Thanks for asking Mrs HH.
I have been quite busy with uni and college work.
This weekend was crazy weather.
It was below 0 for a lot of it and got some sleet and almost snow.
I have an assignment due at least every week and have an exam on the 3rd of June then I am free for a while.
I still dont know when I will be going to the GC as I have to organise the person to pick up my 80inch.
I got my car fixed, they were very fast which I was happy with and cost $200 for labor+part which wasnt to bad I guess.
I am trying to get a bit more healthy and waking up at 630am most mornings to go for an hour walk which is nice.
I have also trued eating better but is hard especially when so many people here eat bad food.
We get served dinner at 515 so come 9pm+ the hunger sharks are biting again.

Hello Mrs HH,

Thank you for your consideration.

Pop058 (Paul) and I did a clandestine trip to Murgon. The trip there involved an empty car trailer being towed behind Paul's Disco. The trip back to Bundaberg involved a loaded car trailer being towed behind Paul's Disco. More details when it is domestically safe to do so!

I was able to set some priorities during the trip and figured that I will:
1) At my visit to the Ophthalmologist this afternoon I will get the verdict on what options I have to get my eyes sorted out. Namely, new specialist contact lenses or not; No my eyes have gone too far to be able to see through a pair of glasses.
2) Get on the road to being fully sighted again;
3) Knuckle down and finish the PhD; My Principal Supervising Professor stated that I was closer to finishing than I thought I was :D - When I can see again.
4) Look for work straight after the PhD dissertation is placed into the hands of the Examiners.
5) Get one of my Land Rovers on the road - legally registered.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Was at the eldest daughters place today, she informed us she has successfully applied for a job as a Ranger over in the Pilbara near Karather in WA.:)

She is qualified to be a Ranger (no not the type that go around here and book you for parking) and applied for numerous jobs in NSW but because of lack of experience could not even get an interview.

Not to be beaten, she applied Australia wide and scored this job. Comes with a house and her transfer costs will be paid. It will mean she will be in an isolated situation, something like a 9 hour drive to Karather. I hope all goes well for her, so that means my family is slowly spreading with another daughter living in Bundaberg.

Wonder what the youngest daughter will do????Good on number one, Jim. No doubt she will be spending a lot of her time at Karijini, it's a beautiful oasis in the middle of a virtual desert. I'm sure she'll love it. Karratha is quite civilized by WA standards. ;-)

Hello Jim,

Good to hear that Jason is okay - not so good to hear that there Karen is not doing so well ... yet.

I had a job interview for one of two job vacancies with the same organisation yesterday at 1:00 pm. I found out today that I had missed out on both opportunities.

Originally back in early February I applied for a job with the organisation and had two interviews for the role. I was then offered the job informally - dependent upon my three referees. One referee was contacted then did not hear from the organisation for over a week. Then I received a telephone call where they decided they wanted to upgrade the role to a senior one and I had to reapply all over again. I did so and the interview was yesterday.

Within 30 minutes of being told I was unsuccessful I found at least 5 jobs on the internet that are within my skill set to apply for.

When one door closes...

Kind Regards
Lionel

Yep where still here. Where just living day by day..Still recovering from the accident financialy but where still going & theres food on the table & the bills are paid. Our TV blew up so we had to replace it ended up getting finance its a 50 inch a bit big but was a good deal..I feel a little better now still not the best but getting there..

Sorry to hear of your problems.

The concerns with Karen are the new tablets she is on, She doesn't have anything that they are for , There a cancer treatment with bad side effects & we don't know why he has put her on them.these tablets are to replace the steroids which she is weening off now but will take 5 to 6 weeks to do. She has put some weight back on which im glad for though Karen doesn't like it.The new tablets cause week bones which isn't good for Karen as she only has to trip over her own feet & breaks an ankle easy cause of her past dancing. They also cause appertite lose hair lose & that has started for Karen she is loosing lots of hair everyday way way more then normal.he has to have 3 more blood tests she is going to try get one done tomorrow while she is down the road as she has a doctors appointment for me .

I would want a firm diagnosis of cancer before I used pills like those. If it is liver cancer it is very serious. Fell free to talk to me about things.

The medication I am on is getting so hard to get & we have brought up everything we could in Newcastle & lake Macquarie , It took us weeks & weeks to deside & agree to these tablets as most of the drugs for Agoraphobia are very strong & have bad side effects & very addictive so the appointment is to see what we mite be able to change to ..Karen is also still getting very tired & sleeps for about 3 hours a day of an afternoon.. She wont take time off work at all.. She only has to be out for an hour shopping & is buggered. She has had today & tomorrow off as todays job the people are full up with the flue & tomorrow the lady had a cleaning frenzy on Sunday cause she was bored..The tablets are called Puri-nethol that Karen is on..

Ive just realised why I have all the adds & popups I haven't renewed my subscription .. I also have been on face page a fair bit as I am apart of the addmin for a site & page called Prepared Planet its a prepers site , Im not really a preper but I like the way of life as some of the things they do can be put into practice around the house in everyday. Im on there for the survival part & bush craft.. Anyone else here on face page other then young Tony with all his pics of the young ladies he hangs with :D.

On my face book page people put posts from [Prepper pages. You are welcome to drop in to my page any time./COLOR]

Other then that not much is going on here. Oh Karen is taking her new tablets with her tomorrow to ask our doctor what the hell there for..
I know im starting to get tired with fred starting at 5.30 most mornings we wake with her elephatites through the house at 4.30 then up to get Cody up & ready so he can get a lift with Karen to school as he starts at 8 a fair bit .. Then its washing & doing all sorts through the day then getting T.. Im saving to buy a Hennesy Hammock The experdition zip asym..Oh & a warm sleeping bag Then I mite have a nice quiet nite out the back :p..

