Just going through my emails - it takes a while

What I should have been doing is taking pictures of the rebuild effort. I have a few 'snaps' but nothing serious and there have been lots of times when I should have taken some.

This past weekend:

All I managed to get done was:

completed the wiring
installed Series 3/late 2a wipers (single motor) - all in and working!
created mount points for facia panel that covers wiper spindle and control line.
drilled and cut holes and installed demister tubing and demister heads

I was about to go and install new park and indicator lights all round - one park light was refusing to function last weekend so I ordered a whole new set - but now the original is working so I'll leave that for now.

Next steps:
strip down the heater assy - clean and pressure test - check lecky motor and bearings - mount in vehicle
finish refurbishing steering wheel and mount that back in the vehicle

neither of those will get done any time soon https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/03/96.jpg

and after all that -
I am getting close to getting an engine ready for it
I need to sort out an exhaust system
I need to get the seats recovered
I have ordered new door rubbers
I am about to order new rear and side window rubbers
I am about to order two new door tops and possibly a passenger door.

Then I get to sort out the brakes and clutch hydraulics

so - still a bit to do :)

I made a whole new wireing harness for mine.

That's what I did.

The park light will be the earth on that one light.

I checked that at the time. Pulled the light apart and looked up the socket - the connection inside looked nurfed - that's when I said 'SOD it' and ordered all new lights all around.

Heater assembaly WHATS THAT mine didn't have one so i never put one in it .but super crap sell those new ceramic one so i will use those when it gets cool not cold enuff yet to worry about that..

I mainly wanted mine to demist the windscreen. Pulled it out of the donor.

Steering wheel i have a sports one SMALL.

Mine is the standard one - and I'll use that since I just bought a brand new horn assembly for the middle of it.

I used defender door rubbers allround second hand.
My side window rubbers came from CLARK RUBBER was heaps cheaper buy it the length.

The door rubbers are coming from the UK. The window rubber from Clarks will cost around $146 - so I am trying to find a better option.

I need a new door top for drivers side passenger side one is an allor one would love one for the drivers side to no rust.

I'm looking at the alloy door tops - a bit pricey though.

My stepson has a bleeder unit that works on compressed air so we will be giving it a shot with that first.

Good to hear Fatty was useful. Mine is embarrassed, I think, and now wants it off the front yard. I said it will go when I can drive it off!

Yeah, I have the same problem with my garden shed, which was here when we bought this house. Several attempts to stop it leaking have failed. I've lifted everything I can on shelves and stands, but its still a pain. I think the only answer is going to be to raise the concrete floor, which will mean dismantling the shed, so I'm not looking forward to that. Maybe it will eventually stop raining...

Funny, it's the roof that leaks when it rains in England, not the floor.

Oh well! Plenty of Silastic for the shed and RP7 for the tools. Should keep you out of trouble for the rest of the day.
Taking the OKA down for its roadworthy today, will tell you more later.

Had a bit of a storm down here a couple of weeks ago. Hailstones went through the polycarbonate roofing on the shed and filled my toolbox's and socket cases up with water. Fortunately electrical stuff was in a steel cupboard and survived OK. 2 days, 2 cans of RP7 and 4 new sheets of polycarbonate (at vast expense) all was fixed.
Got the Road Worthy Certificate OK for the Oka, I think you guys have pink slips and blue slips and things up there. Whats the difference, pink for girly cars and blue for macho machines?:)

Hard to tell of course, but I haven't observed an excessive number of obviously unsafe vehicles swanning around.

They've got some real funny regs. though. I bought a P38 in Brisbane about 12 months ago. I picked it up that day Brisbane had its biggest storm since whenever. Everything was flooded. Picked up the Rangey and drove it back to Melbourne. I had Qld RWC, proof of ownership and rego papers. Rang Qld rego mob who told be I had to have 100 points worth of police annotated documentation as well to transfer rego but only if I had a Qld license or had previously had a Qld license. With a Vic license I had to front IN PERSON to transfer the rego. Crazy. In the end I just ran it till the Qld rego ran out, and re-registered in Vic. So in the end Qld missed out on the transfer fee.
The 'Smart State', NOT.

