Shifting camp tomorrow, over night stop at Williams to catch up with the master (landyandy), then on to Albany for some time, might see if there is a bit of work there for a while, top up my bank account (only earnt about $1000 since chrismas) now that seems really good money, thats about $125 a week. Met Andrew last night along with his very patient wife deb, tryed a home brew and had an inside barbie (got a bit late). Deb makes a wonderful potato salad, yumoh. Andrew's son Lyndsay has taken on a little job for me so I can relocate my HF auto tune ariel (wife is sick of looking at it on the bullbar). Would love to have Andrews workshop on a trailer behind me but the disco struggles enough now.

Well i have been a bit quiet of late I have been busy with house & kids as Karen is now working 5 days aweek..And yes Karen & i have had our ups & DOWNS since i have been back but we are together & happy...

A few months ago i mentioned my best mate i met online & he has helped me pretty much since the start of this thread like other here & if it wasnt for him i'm sure i would'nt of made it home nor would i have got through the time i was away..
We txt each other everyday & speak to each other over the fone sometimes.. I call him MONGREL & he calls me MONGRELS INC .

I know all about his family as he does ours ..

I have been nervious for the last month since i found out he was going well out of his way just to call in here & meet me & Karen & kids ..
He lives in the northern Territory & has family bissnuss to atend in Adalaide but flew into Sydunee & jumped on a train to newcastle ,,That was friday just gone & he got off the train in Cardiff Saturday morning so Karen & i picked him up ....

Now i was so nervious cause i thought he was staying with us so i was so so nervious but he booked a motel as he new how bad i was ..
We spent the last 4 days just hanging around home just catching up & yaking bout all sorts of things LOTS of landy talk ..
Jim (Ausfree) called in on saturday to meet him as yes like i said once before he reads this thread & forum & yes he is a member..

Outside of Karen i trust no one But have learnt to trust people since starting this thread & have made friends all over the place & world..
But i do trust this person alot & after the last 4 days alot more ..
I (we) Karen & kids have had a ball its the first time ever we have spent this much time with anyone at all ever & even FRED liked him so much she was herself around him which we have never seen her do with anyone she hasnt met before without knowing them for a very very long time so i knew this was a good thing..Even Cody hung around to be in the conversations & was asking so many questions to him ..

My mate left today on the 2 oclock train back to Sydunee then to fly down south to see his family & atend some bissnuss then back home to the N.T..
We will be visiting him & his family in the future up there but we will be driving up..

I only hope he enjoyed his time here as much as we all did ..He did get to go out a couple of times just down the road but Karen took him to Glendale yesterday as he needed to pickup something & he & Karen went out for lunch as i had already made mine LOL..Karen was able to finish work a little earlier today so we could both take hime to the train station & see him off...

We grabbed a couple of pics before he left today..He is the UGLIER ONE.:D.

Well seeing banjo's not talking I will give an update on my good self. So been in Albany now for nearly a month. Nice spot, a country city if there ever was one. On my second job, first was meant to be for 2 days, labouring on a construction site, well spent 3 days there and probable could have had 6 months or more. I have never seen such ineffecicies before, I walked about 5 to 10km a day with very little work in between, things like the toilets were about 100 meters from the crib room but to get there was about 500m walk. Anyway that seems to be building in WA. On thursday I start as night manager/ security at one of the caravan parks which comes with its own accomadation, so will park the van up for a while. Now my wife got a job when we first got here but only started yesterday due to a long delay in getting her police check. Been going for an odd swim at around 6.30 in the mornings and its suprisingly pleasant. The old disco seems to have settled down and is running sweet again
so thats me for now

Well i finaly got out & worked on Harry today..

I went for a day trip on saturday Karen & i went up to mums to drop her computers off to her since she cant drive just got out of hospital had both her knees done replaced or reconditioned, stayed for a couple of hours then came home, We usualy go up & stay a night or two but had a run in with the kids big time so just Karen & i went up, was good now i know i can do that with out any trouble..

Stuck at home for the next couple of days cause we brought a camping fridge/freezer & it should be here in the next couple of days they say..