As for Harry I haven't done anything other then strip one of the new fender doors . I really need to get those front brackets which ive pretty much given up on as ive asked a few people on here that mite be able to help only to never hear from them .

The kids are still KIDS driving me insane .

Isnt that what Kids are for.

I fixed the roof on the shed today as it leaked where the flu went through. Should be all good now . Probably find out tonight with the predicted rain..

The lump on Karens leg from the accident is still there & still tender also still has a very sore left shoulder.

Back on Boxing day 1990, just before Dawn, I rolled our uninsured VW Kombi Dual Cab ute after a front tyre blowout-- had been driving all night with a overfull 6X11 foot box trailer behind it, with the VW Dual Cab also completely full, as that was when we moved from Sydney to where we now Live. After the Rollover our young kids [one year old girl and three years old boy], were buried under a pile of blankets and [COLOR="Red"]blood was sprayed all over the back of the car. I thought the Kids were dead, but after about a minute both started to cry. The blood was our unopened Watermelon which ended up over the VW.

Police said that we all should have been killed, but all of us walked away, an answer to Prayer. Wife and kids were taken to hopital, but were okay when checked and discharged 2 hours later.

My wife had a couple of very tender sore lumps on her leg that took a year to heal, so do not let Karen worry about those lumps-- if they are from that accident,

She also has new glasses as she had to have them tested again & now the left eye had to be bumped up 2 stages so they getting pretty thick. She found a realy nice dear pair of Alex perry glasses in the carpark down the road so she took them with her & had her new lenses fitted to them..Finders Keepers she said.

Hey Jim I asked the Kids about that bus on Mile road last Saturday they haven't heard anything either so they a really keeping it hush hush..We usualy hear just about everything that goes on around here.. Also jim if you get the time could you post a pic of that book Times Past..

Well I think that's everything...

Two famers met at a Clearing Sale, and one asked "Jack how is your son going?" The other replied "He is at uni doing his BS."
Ian answered "What is a BS" as he scraped a cow pat of his boot.
Jack, looking at the cow pat said, well all us famers do all know what BS is.

A few years later they met again, Ian asked "how is your son going."
Jack replied He is now studying for his MS. Ian asked what is that? and Jack Drawled, "MORE OF THE SAME, I guess."

Several years later they met again and Ian asked "How is your son," and Jack replied, "He is now studying his PHD."
Ian asked what is that and Jack replied "PILED HIGHER AND DEEPER."

Lionel, Good luck with your PHD.

Hello JohnF,

I get the "gee" part of my AULRO user-name by extending the first letter of my middle name. My name in full is, Lionel Glenn Evans. My attaching the Doctor or Dr. bit on the front of my name and some more letters after it will happen later on this year.

Hello All,

I went to see the Ophthalmologist on Monday afternoon. I was informed my eyes had improved and I could wear my contact lenses again - as long as did not overdo things and they started to rub again. I wore them on Tuesday okay. Then after a while wearing them again on Wednesday my eyes spat them out. Looks like - no pun intended I will have to limit wearing them to when I have to drive somewhere in town and take them out soon as I get home. It is really good to be able to be independent again and drive myself to appointments though :)

I am starting to sort out getting the new lenses and the first trip to Brisbane for a fitting. It certainly makes you appreciate being able to see properly.

I did not wear my contact lenses today and just on dusk I took the dogs for a walk and I noticed a snake dart across my path. From the blurs I worked out it was a very healthy King Brown and it went across my path less than a metre away from my feet. I was only shod in Crocs and I certainly stopped very quickly :censored:. I think the dogs will be taken for their walk earlier tomorrow afternoon.

Hey Jason I have added you to a couple of other Land Rover sites on FB, hope you don't mind:)

Mrs hh:angel:

No I don't mind at all. I like the buy swap & sell bit for land rovers. We haven't been doing to much lately. We just live day to day at the moment. We have a few issues at home at this time. Not us or kids just finances. We thinking of swapping the disco for a small car as it seems pointless using it as a daily driver we wanted to use it but we both would prefer to go through the week so we are on our own. & we babysit Fred's ferrets every weekend as she is at Sams. So seems a waste running around in it. The cost in the long run with tyres fuel & just wear & tare. So a small car would be much better. Going to keep the gearbox & engine out of Harry & scrap the rest. It's just not getting anywhere & the way I feel about selling things on the forum I'd rather just scrap it. I have been on face page a bit lately I have a lot to do with one of the pages & have been enjoying it. I seriously need an interest outside of building land rovers. I looked at armature radio but that's expensive to get started. Um that's about it for us really Karen is still plodding along weening off the steroids. She hasn't been sleeping as much of an afternoon the last week. We get woke up at 4.30 most mornings with Fred going off to work..oh we had to take our new TV back as it had a line in it something to do with broken pixels. So they replaced it , did that today. I've been learning some knots. I'm very impressed with a knot called a prusic knot. I am going to buy some para cord to practice them on.

Well, my book on Bofors Guns arrived during the week, it is an interesting read for somebody like me who served on them.:) Don't think it would make the best sellers list though.

As a matter of interest I looked up Bofors on U-tube and found this one. Note, it is a foreign version of the Bofors and the control layout is completely different to the Bristol Bofors (English version) that I served on. But still it can wack out a fair amount of lead in a given time. Two rounds a second is a fair amount of lead flying at you if you are in an aeroplane. Have a look.....:)

Jason, if I get down your way [as per my PM] I will show you how to climb a tree, or whatever with a Prussic knot. I did it when younger, climbing cliffs after abseiling down them, [the Prussic knot is around a rope, not around the tree.]

To Prussic this way you need three loops of rope with a Prussic knot on the three of them. Loops need to be different lengths and the right length for each loop.

