one sits on the ground:--
n
u
n
And yes, this will not be legal during fire season, especially when windy, but will be okay at other times, when you are allowed camp fires.
When I first saw this in use, I thought it was a great idea.
I did forget one other thing, a round grid as per drain pipe grid, to sit the wood on, and sto it from falling through. Following my diagram it sits on the bottom of the U.
Wood is fed in through the axle hole in the top rim.
If the top and second rim were different sizes, say a 15 inch and a 16 inch you could make this without welding, unless you wanted to weld up holes that would have vented brake drums in the top two rims in order to lessen sparks in windy conditions.
I would see no reason to weld up the holes for formerly bolting the rims onto the hubs. Actually thinking about this, when using three rims these holes could be used in order to bolt the base rim to the one holding the wood, the top one just sitting like a lid. May need too weld on locating lugs for it to sit where you want it to sit.
With slugs welded in the top and middle rim, I think it could be made fairly spark proof. We made slugs to weld into holes in out truck rim forge, and I watched others do this as well with their forges. Should mention we made these forges as a welding project during a TAFE Welding Course.
We also made anvils from pieces of old railway track, oxy-cutting them to shape finishing with angle grinder,
And if the old rims used to make a fireplace are a bit bent it does not matter too much. And you save $200, but it won’t look as good as a Ozpig. It could look much better
Now that I have told you all this, we found a second hand pot belly stove with a cook plate top for only $100 a few years ago, and with a piece of the right diameter pipe thrust in for a chimney such could be used for what you need.
And you could then make me a cuppa on it if & when I get down your way again
. I will give you a call if I get down that way.
JohnF

Since I mentioned a forge with its holes welded, I must add that the rims used for a fire place could be used without any welding. The one I saw was not welded and was made from old Holden rims.
The first homemade forge I saw was a small one made from a Holden rim.
Do burn all the original paint off your rims, and do not breathe its fumes, may contain lead, etc. If you did want it painted paint it in “Stove Black,” which is used for pot-bellied stoves, etc., and does not give poisonous fumes.
If you do make a fire stove this way, do be aware do not have any flammable litter near it, and definitely no petrol in plastic Jerry Cans, etc., near it. It could send sparks, but not too many.

At TAFE, before they cancelled these courses I did a Rural Black-Smith course, and later a Decorative Metal Work course. Over half the class in that decorative Metal Work course were women, who were taught to weld, etc.
In the TAFE forge I made a cold chisel from 1 inch hex bar, and without the forge I made a tool to open 44 gallon drums, and made a 2 inch high letters brand, F76 to brand my beehives, made a homemade hive tool, made a twisted T-shape sump plug remover, made a star post driver, a candelabra and also made a letterbox from an old rusted in the bottom milk container [the one farmers sold bulk milk in, that held somewhere around 25 litres or so of milk] plus its pole, decorated with scroll work. I can’t remember at the moment what else I made, not counting that Anvil plus that Forge mentioned above.
But many things can be made in the forge at only the cost of fire wood and a bag of coke. One guy made himself blacksmith tongs and other tools.
One other guy was making a sword out of an old leaf spring.
Those really keen on blacksmithing get steel springs from cars, torsion bars, axles, etc., [even if broken from an old series] as in older cars these were made from good quality steel better than much that is used today.
So that black-smithing is not that expensive once you have your forge. anvil, hammers tongs, cold chisels, and other tools, plus leather apron, gloves, oxy-goggles or protective eyewear, protective non-flammable clothes [cotton or wool] leather steel caped boots, etc. drop a heavy large red hot cold chisel, etc., on your foot and you will know why leather steel capped boots are essential. You can find these in op-shops or garrage sales, at times.
If you salvage your steel from old cars, axles, etc., the only running cost of a forge is your firewood & coke. Get an axe & reduce your running cost to a bag of coke now & then [a bag of coke will last you a long time, of many days at the forge.]
This assumes a hand-cracked blower on your forge, such as the one that we used at TAFE. Some use an old vacuum cleaner to blow the air to fan the flames, and this does add a cost of electricity. I have not seen this being done.
The reason for the firewood is you make a bed of coals for the coke, and this takes time, so you boil the Billy & make some Jaffles [assuming you have a jaffle iron] while you are waiting for a good bed of coals to form.
But it is fun to use a forge, and you get the kids to crank the fan of the forge, while making sure they do not touch any red hot metal.
Oh I met one man who showed me his very small forge that he uses to make jewellery to sell at the markets.
And as I said we found a hot plate to fit our truck rim forge, so it can be also our BBQ.