Also brought a 3 meter X 3 meter garden shed so we now need to get some pavers or bricks to put in on..
Have also thought about using pallets to put it on & then use marine ply as a floor but only on the inside with the ply so it shed sits very snuggly over the ply, Not to sure yet..

So thats about all we been upto had fred home today with a cold flue..& its now raining here most days yay not makes it hard to work on Harry plus i want to put me shed up its inside next to the back door still in its boxes..
Also been looking at getting a shed to work in harvey norman have a shed which is 3meters wide & 6meters long it has 2 doors at front & can fit a car in also has a side door & gable roof ..Made out of same stuff garden sheds are but with more bracing so hopefuly we get one of those to....
The garden shed is big enough for me to put benches in & still put all my tools in & still be able to work in there..& the big one is for Harry..They will be side by side for easy access to my tools & i wont have to completely pack up as i can leave tools in with Harry & just down tools & lock up ...

Darwin is already drying out. The Wet over here (we are further east of Darwin than Melbourne is of Adelaide :eek2:) is a month or so later.

Our rain also lingers longer due to the fact we are on the edge of Arnhem Land and the Dry season winds come off the Gulf so we get the later rain.

Things dry out pretty quickly so by mid-June the road should be open.

We all had a good time & enjoyed our selves well except Fred she hated it..Friday night when we all went to bed Karen laughed her head off for an hour or more we asked whats wrong she would say THIS IS FUN IM EXCITED & it was..for most of us anyway...

I got up for a leak friday nite & for some reason i has a panic attack so i sat up till i cooled down took some deep breaths & settled meself down took about half an hour & i then went back to bed i was happy i dealt with it myself & didnt wake Karen up. I think it was just cause it was a differant place at the time & its not like you just jump out of bed & flick the switch for the light Had to climb my way out of bed its quiet high. where going to look into things for that maybe a small 2 step folding ladder.Karen said she had the best sleep in the camper & we where all worried about her as Karen LOVES her mod cons but she loved it in the camper & camping as such...
We gained what we set out to do with the camper & that was to see what we needed & didnt need we now have a list of things to do & to get for it now..
Oh yeah it was fairly straight forward to put up & down & didnt take to long But that time will get better as we go..
I was stressed the whole time cause of Fred & her patty trying to make us feel bad cause we went away ..Cause i been trying to make everyone here happy since i came back home ..Plus we pack quick as Karen worked & both the kids desided to just sit on lounge & watch me try & pack everything cause we dont want to go away ..But Cody loved the camper & camping in it he was keen to get the fire going so took a wheelbarrow & got as much wood as he could find & started to use the axe so he loved it..
So thats what we did this easter weekend..
Karen said we mite put the camper up & down a few more times in the yard & that we should sleep in it while its up so i get used to sleeping in it & i agree plus while its up we can sort out some stuff & set it up as if we where camping thatway when we use it next we will know what goes where & what we need . And i mite not be so STRESSED next time ..

Andrew

Had the thermals on a couple of times, this sub 30 is no joke, talking to an elderly lady down the beach the other week when I was down for a swim and she is about 70ish and swims every day of the year and was really embarresed she wore a wet suit, but she did say only in august. Had the thermals on a couple of times, this sub 30 is no joke, talking to an elderly lady down the beach the other week when I was down for a swim and she is about 70ish and swims every day of the year and was really embarresed she wore a wet suit, but she did say only in august. Started the new day job in the age care home as project manager/maintance (more maintance ATM but plenty of sorting out to do later) anyway, its nice and warm in the building which is where I am spending most of my time ATM.

Hi Jas,

Long time no type.

Well I finally (after 12 months) went and bought a new PC. :D. It was kinda nice giving the interweb a break for a while. Occassionally posting with my phone but that was kinda annoying. I have been watching (lurking) and keeping an eye on here though. That camper looks cool. Especially sitting behind that green beast of yours.
Well in the last 12 months I sold the S3 and the S1 - I just wasn't finding the time to work on them and felt it better to move them on. Still got the 90 and Dinga has her Disco. She wants to sell it cause the V8 is a bit thirsty. :(
I even thought about buying an FJ Cruiser (but dont tell anyone here;)) I just cant bring myself to sell the 90 though. Its just such a fun car.

Anyway, I will be posting more now and look forward to catching up.