To join the loops you use either Figure of eight or fisherman's knot. I always used a Double Fisherman's knot.

Well I fell crook again yesterday. But now know why. Should only last a couple of days. Do not use epoxy to seal any gaps on a pot belly stove. I lit the fire again yesdy & cranked it right up & the smell was still there but this time the epoxy was smoking so touched it with a stick it was gooy under the pot belly black paint. I knew it wasn't the paint as I paint the oz pig every year. So cleaned all the epoxy off while it was hot & cooling down. Got it all out & cranked it up again I couldn't tell if it was any difference in it. But Karen came up & said that it smelt like a normal fire now. So will clean it some more & paint with pot belly black.

Around the $5k ish I recon. We spent over that just on the accessories then the price of the car. Plus it comes with 2 extra sets of wheels. Alloys with great tyres & some big ass 15 x 10 rims there range rover rims been modified professionally with 32inch tyres not the best tyres tho.

If that was a defender I'd buy it. I can honestly say I would rather those shapes & the series over the disco.

I agree I like the look of Countys & Defenders, but money was the problem and we wanted something as a fill in car while we organised to get an 4bd1 Isuzu into a RRC. There was an Isuzu series 3 for $3000 that looked Good, but we want a 5 speed box.

We were quoted $2800 for a transfer adapter kit to the
Isuzu 5 speed box and thought that was a bit much. It did not include Gear Change linkages at that price.

So we are still thinking how to do that Isuzu conversion.

I have seen cheap Isuzu Counties in the past, so perhaps one may come up.

JohnF

If its not sold planning a trip to Sydney to purchase a Subaru Forester as a Fill in Car until we get an Isuzu Land Rover.

Give me you number Jason and I contact you on the way back-- assuming she has not sold the Subaru in the meantime.

We're sorting pics of the disco so can do the add on gumtree & that face page buy sell swap for lands. Just going to swap it for a small car.

yes sell it, and get a diesel. Cheaper on fuel. 300TDI 10 liters /100 km. Isuzu 4BD! 10-11 liters /100km.

Isuzu series 3 for $3000 at times.

If you get a TDI put on a coolant alarm. Very expensive if they overheat.

Some guys up our way have put 300TDI heads [about 700 dollars from Britain] onto 200TDI engines and recon these are great. And the 200TDI's are cheaper.

200TDI parts are hard to get. Think they also run 300 TDI timing chain and injector pump.

They claim this conversion is better than a 300TDI.

Do not ask me about the Technical issues-- if any. But I can give the name of one guy who is a forum member.

OK time for a bit of honesty & embaracment .Since the accident we had to take out all the loans we posably could from centerlink which was 3 all up.one on my pension One on Karens pension & one on the family payment , So we are down a tad over $300 a fortnight & the work Karen does doesn't cover it.We have had to change to adapt but we are we now have to pay rent fortnightly as we have a good week & a bad week its just our bad week is really a bad week .BUT the bills are paid & theres food on the table & its surprising how far you can make food go when you have to & theres so many ways to cook sausages :-) .We do pay an electric bill as such we are always in front of it as we have it taken out of our pensions before we even get it & we are quiet a lot in credit.WE are having trouble with affording our medications But we get there.

NOW as for the car neither of us want to get rid of it , its not the fuel cost we are worried about we have had cars before that cost more just to start them its the long turm of it like the tyres there upto $300 each, The green car the tyres on that where over 7 years old as it wasn't driven everyday & there is a chance we actualy mite get to go away ( we where going to maybe go away today for the night but we don't have the extra fuel money for that ) We also have a few issues about leaving the kids BUT would we just want fred to stay at home for the night without the boyfriend but to a 19 year old that's like cutting her throat.

Now Mrs HH has let us know of a car we could get cheap but we don't think we could get the money for it Also V8 Ian has told us of one but again we don't think we could raise the money. the other thing is there in Qweensland & there is noway we could get them Also they would need a blueslip to rerego them here no big drama tho.

Jim rang me the other day to let me know about the car of Carolines & he said if it came to it he could go & get it BUT there is noway we would ask him or anyone to do that & by the time we paid for a flight & fuel back we just don't think we could do it.

See Karen & I are still finding it hard that our FREINDS are concerned & worried about us its just something that doesn't happen to us & we are so used to being on our own & here for each other . Its Hard to except as the only people FAMILY that has , there has been strings attatched & you realy don't want to know about those strings ..

We had a friend lend us a little money & we are finding it hard not being able to pay them back just yet , there not worried about it but we are . There is NOWAY we are telling use this because we want sympathy or help of any kind we just think that with people concerned about us its the right thing to do & be honest with use all.

PS John I will have to decline the visit off you as we aren't really in the mind frame for visitors Karen hasn't had some of her medications as we couldn't afford them & I have very few left of mine & may not even be able to get them again as there is a shortage of them, Karen did get another script for me with some new medication BUT I find it very hard to take new medication because of the side effects & if they make me feel nausea I wont take them as use all know my biggest fear is being sick .

We are fine & coping We have never been greedy people & we are happy with no money . We are not after a free ride in anyway though a lot of people have said that's the only reason I post ed this thread they can stick there heads back up there ass for all I care , we are happy to pay our way to the end & if we don't have the money we don't go don't get or don't do ..we where actualy going to get married we even printed off the forms for notice of marriage but we will put that on the back burner for a little while longer , its been 28 years so a few more weeks or months wont hurt..

Um that's where we are today where fine happy & still living..

PS to Mrs HH & to Ian we are very appreciative of the offers but unfortunately we will have to decline them though Karen loves that car of Ians recons if she ever had the chance to own one of those that would be it .. Smallcars don't intrest me I hate them I feel so uncomfortable in them so will only ever get in one if im desperate :D.