Cost and bother of getting Vic RWC as Qld RWC no good here. Also wanted to base the vehcle in Mackay, so Qld rego would have been better.

Hi Aus so what you been upto on your day off... Well, Banjo if you really want to know I went to the Doctors to get the results of a blood test (as you know I have had bowel cancer) as I like to keep an eye on my CEA level (which is a cancer marker for bowel cancer) and good news, its normal but my vitamin D level is down a bit which apparently is a normal condition when you are a bit older, the Doctor suggested I keep an eye on it. Then I went to the library, saw the Pub was open and thought "Gee, it would be rude of me to walk past and not say, hello" so I went in and next thing there is a schooner placed in front of me, now I could'nt be rude and just walk off could I.Then I went and bought some chinese takeaway, hired a couple of DVD's to watch later and walked home and here I am.:D:D

Yes Jas , will go ahead with the purchase - just got to ring him with a credit card number.

Aus,
Glad to see all the indicators are good:), I have a very close friend that is 4 years and 11 months from a nasty episode. I will feel much more comfortable when that milestone of 5 years in the green ticks over.

I cleaned up my shed today. Wow what a lot of dirt. We had developers next door, last year and they kicked up soooo much dirt. Pulled everything out of the shed and started again. Lots of fun cause I found stuff that was "lost". CB radio, angle grinder, lots of other bits too. :D

I wonder if 24 year old engine oil is any good. Or, perhaps I can just run the diesel on it.:D

At least it has preserved the jerry can well!

Is he a commercial guy or just someone (like Blknight) that just loves free energy....

In my former life I used to just tip it behind the shed - kept the weeds down.:whistling:

I thought about running my old diesel on bio fuel but the CAV pump is a little bit precocious so not willing to risk it.

I have heard that a true diesel owners pour the used oil into the fuel tank!....I like that idea (never had the guts yet though)....s'pose you'd want to filter the gunk out first.

There are other uses for old oil. A guy I worked for in Job skills in the mid 1990's, had a filer set up for filtering old oil. First over magnets to remove iron particles, etc., then though asettling tank, etc.

Then he used it as chain bar oil for his 7 chainsaws.

Sorry to hear that. I kinda hoped there'd be some good news by this stage. Hope it works out OK. I did two half assed re-builds of my old Series IIA before I finally bit the bullet and did it right. Cost me a fortune by being lousy and cutting corners. If I'd done it right the first time I would have saved heaps. That's called hindsight. Any way it lasted me another 9 years after I did it properly; hope you have a similiar result. otherwise buy a D2 and open a brand new can of worms!

He use to give me a tip when i worked at the old SOLO garage on bluegum rd Jesmond when it was a servo now its a berger place. He use to have jag & i would fill it up but i would always put my rag down first so it wouldn't splash on his car..So he gave me a tip, i think it was about $5 back then..Nice bloke to always spoke to me didn't snob me like some of the wealthier people to come in.they all used to come there cause it wasn't self serve i was the driveway attendant..use to fill & check oils pump tyres up clean windscreens,,You don't see that anymore anywhere..