I would suggest if she learns on a small auto that is all she will be able to drive for the rest of her life. If she learns on a Landrover manual she will be able to drive anything she wants to drive in the future, manual or auto.
So I think she should learn to drive on a manual, then if nessesary drive an auto after that, as she will then have the confidence to drive anything.
One day a few yesars ago I drove a 15 ton Fire truck in some driving lessons on back roads, on that truck. Do not have a truck licence and had never driven a truck over 4.5 ton, but went to learn to drivde a fire truck.

John, John,John, where did you hear that rubbish.:o Learning on an automatic makes getting her licence easier and then if she wishes after she has gained experience, it will be much easier for her to learn on a munual, she will pick up the knack of foot (clutch) and left arm (gear shifting)cordination a lot quicker. My youngest daughter did just that and she is now fully confident on a manual car!!!

RTA may have changed the rules, but my son was allowed to learn to drive on a V8 [1984 Range Rover classic], then when he got his P's was not allowed to drive the v8 any more. But because at that stage the v8 was our only car, we went in with a medical certificate saying sometimes my Knee or foot stopped me from driving it [I have Pseudo-gout], and we got an excemption so my son could drive our V8 on his P's. We had argued it was a small V8 and not that powerful though.
As I said rules may have changed, but my son learned on a v8, then got an exemption to drive it on his P's. Might be different with other cars in the family, but I would find out.
Ps, do not show Fred this post, let her think she can only drive Harry :):D.
Hello Fred. :D
JohnF
3rd July 2012, 12:44 PM
Banjo, I should have added that we do live in the Bush, and could justify having a V8 4X4, as I am a pensioner and could not afford a diesel 4x4 —our Range Rover cost was only $2000, all we could afford to buy at that time. And that was a part of the reason my son got an exemption on his driving our V8 on his P’s. But we had no problem with him driving the V8 when he was on his L’s, and he went for his P-plate licence test twice on that Range Rover V8 with its V8 badge [first time he failed because he changed lanes while he went through the roundabout.] That V8 was not a problem to RTA examiner. See a L-plate driver always has an experienced driver instructing him, so it was not a problem for someone to learn to drive on a V8. But on Ps it can become a problem as the young driver usually do want to go fast without the parent seated next to them.
Do check with RTA if the laws has changed since my son got his licence 7 years ago.
We asked NRMA insurance and found that it was not a problem for our son to learn on the V8 from an insurance point of view, but once he was on his Ps they put an extremely large excess for him on our insurance.
Of course having them learn on an 4 cylinder causes the parent instructor to have better health as they are not always white knuckled, screaming out something like:-- “slow down, you will kill us all”—the main problem with teaching kiddys to drive on the v8.
Also you could tell Fred that if she can learn on Harry, she may then be able to drive the V8 on private property bush tracks [assuming you can find some nearby who will let you drive on their property.]
An L-plate driver has to get 100 hours of driving experience before going for the License. This does not all have to be on-road, some could be off-road in the V8, i would think. I would think if you can find a private property to drive on. You fill-out that log book where you drive point to point. I would doubt they would say that 10km of low ratio first through mud should not count towards those hours that you are required to do-- you could tell them if they question it you were being taught what to do when it is slipery, if you listed it in your log book.

Places like Stockton Beach may be counted as roads; at least the beach on Frazer Island is, So that you cannot have a P-plate driver driving on the beach without a V8 exemption.
And you are also expected to obey most road rules on the beach if you do any such trips.