I will PM use both

Ausfree

Jason, my offer to go and get the car was not intended for you to pay for the trip (I'm sorry I did not make that point strong enough), I am quite happy to finance my own way to get the car and pay for the fuel back.

However, you have made your descision and that is entirely up to you and I understand that. But the offer stands, IF you decide to purchase the car, I will pay my own way to Queensland and pay for fuel for the trip back.:)

Besides, I would like to say "hello" to the HH's or Ian ,depending on whose offer you are looking at.

Vickie also has a friend who has updated a car & we maybe able to just have her old car as an everyday car. BUT it is registered but wouldn't pass again without some work. We don't know what it is or how bad it is Vickie is finding out for us. She did say it had a roll bar & some rust in the roof. The only thing we could think of was a little Suzuki but will find out. Ian has a car he could swap the disco for. Mrs h has a cheap car that could be a great everyday car for Karen. We are looking into seeing if we can raise the money.

Jason, I only read your post declining my visit today. I tried to visit you on Sunday, but spent an hour driving around [in the Subaru my son had bought, and that I had picked up for him in Sydney] trying to find your place then gave up. I was sure I could find it again, and recognized one place on the way to it--was a passenger with Karen driving when I last visited. At about 2.45 PM I was driving away from your suburb back towards the highway. and passed a Yellow Series-- and it looked like you driving it. But could not do a U turn to catch up and say hello.

I do hope you are both well, John.

Well, Mrs Aus is going to have some work done on her jaw. She has suffered migraines for years and her GP has referred her to a Oral and Maxifacial Surgeon and what he has discovered through X-Rays is because she has put up with ill fitting dentures over the years her bottom jaw is out of alignment so she will have to have an operation to remove some teeth have some of her jaw bone removed to realign the jaw.
Then have two implants put into her bottom jaw to support a new and properly fitting set of dentures. We are not privately insured so the cost is well north of $6k. Luckily we keep money aside for emergencies so we can cover the costs.

Spoke to my tax agent and he said I would be entitled to a tax refund on any medical expenses over $2,500, for the financial year, so as I have also spent $1,500 on my teeth this year we would qualify.

The Surgeon reckons, because her jaw is out of alignment it could be causing the migraines. Lets hope he's right.

She has the operation at 10.am on Thrs June 19 and I will take several days off work.

Hi Jim, Sorry to hear the above :( You may or may not be aware that I had a very serious bone disease in my jaw, luckily it wasn't cancer. My dentist put me in touch with a private practice who quoted me $78k to put right my problems

I took a friend's advice and went to the "Dental University" who agreed to take me on at an estimated cost of $55k :)

To cut a very long and painful story short, I had to have all but seven teeth removed, 5 bone graft operations, $20k's worth of titanium bolted in, and new teeth made and fitted. Between start and finish was probably two and a half years, as you have to wait up to three months between bone grafts. I opted to be awake for most procedures as I could not afford to be knocked out :D It's been a long journey but the end result is worth it.

Your tax agent is correct I claimed back 20% of all monies paid, luckily for me I managed to split it over three tax years so I didn't lose out. If you pay tax and your wife doesn't you can make the claim on your tax return for her. Make sure you've paid enough in the year to get the full rebate ;)

I'm not sure if two implants will support a full denture though  I have six implants on my upper jaw to support twelve teeth, you might want to check that out.
If you have a dental university that is local or nearby to you I would certainly go and get a second opinion from one of their professors and possibly a quote, they are the experts and only use the finest materials.

Good luck Mrs Ausfree, you'll be fine :)

G'Day Jerry. By the sound of it, your dental work was much more extensive than what Mrs Aus is going to have done. Here is a piccy of what her bottom gum will look like. I have decided to call her "Fang" after the operation. Remember Phylis Diller (the American comedienne, with that terrible laugh) used to call her husband "Fang":)

Dad was burning the bamboo and she got stuck in there and dad didnt realise and didnt think anything of it as she has been in there lots of times and got back out.
she was about 10 years old but still had plenty of go left in her.

get her to do an online course as self improvement. I learned a bit of Hebrew from a free online Hebrew course-- could be other languages, or any other courses--I am sure there are lots out there.

Was there a subject she wished she had done at school??? Study it now

I am in the RFS bush fire brigade. we have some online courses for members.

Or she could become an expert on something like

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rathmines-Catalina-Festival/137100446395385

or Archaeology of Egypt, or something else.

Yeah, thanks for that John, she is actually doing a course over the internet to get her nursing qualifications higher. Her computer has crashed, would you believe a family of geckos set up house in the case and completely ruined her computer. It is only 3 years old.:o

Well a bit better this morning . Went out yesterday after sitting around thinking about it while waiting for Karen to finish work. Then felt a bit uncomfortable while out. Joined the new library. Had a big greasy egg & bacon roll when I came home. Must of went through me & then that made me stress. I hate my mind so much sometimes. Feeling a bit better though. Slept in today haven't been up long. We haven't been sleeping to well either of us & it's starting to catch up with us. We are up from about 4.30 every day with Fred cause she gets all the early starts. We don't get up but she wakes us up then can't go back to sleep. Ah well will just wait & see how I feel as the day goes on.

I hate going out late. I've always been one to go out & do what ever has to be done early in the morning that way I can work on the car. But not much has happened in that department for awhile. Though I am getting bits sanded slowly. It's getting to cool to paint so not sure what I'll do about that yet.

Hello Banjo,

No worries - it is a shame they were not the parts you needed.

Maybe you could contact the seller and see if they have the radiator brackets too? They probably were scrapping a chassis and might have the parts you are after.