Say hello to the crew.

I missed your posts.:D Please post again and often and also on the Pommy site as I am a regular there as you know!!:) Visited the Guru (Banjo) today and had a look at the progress on "Harry", had a look in the new shed and I tell you what, I am impressed, given the difficulties that Banjo is working under, he is doing a good job. The shed is neat and tidy and set up like a proper workshop (which it is) and I am constantly amazed at Banjo's knowledge on LandRovers. Keep it up mate!!:):) Great stuff, I can hardly wait to see "Harry" presented to the public in all his glory when finished!!:D

I was looking at Vplates.com.au - Custom Plates by VicRoads | - Plate Styles (http://www.vplates.com.au/plate-styles/) one day and just stuck in the letter/numbers and pressed OK and they said the plate was available. (I would have thought some Series 1 nut would have grabbed it.)
Anyway when I had my Series 1 I was going to transfer it to that one but sold it before ever getting it registered. So the 90 is now the owner of them.

They cost a couple of hundred. But only a one off fee.

HEY BANJO! Put that land rover down and come and post!:p

Na not cleaning & painting today been busy cleaning old holden engine parts & landy parts out for the rubbish colection it starts on monday in our area.Plus we cleaned out old trailer & went right through the house & ended up with about 4 or 5 box trailers full worth....

I did keep all my s1 parts & rare parts that are hard to get ..

found another swivel while cleaning out old parts but no brake drums:(.

I got some disco s1 rims for Harry well 4 anyway have to find 1 more then i'll get them modified :D..Going to run 33" tyres on Harry so they close to the originals 7.50s so they tell me..

Seen aus the other day in his bright yellow bus down at warners bay Karen had to go down there so i took her & went for a walk in the shopping center to the bank & the paper shop & my favorite shop yes optus lots of phones. Then went to other bank to pay rent while we where down there.

Karen wanted a couple of tattoos over the last few weeks 2 butterflys one on her hip & the other on her wrist. did one on her shoulder blade a while ago its a couple of roses with a heart at the bottom with 2 banners through it which she wants to put the kids names in them when she desides on a design or style of writing i should say.

Karen & I have been getting on real well she loves her gym & loves her work & the time away from me..
We have be enjoying a can of black douglas scotch & coke each after tea..

I now have both legs tattooed from my toes to my groin i've been letter karen have a go at outlining & colouring she's getting better just a little heavy handed still & puts the needle in to far & you certainly know she's there. She has also had ago on my hand but the vibrations that go through your hand as u need to put the needle deep there as the skin is harder but she says that , that just feels so weird....

..

So we all had a good day out & it was a day of firsts for me as use know i wont go out after eating. Well we got henny penny chicken on the way back to mums & had a big lunch & we desided to come home in the afternoon so i ended up driving home on a full stomach & even stopped off at my cousins at Wallsend on the way home & i got out & went in & we stayed for about an hour so that was real good for me anyway..

But to top off a great 2 days when we where leaving we packed up & was just leaving when Cody said wheres me school bag as we picked him up & went straight upto mums & when we got there we said leave it in the car as you wont need it..Well we couldnt find it & thought well he must of got it out & left it inside but he went & looked & couldnt find it still so we left & Graham My stepfather said if we find it ill drop it off tuesday going to work so we left..
Well just about to pull out the driveway & i opened the center box between the seats & stuff was missing ..Some MONGREL BASTARD got into me car at mums threw the night & took Codys school bag as it was a brand name bag & went threw the front box & took a tin of mine that had fuses & some spare accelerator springs in it ..Must off been kids to take a school bag & they would of shaked the tin & thought YAY money .HAHAHAHA dumb arses..Funny i looked on friday night to make sure all the doors where closed didnt worry about locking it as the house is well off the road & in the ritzy part of Thornton even Bob Brown the polly lives in the same street a few houses up.. But we think it mite of been the young kids across the road..So that put a downer on our weekend even tho it wasnt anything big that they took but like Karen said the little bit of money we had left we where going to buy some fire wood on the way home & get the keg going & just relax for the rest off the weekend but couldnt as we have to replace Codys school bag & all his stuff in it pencil case & all the stuff in it a pair of safety glasses of his & some books.. Ahwell not to worry..