Well for those of you who know , I have been looking for a new home for my little dog Squirt (jack russel)..He is very very timered & its been driving me insane the last year. If i was working on a car or going off at the kids he would take off with his tail between his legs & jump in bed & you would'nt see him for a week..Well we answered an add on gumtree over the weekend someone looking for a small dog but not a pup..Well they came today to see him They where very excited when they met him & seen all his tricks he could do..& Squirt was very happy to see them so they took him..It was for the daughter who came to see him. She was so happy & squirt just loved her ..She is a disabled girl about 11.Just a bit slow i think..So i know he is going to be SPOILT rotten with her so i was very happy to watch them leave with him..Squirt being always eager to please the girl was so happy & Squirt went with her as if he has been with her all his life..So yep i was happy he was happy..
I've been told i should replace him ASAP with another dog..ANY THOUGHTS????
I had my last dog a BLUE cattle dog for 13 years , she had to be put down as she was full of cancer :( ....
I do miss him already but know he is much better of with the young girl..
We are both worried about not having a dog in the yard with all my tools only in a garden shed plus the camper & the cars..This area is renowned for stealing & breack & enters..& just plain little bastards that just go around vandalising everything & anything..
So what do all use think should i replace him now straight away or is it wrong to do that ??
If i do it will be with a BLUE cattle dog or a red Kelpie like red dog. I've always has these breeds & they are very loyal & protective of us & our property But will only have a female..ANYWAY any thoughts on what to do ?????

"ACD" would have to be the best insurance company on the market and the nicest to deal with! :)
Unless your the "villain" ;)
A Red or Blue from a blood line with a good temperament and your on a winner for sure. We have had several over the last 30 years and they have all been wonderfull dogs. Hardy, loyal, obedient, excellent watch dogs and terrific pets. Our latest Heeler was obtained through a pet adoption agency 18 months ago and she was eighteen months old. She is a great dog...a good mate, a good pet and an excellent watch dog. Kelpies are fantastic dogs, but unlike Heelers which are content to lay under your Landy all day and wait for their next ride, Kelpies tend to get a bit bored and are just as likely to pull all the washing off the line and then dig a hole and bury it!
After all both breeds are working dogs and in a working environment would be running 30-50 kays a days.
Cheers, Mick.

The dog i had before Squirt was a Blue cattle X , female i had her for 13 years & she just got better with age BUT i had to have her put down as she was full of cancer & in a lot of pain..
I prefer the Blue heelers to the red as i have found the blues to be a quieter dog with barking..
I realy miss Matilda . When she was young she would go fetch anything you threw for her & would do it allday & would also just sit at your feet allday if that was just what you wanted to do..She would sit in the shed with me allday & just fetch for an hour before T & she was happy doing that. She was extremely Spoilt she was ..Very very loyal & very protective of us all....

A bit over 20 years on series landys..Id like to keep them all ..We get our tax back & its a tad under $3000 & i could buy one of those oversized garden sheds 6m X 3m & get the parabolics for the wagon . But then that would be using all the money & would'nt get much more done to the wagon . But i would have the shed to paint Harry in as thats pretty much where i'm upto..Wagon needs brakes sorted , power steering done plus the Xray on the shaft , make a drag link , Find a steering column , replace the front seats ,fix some rust in the front of chassis , Make new lighter bullbar , See how we go with the fuel tank as someone has cut it , they are double skinned & someone has cut the outer skin off the bottom. Door seals which i have for the front plus a couple of little rust holes in door jams.Wheels & tyres cause i wont use standard wheels they look so wrong & i cant understand why they even used them to start with there to narrow eek yuk..rebuild carby which is same as on green one a holley 350 & the green one cost us $700 to have rebuilt cause i cant get the shaft bushes any more.. Then it needs to be engineered for engine & gearbox plus the steering plus the front seats & the wheels.. They all have separate charges thats why engineering certificates are so dear... Plus i still have that much to do to Harry aswell .But it was always going to be long turm on Harry.
But yes i would love to keep them all BUT i can understand what Karen says when she says i'm sic of spending any money we get on bloody cars..