Oh the cats not desexed so I'm not allowed to throw it outside or snap it's neck. I have been working on Harry all week. Should have some good surprises for everyone in a week or 2. Ill be shooting primer this week with any luck. Then on goes the colour. I seen some realy nice rims & tyres on the Landry buy sell swap on face page. Pop was saying that some range rover alloy wheels fit. I've never tried any. But thinking I mite try the ones off the disco cause I like them & I recon they would look good on Harry once all painted.

Yeah. The problem I have is once I have primed all the panels I have to find somewhere to put them where they won't get scratched then once I spray the colour the same thing only more so. A scratch it the primer is ok to fix but not in the paint. I think I'll will get another one of those portable shelters from super cheap as the last one I got from there lasted the longest. I have some star pickets I can use to hold it down instead of the pegs it comes with & when Karen went to the camping show a couple of years ago she brought some good rope so can tie it down better to. Though I really don't want to bolt all the body work back together & on the car with out the engine in place cause it will get scratched up. Happened on the green one.

banjo
14th June 2014, 09:00 AM
Apparently I'm quiet fussy after I've painted panels. Plus this one is one I've always wanted. A V8 series & it's got the 5 speed plus the defender doors & it's getting air on & maybe even disc brakes. So want this one to be done really nice. I may after this one is finished do a series 1 but I think I'll give the series 1 guys a heartattack with what I'd do to it. Put it on a disco chassis :-).

Oh dear i think this is going to hurt...Where to start
Well i have been on a pension for a few years now because i have AGROPHOBIA servere panic disorder.i have trouble going out to the point where i have locked myself in the bathroom in colds sweats with my heart in my throat thinking i would passout or pee or crap myself..i also have done this when i have had people coming over to visit or in this case (people offering to come & help )..it has ruined my life & my immediate family (wife & kids)..you know we used to go up to our local bush (hillsborough ) when we had a nissan SWB kids loved it but it sometimes could take me an hour to get there & we only live literaly 5 min drive from it..
its been realy hard for us because our families think its a big joke .they seem to think its funny to take the micky out of me ..but 27 years of abuse mentaly, physically, mentaly sexualy..
So i dont deal with people to well cause if i have to leave or (hide)as such they dont understand so we just dont do it but its now realy taking its toll on the wife & kids..
we had to file bankrupt a few years back now & the way this rover is going it could send us there again..wife (karen is realy worried )
i had a friend who i used to do stuff with because he didnt care that if we where going some where if i needed to turn round & head for home he didnt say anything i would just settle myself down & then turnround again & keep going & catch up to him & this could happen a few times before i got there & sometime i couldnt get there but he was ok with it so we got on real good but he went & died on me & i have taken it hard & since then i havent been able to do anything realy & we used to go bush alot just for the day out to sugarloaf & out the back of glendale & up hillsborough man i miss those days we all had fun me the kids & wife plus my friend..we used to work for ourselves i am a diesel mechanic by trade havent touched tools since i done my trade 20 years ago but we used to wash & grease trucks that kept us going was good money cause we used to do about 20 trucks a week..
Now the best i do is going down to the local shops again 5min drive away but i do go for a walk round aldi the cheap shops & the paper shop gotta get me rover mags..but this rarely happens .karen does all my running around picking up parts & the like..
i seem to get on better with woman the shrink says its because most of the abuse i suffered was from my father..
hence the reason we only see a few family members ..
we thought it bout time i told use as we have had offers of help with the car..
dont know how i would handle it..but if it wasnt for karen i know i would be dead she saved me..
the best thing so far is my kids..
& i have to say i have never found so many people to offer to help when they havent even met us ..thats cool.
i can only hope that when the car is sorted i can get some part of our life back & start going back to the bush...
So we would like to say many many thanks to everyone who has offered to help...
Not trying to be sobby just thought if use new the problem it mite make it easier to understand why i cant except the offers of help but i (we) really appreciate them i dont know how i would handle people here for the time it could take...
THANKS Jason & Karen..

Well, I have brought "Fang" home from her operation. It took about an hour, she is watching TV at the moment nursing a sore mouth. She has that many different types of drugs to take (painkillers, anti-inflamatories, mouth wash, antibiotics, etc) I said she needs one of those "Webster Packs" they give old people so they remember what drugs to take and when.:)

She was awake during the op. and she said she could feel them cutting and grinding on her bottom gum.

She didn't seem as bad as I would have expected when she came out, but I guess as the afternoon wears on and the numbness from the needles subsides from her gums, she will start to feel sick, sore and sorry for herself.

Goes back on Friday week for a checkup and then she has to wait a couple of months with no bottom teeth until her gums heal properly and then she will be measured up for a set of dentures that fit properly.:)

My thoughts are with her Jim, as you know I've been there, done that and got the t shirt ;)

Without going into too much gory detail, what did they achieve today ??

Jerry, they removed one tooth, cut her gum open and ground the bone level, placed in the two metal locating pins for her new dentures, then stitched everything back up. She has to go back for a follow up next Friday and have the stitches removed.

She then waits for a couple of months until her gums settle down, then she gets fitted with a new set of dentures.