Yeah, Kip drives around now in the latest Bentley.Speaking of working in servo's I did that too in the 70's. One of the blokes I worked for was Don Thomas the Jaguar mechanic when he had the Ampol garage down at Kotara where the bank is now right on the corner in front of KFC chickens. Don used to drive around in a Jaguar E-Type. I saw many Jaguars there in various states of repair. It was very interesting, the Jaguar straight six 4.2 litre motor was a beautiful motor to look at and went well too!!!:D

I used to do that too Jason (only Caltex;)). The funny thing is I reckon I could move more cars through the driveway than they do now. I could have 4 tanks filling at once, check water, oil, tyres, fill the can of kero in the boot - you name it. We got really busy and I could fill 4 cars in a couple of mins. Most people didn't even get out of the car.
Thats when they were called SERVICE stations.

she then proceeded to Light a cigarette, and I came up to the window and said " um, I would suggest you don't do that as petrol is highly inflammable". That remains to this day in my mind, the dumbest thing that anybody can do.:imwithstupid:

I don't know about that,I still have bouts where i think to myself was this the right thing to do.Its hard to comprehend all thats been said & how much its helped me & fatty. My first couple of years on here all i done was read posts.I wasn't game to post anything so many brainiacs on here for me to post up.Plus i didn't realy know what to post or say,The kids & karen got me to sign up for that facebook thing & tonight i got an email saying someone wanted to add me as a friend well it was my best friend in school so i messaged him & told the truth so i seriously doubt i will here from him again. He asked what i was upto & what have i been doing thats why.It seems alot of people read this thread & so many thanked me in the first post its unbelievable & i wasn't going to check this thread after i first posted was very unsure what to expect i realy thought i would be laughted off the site.Fatty seems to notice a change in me . I feel happier more relaxed to talk to people even used the fone & thats something i do not do ,As my voice gets shacky if i get even a little nervous & sometime it can cause a stutter which is real bad because then i cant speak properly & most people just hangup when its happend & don't ring back & i'm to embarest to call back..I'm just lucky use are used to me on here as my spelling is bad so most don't talk to me as they have trouble understanding what i'm trying to say..And threw this thread i have learnt alot from all who post but i have learnt alot about myself & what i am capable of ,Its amazing what a little bit of conferdance can do to ones self asteam. I am realy enjoying the friendships i have gained & want to build on i am determind to shake hands with everyone at some stage somehow. Its funny i get a buzz watching the views go up on this thread & still look forward to getting replys..I even walked to the shop ( i know i said it before) & yes it is only 5 or 6 houses away but i usualy have trouble just to get to the letterbox so it is a big thing for me & for fatty as we went together & i have done it 3 times 2 to the pie shop & 1 to the fish n chip shop just around the corner.Cody has a pushbick that he rides everywhere so i dug out this old one we have so i could do it up a bit & go for a ride with him, that should be interesting.I'm looking forward to hearing about how sleeps outback trec goes as i don't know anyone else who going should be a good yarn, so make sure you get lots of pics sleeps.I envy most of you if not all of you use get to goto work ,I would love to be able to do that, but it never works .I would love to find something i could do from home.Something with my hands & tools ..I recon my perfect job would be to work in a wrecking yard or even beter a landrover yard..I recon that would be heaven..

It's all good mate - we can all see some progress in you and that's a wonderful thing.

I was going to be going on that Outback trek that Sleepy is going on (the club I belong to is organising it) but I have some problems of my own coming up and won't be able to make it - never mind - I am hoping there will be another one further down the track that I will be able to attend.

I'm quietly glad I don't have a pie or fish & chip shop within walking distance - I am a fat enough bastard now - one of those shops would be the death of me! :)

Good on you for thinking about the biking - let us know how your thoughts are going and if you do it.

I wouldn't mind working in a wreckers, either. Only problem I could see is I would want to 'rescue' every vehicle as a do-er-upper :D

Crikey Jase! Is this rear wheel carrier number 43 or the same one still under construction. It'll probably have turned to rust with all the rain you've had.:Rolling:

Deano:)

Jason, If it turn to rust, rust convert it, paint it and sell it on e-bay to Deano, then build yourself another one.

Thanks but fatty said if i cant work it out she just going to get rid of it..
Which sux as she will be using my car even more.