Goes to show mate, you do have people who are interested in your wellbeing!!!!:DJust a thought mate, that tax refund would go a long way towards buying a small auto car!!! Sell the two projects and maybe the trailor, keep the "Green Machine" as I feel you have green "LandRover" blood in your veins and you will regret selling the lot. Now with your tax refund plus what you get for the "selloff", you could buy a reasonable vehicle that is about 6 or 7 years old.

Don't know whats going to happen yet. I've been looking at shipping container hire aswell thanks to Dale..Actualy if i could pickup a secondhand container for around the same price as one of those sheds that would be even better as it can surve 2 purpaces cause we want to move & will have to move soon enough once the rent gets to high.So could use it to pack everything in for the move..We've looked before & recon with the stuff we want to keep we could get everything into a 20ft container..Dunno i'm sic of stressing over it all. I'm still working on the wagon everyday so bits are getting done..The green landy will have to go as we have now found that the front suspension is'nt working at all cause those springs are so hard they just do'nt move at all so the tyres are the suspension..& kids are to big for the back of it now..hopefully we will just end up with wagon & Harry & maybe get Fred a small auto later.. She is getting all her lessons for free since she has some of my problems she is on a PART pension only. She still goes to one of those JOB SEARCH places but it caters for disabilities . . .I'd realy like to be able to work from home for someone , Like ALL4X4 rebuilding boxes or engines or something.. My perfect job would be to work for someone who just gives me a list at the begining of the week & say need that done this week & it be upto me when to do it.. You know get it done in a day or 2 or just go in for an hour or so , But just as long as i get whats on the list done ..That way if i panic or have a realy bad day i dont have to turn up no questions asked..BUT tell me where on this earth you can find people who care enough as a boss to have that work for them.. I seem to get used in all the jobs i've had , I learn very quickly & i'll ask questions so i do get things right..I worked for an engineering shop within 6 months i was running a milling machine aswell as doing my labourers job BUT they still only paid me as a labourer , Could of paid me as a second class machinist but no that was more..I quit that job cause of that as they got to the stage you work on machines aswell as your labourers job or get fired. They did'nt put any apprentices on while i was there cause i did there job.. I'm not winging just saying it should of worked bothways i was happy to do the work but they could of atleast gave me a small raise..I have always been if your going to do a job do it great & do it first time & i always stay till the job is done not bitch cause its after knockoff time..I cant understand kids today that are like that..
Maybe its just me..

Hi banjo,
It might be worth trying a few companies who make and sell the roof sheets, ask if they have any seconds or wrong orders. It's usually cheaper to get it from them than it is to buy secondhand.
Another thought......... I know of an elderly gent who sits in his shed making gutter spikes :) His boss drops them off in pieces and he then welds them and boxes them up. He's made something like 3 million over the years.
Might be something similar that you could do from home and it's flexible ;)

It's not just you that gets used Jase!!:( I'll tell you a little story, back in the mid to late 70's I worked as a truck driver at the chicken factory, down the road from you at Cardiff. We used to go out to the farms and bring in the chickens to the factory, its called "live haul".
Anyrate, the leading hand quit and the Foreman offered me the job, which is all well and good, payrise and all. Now, in those days the trucks only went out to the farms at night, so it was permanent night work, with shifts starting at 9pm and finishing at 6am unlike today when the trucks are operating 24 hours a day.
The Foreman is supplied with a vehicle and it is his job to organise the roster and arrange for the casuals to fill in and work out loadings on the trucks and what farms the trucks are to go to.
The Foreman goes on holidays and I had to do my job PLUS his and when I said to him "do I get the vehicle while you are away" he said "no".
Now, instead of starting my shift at 9pm, I had to go to the factory at 3pm to work out truck loadings and rosters etc, so I was working from 3pm to 6am next morning!! No extra money, by the way.
I chucked it in!!! So you see mate, it's not just you, most companies will try it on, sadly!!:(
Having said all that, I must thank the chicken factory, because in those days when going for truck licences they let you use their trucks, that's how I got my HC class licence!!:)

When i worked at the timber mill at glendale the same happend was running the machines , , But i was happy there cause i ended up full time on the HUGE bandsaw..I was doing my truck licence while there so they let me out in the trucks once a week all good so i booked in to do my test & asked if i could use one of the trucks to do it , In my time not theres..Yeah sure you can . so the day before my driving test i was told no you cant use the truck as we just got the new trucks in today..GGGGGRRRRRRRRR
Now i dont have a truck licence :(.Although i can drive upto a 20 speed & even got the old MACK joey box down pat. When we used to do the trucks i had to back 2 B-doubles between other trucks.. Plus truck & Dogs , Cant say i like those took me forever to get them right & be able to back them away..