She has just got out of bed and her face is puffed up, you wouldn't believe.:o

jerryd
20th June 2014, 07:38 AM
The gums will heal very quickly, the stiches are a "pain" to have removed though ;)

When I had my top jaw done they fitted a temporary denture, which also acted as a healing denture to protect the gums. Certainly not a pleasant experience :censored: but the end result is well worth all the pain.

tell her to keep eating the jelly and custard :)

Well the disco died this morning. Wouldn't start. Turned over fine. So checked for spark that was all good. Then I realised I couldn't hear the fuel pump pressurise itself. So got the manuals out every manual told a different spot & a different colour for the relays so I gave up on that. Still haven't found the relays for the fuel pump. So I checked the fuel pump for voltage. There was over 10 volts so it was getting power. The battery was worked hard a morning trying to start it & test things so I recon that's why the volts where down. Anyway so waited for Fred to finish work & went & got a new fuel pump. Starts now. But we have to put Karens specialists appointment tomorrow off till next week or the week after on our good pay week. $200 for the pump & seal kit. It's done now. This pump it quieter then the old one so I didn't think it was working. But it is. The old pump read just under quarter of a tank of fuel the new one says it's empty & the fuel light is on so Karen just ran down the road to put the last $10 in it. She just pulled up so car is still going. So have no idea which pump reading is correct. Karen just said it's working she put the $10 in it & it now says quarter of a tank. So I guess we will just have to see how it goes. She is going to work tomorrow now to do the job she was supposed to do today plus pay rent & get some groceries.

Yeah your right. I'd hate to know the final cost if we had to pay someone to do the job. Karens getting the ****s with the staff at all 4x4. Karen told them what we needed yet they insist on telling us to check this & check that. Karen said um yeah we already did all that but it could be this or that. They look at her as if to say yeah right like you know what your on about. It's all the new staff. We usually just deal with pommy dave as he knows if we say we need this part he knows that's the part we need. Then says to any other customers that need help with there series he says you should go see this lady's husband he will tell you what's wrong real quick. I gave up using the manual as it was just confusing us & making me second guess what I thought was wrong. Karen gets into arguments with the new staff when they bring her the wrong part so she tells them it's wrong go get another one. When she proves them wrong they look at her sideways & treat her like crap. She's over that. They go threw new staff up there all the time. Anyway the car seems fixed now so that's all I care.

The daughter up at Bundaberg is not happy at all. Her leg is still not healing properly (been 3 months now) so she went to Brisbane for another opinion on whether to have a plate put in her leg.She is getting frustrated with the senior doctor at Bundaberg Base Hospital. He doesn't want to put a plate in.

The doctor at Brisbane said "no" we recommend you put up with it as putting in a plate is a last resort. It is healing but very slowly. They have given her another "special boot" to wear and when I was talking to her yesterday she said at least she is out of the wheelchair and getting around on crutches.

Hello Jason and Jim,

Eyes are still the same. I start the process of getting new lenses in Brisbane next Monday, the 30th of June. I will be measured up for a new set of lenses. So trip one of four return trips will be taking place. So one step closer to rejoining the world of the sighted :).

I have been recovering slowly from some fever like bug over the past two weeks. So I have been a bit quite and been on a couple of courses of antibiotics. I am on the mend.

Thank you for your concern Jason and Jim :) Jim I hope your daughter's leg picks up its rate of healing too.

G'day Ian of the V8,

My good wife, Leeann and I will be stepping off the Tilt Train at Roma Street. My specialist is on Queen Street in the old T & G Building. The appointment is at 1:00 pm. We are then catching the Tilt Train at 5:00 pm at Roma Street to wend our way back home.

We are also trying to catch up with our two Brisbane based children (Adults). They will try and fit us into their hectic social, work/study life :p At this stage we do not know what our exact timeline is yet; apart from the train times and the specialist appointment.

This will be one of at least four train trips to Brisbane Ian so no doubt we can catch up at some stage.

Hello Ian,

I am not sure when the second Brisbane trip will be - it involves factors outside of my control ...government departments and such. The first trip is when Leeann is on holidays. Third and fourth trips depends on when the second trip is and specialist's availability. I had thought I would be fully sighted by August - now it is looking more like September.

Our son lives North-side and works in the city; daughter lives South-side and goes to University of Queensland. Our middle child - son, lives on the flash Gold Coast!

Especially with my eyes being on the blink since April. Another assistance has been doing some blind tinkering on my Land Rovers.

How many times are you placed in a position doing work on Land Rovers where you cannot see your hands and go solely by feel anyway.

So thank you again Jason and other contributors to this thread and being able to keep in touch with fellow Series 3 owners, Holden Powered Series owners, SLOw members and General Chat people & Military Land Rovers - Leaf Sprung. Oh and "Other Powered Series Land Rovers. Thank youse all :)

This afternoon I had a quick one-eyed squint on an internet job site today and I discovered a bevy of jobs I can apply for. Some even pretty closely related to my PhD studies :) Others that are even here in Bundaberg.

Now, is this just pure coincidence that when the wheels start to creak towards getting fully sighted again that jobs, which have been few and far between, have started to appear?

I am probably reading/squinting too much into it?

Anyway opportunities are better than nothing :):banana::banana:

G'day All,

I am back home in Bundaberg after a trip to see the contact lens specialist in Brisbane yesterday. :)

I had an extra appointment that involved wearing a set of trial lenses and wearing them around the city centre for an hour. I then had my eyes tuned to get the correction established so I can see properly. I was then taught how to insert and remove the new style of lenses. My old lenses only fit over the coloured part of my eyes. The new lenses are much bigger and close to the size of a domed 10 cent coin. Get a 10 cent coin in a mold and then clobber it with the ball of a ball pein hammer and you will have a close facsimile of what the new contact lenses will be like

The benefit of the new lenses is that they are supposed to be dust proof and I can go swimming in them. With the old lenses if a speck of dust blew into my eye it would make a beeline for the contact lens and then lodge between the Rigid Gas Permeable or hard contact lens and bit of grit would start cutting into my eye. A speck the size of a pin hole would find me trying to claw the contact lens out and hurt like hell. It also meant that 15 years ago I had to leave my chosen vocation of horticulture because avoiding dust and dirt is pretty hard in the work environment of parks & gardens and landscaping.

It was windy in Brisbane's CBD yesterday and with the trial lenses I could look into the wind and not worry about a speck of dust blinding me.