Get it going and get rid of it and use the money to buy Mrs Banjo a good Land Rover of her own so she does not always drive yours. With all the money Ausfree has spent on his Freelander should be a good buy at the moment. :D

Actually I saw a good looking strait Freelander in the wreckers, and reconditioned gearbox/motor transplant into it would give us a good second car, but decided against that idea.

But if Mrs Banjo drives your Series Rover and likes it, buy a second Series Landrover for her to replace the craptota, and get one for Junior to fix up for when she is ready to learn to drive is my suggestion.

Well it should be an interesting afternoon here we have the owner coming over to look at the stove ,He recons its not that bad that the buzzer goes off at all hours of the night.Plus i went for a shower this mornin & when i turned the hot water off it still was as if it was still on so we had to turn it off at the hot water system. My step father has his own bussiness they are plumbers & i worked for him for years while at school & after on & off so yes i can fix it & yes i do know what is wrong with it,its not just a washer the whole spindle needs to be pulled apart cleaned & fit a new O ring & regrease the inside of it all, I have done this i don't know how many times..As for the stove it needs to be pulled apart & have the buzzer disconected & it would be fine, Did i mention its from the stone age. You can buy a small buzzer from any cheap shop for $2 that would be fine to replace it. If he had fixed the stove in the first week we where here & let them know it was stuffed i would of fixed his taps cause the one in the basin is stuffed its seezed.& i dont pay for taps , showers or dunnies i get them off my step father to fix what needs to be fixed..So he can go jump now.
& now that the interest rates have just gone up we are sure we will get a letter in the next couple of weeks to say the cost of living has gone up so our rent will increase as well..
In the last 5 yrs in the old house our rent went up every 6 months so we recon its going to start straight away in this place..

We would love to just sell every thing & travel.Build a trailer first & get one of those tent tops for it.Then just go travel around Australia for a few years. Dont think we could handle the home schooling thow....

Jason, just be careful that you yourself do not end up with the nickname "Fatty" because you eat too much of this sort of thing. Leave some room for healthy fruit and Vegies. Hint, hint, grow a vegie garden.

Moderation in all things is better thinking than most people out there do have.

When it is free or cheap, certainly helps with lowering grocery bills, leaving more money to fix Mrs Banjo's Toyota, etc.

Certainly feed your dog this stuff, and let him get plenty of exercise to run it off.

Well we met the new owner this afternoon & thought we where going to have trouble getting stuff fixed ..How wrong where we the bloke is a realy nice guy & the house is a long term thing for them he was hapy to hear that we where at the old place for 11 years, said if he could help with a garage he would its just they are building a new house at the moment so funds are realy tite for them.So i asked if i could build one over time & he said by allmeans.Said if he could help he would when he can.Was happy that we are looking after the lawn. Was happy we are interested in a vegie garden & told us we could use all the area behind the little shed & if we wanted it bigger just move some stuff & go for it.. So it looks like we lucked in for a change ..I told him that my step father was a plumber & all his family where all in the building trade & that i have dome work for most of them & we would be fixing most things that pop up, He was realy glad that we would do that as it takes some load of him, Plus he said you help us we help you..Works both ways so we where happy he said that..

Hi Karen,
Yeah Dave was a nice guy. I felt I stuffed him around a bit because he tried to ring me about 5 times (I was asleep on the couch :lol2:) Anyway he finally got me last night and he fixed me up.
Really happy with the price as was cheaper than I can get down here and saves me an hour and a half drive. All for $30 postage which I thought was a great deal - he mentioned you too and said thanks for getting him some buisness. (I'd ask him for some more freebies ,......hehehehe)

Anyway I think some of us feel a duty to you guys to prove that life isn't always crappy.:D:D:D

Cheers - I better help dinga clean up - she is giving me evil eyes.

Bye

Hey Banjo
Once that tojomojo is mobile and ready to go.Get fatty to take a drive in an Rangie or D1.
You can get them pretty cheap these days.
Plenty of young fellas will want that gutlux as a first 4x4,so it will have a little value.