G'Day Carolyn:D This Mod business, I can take it or leave it, it's no big deal. On the Pommy Forum, which is only a small one, I've been a Mod for two years now and only ever had to wear my "Mod Hat" once when somebody posted a poem that was inappropriate for a family Forum. The Poms are great fun, very layback and Admin/Mods have a relaxed attitude as long as Forum members realise that it is a family friendly Forum.:D
The Yanks on the other hand are much more straightlaced and formal and it so happens they did have an Aussie Moderator (from Queensland actually) who died just before I joined and as was indicated to me in the offer they need somebody to Mod in a different time zone to North America.:D
Just received another PM from them that all is looking good and they are approaching Admin to have me "assigned"!!:)
I guess that will tie me up, I think Modding on two Forums is sufficient, as I work full time and there are only so many hours in the day!!!:)

I think they will rub the chassis real bad on the standard rims..They are only retreads , But should be ok as i dont think we will be setting any speed records..
Sic of this waiting tho , theres not to much i can do till i get the suspension sorted . I'll set the power steering up then so it all works with the suspension that way i dont have the same trouble as i did with the green one with the drag link hitting the spring..

We havent heard anything this morning so Karen has gone back upto see her , Her mum is in a nursing home at Hexham..
Karen doesnt want me to go with her to see her or to the funeral as it mite start something when her family sees me, Apperently i'm the reason Karen doesnt see them & that theres nothing wrong with me at all , I'm full of **** to them..
I would like to go see her mum & to the funeral so i can surport Karen BUT i do understand why she doesnt want me there & she doesnt want the kids there either so i stay with them..

Well its been quiet in here for awhile..We've had a bad week this week Karens Mums funeral was a week ago friday just been so Karen has had her moments after finding out her mum was actualy in the nursing home close by for 2 years , She has been remembering things about her mum & has times of upset.. Cody came off his bike last weekend & cut his leg open just below his left Knee , Quiet bad then yesterday again right on T time fell on it & reopened it & has made it even worse so Karen spent a few hours up at the John hunter at the GP access , No stitches as its to bad to stitch so now has to goto the docs every second day to have it cleaned & recovered..School hols here so thats slowed him down & he aint happy at all..
I was working on the oz pig & BLEW both compressors up so now dont have any :( . I got the baulkhead off Harry out & have started to sand it , Its hard going i spend 9 hours the other day on it & didnt get much done & have hurt my back bad from bending over it sanding.I blew up another electric drill , this one caught fire while drilling so flew out the shed with flames everywhere. . Have to take Lucy (feret) to the vets on monday as she has something wrong with one of her back legs , Fir & skin is missing its not a cut , but they can get cancer quiet common so has to go to the vets to find out for sure as she has some of the symptons , Freds realy worried as she spends all her free time with her..
Sometimes i wish the ground would open up & just swollow me.
Other then that were all good & breathing..
Karen did hear about her tax last monday & was told we should have it back within 2 weeks so this week is the second so hopefully we get it & get the suspension for the wagon & get that sorted & ill do the power steering on it then check & readjust all the brakes & put the duel curcit master cyl in & saftey switch , then just need to sort out the wheels & tyres & engineer it ..

WOW had to go digging for the thread..
Well after the last few weeks of breaking tools.Blew both compressors up was able to build a small 13CFM on a 40ltr tank outa both..Its not big enough to run my air tools but works anyway..The torch melted on my mig at the machine end Have fixed but its just not upto welding what i weld anymore. Then the big electric drill caught fire & was promtly exited from the shed with flames..
So i brought this this week .