The other good thing was that I found out that I could get the contact lenses posted to me - so one less trip to Brisbane.

The extra time around the hour trial and the how to wear lessons pretty much chewed up the free time I had in the afternoon. Leeann and I got to see - squint with our daughter for lunch and when I found out I had the hour extra time at the specialist Leeann caught a train so she could see our son before we had to catch the train from Brisbane.

We broke the trip home up by getting off at Nambour and spent some time with Leeann's brother and his family.

So it was a worthwhile trip and I got to try out the new lenses that I was told should last between six and eight years.

Once the lenses arrive I have to wear them for six weeks then I will be back to Brisbane to make sure that the lenses and my eyes are compatible. During these six weeks I will have to build up from wearing the lenses for the first time from half an hour to being able to wear them for the whole day.

There you go. One step closer to being sighted again :)

Kind Regards
Lionel

Terrific news Lionel :D

G'day the Ho Hars,

Thank you for the best wishes, one step closer - not quite there yet though. Yesterday provided the last piece of the complex puzzle before I can start the official process to gain approval for the cash to pay for the lenses. It may be 4 -6 weeks between my lodging the forms and the powers that be providing funding approval. Nothing guaranteed however I think I can present a convincing case. Then when the approval comes - cross fingers, it will take a week for the lenses to be made. They then go from the manufacturer to my specialist and the lenses get checked. Then they get posted out to me from Brisbane so probably two weeks after the order is placed I will begin the process of building up wearing the new lenses each day. From half and hour to 12 hours over a number of weeks.

Yes Banjo it was good to see almost properly again even if was for just one hour. :)

I had an email waiting for me at home from one of the jobs I applied for asking me for what was my first preference for working for the company. I know this means absolutely nothing however it does show they are expressing some interest in me ;)

Gee once the lenses have arrived I will have to hit the ground running as my PhD ground to a halt on the 28th of April.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Well been pulling the sheds apart today. I've moved all benches to the outside walls now ..I've started to pull the centre wall out so I can have more room. Since it's 2 sheds joined I'm going to have to brace it at one end as the other end still has a sheet left in each shed. So there's a small wall between the benches. Has opened up the shed tho so I have more room to move. I just want to get all this body work done & paint it all. Then have to find somewhere to store it all.

She tried for several Ranger's jobs in NSW but couldn't even get an interview. She has the qualifications but no practical experience, so when this job came up she applied for it and against stiff opposition from other applicants, she got it. It will give her much needed hands on experience so if she wants to come back, she will have a better chance of getting a local job.:)

The long drive for her hubby is not a problem, they have a Toyo Prado and a caravan which they used on their recent trip around Australia.

Mrs Aus is coming along fine, the gums are slowly healing and she is gradually moving onto more solid food. She is getting sick of soup and stuff. She has another appointment late next week, to check on her progress.:D

Hello All,

I have three job application "acknowledgements" sitting in my Inbox after spending part of yesterday and the majority of today applying for three vacancies.

It should be interesting what blazing errors and minor stuff-ups dwell within the applications since I cannot see properly. The applications even had the pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey type little boxes where I had to fill in information - now that was fun - NOT

The applications were those start from scratch and answer 7 Essential Selection Criteria and 7 Desirable Selection Criteria.

One good thing about all the jobs is that at least they clearly state the pay rates. Unlike most of the Community Sector based jobs. Also all three jobs are research based and in an area very, very close to my own postgraduate study and research interests.

Well I am now going to do some blind-mechanics on one of my Land Rovers to prevent me from going :wallbash: I think I have already done enough of that today while applying for jobs.

Oh well cross fingers. It is just like the lottery; you have to be in it to win it.

G'day Ausfree,

The acknowledgements were the good old robot-driven auto responses. They are to let one know that the application has bounced itself to the right place in the electron jungle.

Today sometime before 11:59 pm is the closing date/time for the applications. Well at least I think it is because the site just said closing 6th of July and no exact time given.

At least the applications were completed and sent. Yesterday it was hard to get motivated and I went for lots of walks around the yard. I frequently said rude words before I got up off my chair to go for the walk

It's funny about jobs. I don't think I have ever filled in an application for a job. Just rang & booked an interview time. I guess I am one of the lucky ones when it comes to finding work. With all the jobs I have had up till me doing the trucks. I've just walked out of one job straight into another.

I hope it all works out for you Lionel.

On the other hand I've finished removing the central wall in the shed. And I may have solved the storage problem. I'm trying to get another chassis or if I have to another complete car. I'm going to cut the centre of the chassis out & put some heavy duty castor wheels on it. So I can put the body on it once I've painted it all. That way I can build the car in the shed & finish off the wiring everything on the cab other then the guards bonnet & grill. Then I will do all the brake lines on my chassis so all I have to do is lift the cab off cut chassis onto Harry's chassis all done. Mite need a help for that or I maybe able to use the hoist. Will have to wait see. & wait see if I can find something. We found a complete car on gumtree for $500 Ono but don't know if it's a long or short wheelbase. It's in Newcastle so we emailed them & just have to wait to see if they get back to us. If not we will txt them as we think there was a mobile number in the add. I'm still tinkering in the shed cleaning up & finding spots for everything it's nearly all done then into painting. But I thought the chassis idea was a good one. Anyway will see what happens.

If you need a hand Jason, as long as it's not really heavy lifting, let me know. Only too happy to help. Unfortunately, my back is not the best (two pinched nerves) so I can do light to moderate lifting, if I'm careful.:)

Well that local Landy has been sold so on the look out for a chassis or complete Landy.
Karen found out she still gets her supplement payments so should be able to get ahead of things now.

Hey Jase, walking back to work this afternoon, I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked into the carpark and saw a..........