Its a ROSS brand 150 amp gas/gasless.Have only tried the gasless wire so far but i did buy one of those disposable gas bottles to try the gas wire..I wont be welding in shorts anymore , This thing has some power for a small welder i burnt both me knees when i tried it :(..
I also picked this up today..

Its about 23 CFM with about 17CFM free air delivery.3 pump belt drive off a Honda 6.5 HP petrol engine its a WTD brand.Has a 100 ltr tank .. the gauges on it where average so i had the gauges off the one that could'nt be fixed all the same only look new so i put them on..& as i'm fussy with my tools since it took me so long to get what i have i realy look after them so the compressor will be repainted :).
I just have to pick up a few things for the compressor tomorrow..There worth well over $2500 new so got a good buy at under $1000..I'm happy so far with it but it has'nt been put to work properly yet..
So i have a MIG here if you want Jim.Or drifter or anyone realy. Its good to learn with as i fixed it & it does work just not strong enough for what i do..

Never learnt to weld, would like to though. How much do you want for it Jase???:)
Jim, I went and did a couple ofTAFE welding courses. If you can find the time I would do that. A number of TAFE welding were of a evening--Not sureif they still run these.

I painted the tank on my new compressor & have now put all my air regulator & fittings on it..

Hey Jim i know i said you could have the trolley with the welder but i ended up moding it to use with new welder as i did'nt want it left on the floor as it gets water over it when it rains..

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/10/435.jpg
This morning i made a bracket for the water trap / regulator so it on there..I hooked it all up with some fittings i had but dont use & put some fittings on the hose aswell..Got that tyre inflator with the compressor i brought BUT i already have one so i put a fitting on it for you aswell..So its all ready to go..Atleast ya can check your tyre pressure for now till you get some other air tools..The compressor works well its a 13CFM the only problem with it is the pipe from the pump to the tank.I had it fitted at WARD AIR as it was an old one & bent & kinked but he heated it & rebent it to suit , It weekens it by heating so it may go BUT it mite last years & its only $30 to replace.I dont need it as it wont last a week running all my air tools..
The welder
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/10/436.jpg
The welder is old & noisy but works fine , So will last you awhile as you wont be welding as much as i do..I used to run it for hours & it would over heat & stop & would have to wait for it to cool down to start again..The torch melted at the machine end BUT i fixed it & will work fine for what you'll need it for..I have been welding pretty big stuff lately & it just does'nt cope with it..
They both work fine.. I dont want anything for them just knowing they will goto someone who will use & appreciate them..
I mite get Karen to drop them off at your place this week SO THERE OUTA ME SHED..:D:D:D:D

Hey Jason, just ordered, off the internet a Nikon D5100 camera with an 18 to 55mm lens and a 55 to 200mm lens.:D VERY good price too, good to have a decent camera again and get back into taking some decent piccies. As you might remember I was a wedding photographer and also owned a photoshop until things went downhill because of the change to digital technology!!:D
Now all I have to get is a flashunit, some filters and a camera bag as well as a tripod.:D always been a fan of the Nikon brand of cameras!! the Canon brand sells cheaper, but I am a dyed in the wool Nikkonut!!

Yeah its a series 3 ..Yeah i'm pretty sure it was 71 when the series 3 started. Some of the very LAST series 2a had a lot of the series 3 bits to get rid of the last of them..& If he gets that much for it or even close to it I better put 10 grand on the green one..:D
Our wagon is a 2a 1972.All the last ones had the series 3 gaurds , some had the gearbox as well..Series 2 & 2a have the better dash..
A series 3 with a series 2a gearbox is best . . .

Hi guys, long time no chat. Have been way too busy trying to work around the house and working for a living. Hope you're all going well, as it seems from the posts.
Yes, I visited the Soapbox a few times and voiced my opinion which was met with some scorn, argument and not abuse but not that far from it. But then again, that's what a soapbox is all about, isn't it. People having their say and arguing with others. I don't really like to argue so I just stay away from those emotional issues. Jason and Karen, I hope to pop in again on one of my next trips up to Port. Haven't been up that way for quite a while. Also have to meet Jim. Saw the pic of your desktop fence - hehe. Here's a copy of my latest desktop.