YELLOW

FJ HOLDEN:eek::eek:

It belongs to one of the Shift supervisors and he has owned it for ten years. He tells me it's all original with the grey motor, 6 volt electrics and cross ply tyres. It's a 1953 model Business Sedan.
I asked him what's it like to drive on crossplys and he said "all over the road".:)

I mentioned to him to give me warning next time he brings it in as I want to get some piccies.

Gee, it brought back memories of my first car....a 1955 FJ Holden Special Sedan.

I was weak at the knees.:p

Hello All,

The journey to being fully sighted again has had its ignition key turned on and the accelerator pedal has been lighted tapped. I placed the order to have the new lenses made with the contact lens specialist this afternoon. They then place the order with the manufacturer. Once made the lenses get sent to the specialist and I pick them up from there.

A slight change of plans from my latest trip to Brisbane on the 30th of June when I was told that I could get the lenses posted out to me. The receptionist was adamant :twisted::twisted: this afternoon that I will have to travel to Brisbane to be fitted with them. So back to having 4 return trips to Brisbane.

Hey, at least the first leg will be the only one where I am not able to see properly! On the return leg I will be freaking out at being able to see all the texture and colour in the world again. Being able to see correctly is really very data busy.

Within the next 2-3 weeks I will receive a telephone call and be informed of my next appointment in Brisbane. :) I will keep you all posted.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Hello Ausfree and Pop058,

Thanks for the big print you blokes. It makes it easier to read. :) It takes up a lot of space though. I can squint smaller print okay. As long I get up close to it.

Now what were my last words in the message about ordering the contact lenses this afternoon... "I will keep you all posted" :D

Hello John,

No I cannot wear glasses because my eyes are beyond the scope of how glass lenses can be ground.

What I have done is placed the order for the specialist Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses that are my only option. The contact lenses have to get manufactured.www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/rgps.htm (http://ccs.dogpile.com/ClickHandler.ashx?ld=20140711&app=1&c=info.dogpl&s=dogpile&rc=info.dogpl&dc=&euip=123.211.62.20&pvaid=cb72bf1274554901b65d078a6aabc8ea&dt=Desktop&fct.uid=49161d318ba97f67%253B%2520__utma%253D7&en=0WEFU%2fZhSoQrR2QhC9ngyiLWjD1jFApuD%2bA8y%2fAiI z1wW%2fgzy%2bNk0g%3d%3d&du=www.allaboutvision.com%2fcontacts%2frgps.htm&ru=http%3a%2f%2fwww.allaboutvision.com%2fcontacts% 2frgps.htm&ap=1&coi=771&cop=main-title&npp=1&p=0&pp=0&ep=1&mid=9&hash=9BF19FC85C853DF4CF0C09D76ABB13DC)

It may take a couple of weeks before I can see properly again. Plus a trip to Brisbane. I will then have to build up wearing them from about half an hour per day and steadily increase over weeks before I can wear them all day.

Kind Regards

Lionel

Hello All,

Here a description and some graphics about the type of lenses that are hopefully now on order About | Scleral Lens Education Society (http://www.sclerallens.org/about)

It took over one week to get a written quote so I am a bit skeptical about the order being placed yesterday or today like I was told.

Fingers crossed anyway that some efficiency made it into a certain office in Brisbane today.

Ironically, if these lenses were available 15 years ago I would not to have had to leave my trade. My bank balance would look a damn side better than it is now and has been for more years than I care to remember. I got my tax return from a job yesterday and the on line payment summary showed 4 years of my working for the same mob. The total of those four years would not have come up to the amount I got in one year working in my trade - with a 9 day fortnight!

Kind Regards

Hello Everyone,

As much as I appreciate the large fonts if I get up close and personal I can read the normal font with my left eye. I have to keep my right eye closed. Using the normal-sized font will save page space.

Well Karen brought herself another little car. It's a gold 1992 model Subaru like old one but not lowered has standard mags. It's only got 2 marks in the paint other then that it is immaculate condition. Went through the glove box yesterday & found all the paper work on the car since new all work done all services. Even has the original owners manual & the extra original service booklets. It's perfect inside. It's automatic drives perfectly even has a tow bar. Thenaircon works awesome only just been regased. It was advertised for $1600 then he had it the next day for $1200. Karen messages him said she give him $900 cash. But when she got there said oh it's auto it said manual in the add. So she said I'll give you $700 cash & turned to leave & he said $800 so Karen said yep. He was leaving the country the same day it was Thursday. Just in the right spot at right time. It does need a wash though. I'll take some pics tomorrow & post em up.

Yeah it will be. Plus it's an auto. Karen rang the specialist the other day we can't get into there till the 19th of next month. We going to get another blood test before we go there as Karen is getting very tired again & is feeling nauseas every day aswell.

I went &:twisted:brought a new vice cause I had to finally throw the old one out as it broke again & just couldn't be repaired anymore. I also got the wheels & the metal to build a centre bit of the chassis so can put the body cab back together in the shed on it. I nearly finished it. Should get it all done tomorrow. Having trouble with the wire feed on my new mig welder it loose rest feed while welding the wheel slips that pushes it. I'm using .8 wire so I'll try some .9 tomorrow see if it feeds that better. Oh yes it's the right size on the wheel for .8.

I just drove Karens car. The first time I did drive it was to put it in the yard. & I noticed it had a slight slip. Just took it up the street therea slight slip in D. But when I came back to park it I put it in R & hit the accelerator pedal & there's a big slip in R. Bugga. I will check the fluid in the trans on the weekend hopefully it's just low. If not I'll check the filter if it not that then the bands will need adjusting if not that then the valve body is stuffed. But Karen says it's fine when she drives. She is very weary now since the accident & has slowed down somewhat. So should be ok till I check it out.