GEES i hope so..I already made 2 mistakes on harry one in the swivels now rectified & one on the engine i ordered standard piston rings as there are no markings on the pistons at all then when i checked them in the bore the ring end gap was huge ..So had to measure the bores & pistons to work out how far it had been bored there 60 thou over.. Well yesterday turned out to be a good day was working on Harry painting & cleaning then Karen came home from work after picking up the new piston rings YAY so after we had lunch i went & fitted the rings all was great & i put them in the block with karen giving me a hand & we got em all in & was fine. Then when we went to tighten them up it all started to turn to **** big time , Did the front ones up & SNAP they broke before i even got to the 35 lbs WTF so i did the rest & the number 5 bore did the same WTF..Wen took the piston the the engine shop to get it measured with microters they said GEES ya barrings are in real good nic are ya sure ya needed rings & thats what i thought thats why i used them again..The only thing i can think of is that theres something wrong with the barrings as the caps went on quiet easy by hand so i dont think there was any squish as such on them & they where just steal on steal so that caused them to break..

Now yes I'm a diesel mechanic BUT im used to working on detroits, Cummins & volvo engines not small car engines But i know enough to get myself outa trouble , I would rather crawl over a truck or huge dozer then any car ..I feel at home with a big diesel..

Now today Karen took my car to work about 20 mins after she left she rang me to say she was bringing the car home cause its not running again WTF ..Its like its running on 4 outa 6 cylinders. so wen karen came home i moved harry around so i could put it up there aswell ..So i jumped staight onto the ignition thinking well that has to be it , NUP cleaned all the plugs & the dizzy cap none of which wherent bad at all bugga all build up on plugs or the cap.. So wen i started it after cleaning them all up it was worse & theres a knock coming from somewhere but i doubt it would be the main or rod barrings as there where all replace as there was a huge knock in the engine when we first put the engine in so we replaced then with brandnew ones only to find out it was the oil pickup getting hit by the crank or one of the rods cant remember now.. The oil pickup is broken in that the little bolt on the side that holds it still has broken , not the bolt but the bracket from the pickup..We should never of registered the car with that engine as when we did it we where worse off with money so had to use what we could find.. Now the bolts that hold the clutch onto the flywheel wherent very good but with burring the threads on the bolts & using lots of locktite they have stayed there..
Now i know or knew i would have to replace the clutch & flywheel at some stage..At the same time Harry needs a new clutch completely aswell as trying to sort out the con rod bolts snapping..
ITS like Karen said we are at breaking point we have gone 2 steps forward only togo 50 backwards..Everytime something does finaly go right for us IT turns around & bites us in the ass bigtime..

So im ready to completely get rid of them both now & just get some cheap small car crap thing..
Karens job was to only be 2 maybe 3 days aweek but its turned into 5 days & its not what she wanted & was going to finish up once harry was a bit further done & just keep her cash jobs which would be 3 days a week..

But as it is now we now have one good car (green one) & 2 ****ed engines & a car that runs out of rego in about 4 weeks & wont get past again nor do we want to get it past as it is completely stuffed & would cost so much just to get it past..All 4X4 are going to buy it off us when it runs out..

So i recon the last 2 days have been probably the lowest for me in a very long time ..

So anyone wanna buy a couple of series landys..:(:(:(

banjo
28th June 2011, 07:10 PM
Now to top off a couple of bays..With me being on the pension & Karen on the carers pension , Karen gets a one off payment every year of $1200.
We where going to use that to get the transfer highway gears for the green one as it will be Karens everyday car for work & we where hoping to go away a bit more once karen finished work so we could take advantage of heading off mid week so the cost of staying places is nearly half..
But not now it all has to go on a new flywheel & clutch for green one & clutch for harry & to sort out what wrong with the green one aswell as the troubles of Harry's engine..

Karen is sick of everytime we come into any amount of money that we have to use it on cars , & i honestly agree with her..
Karen said its just like before living day to day again.
Karen feels ****ty now cause we get just under $2000 a fortnight but most goes on bills .Specialy now our rent has gone up & the groceries have started to cost us close to $300 a week & she tells me usualy daily that i'm the biggest expense in the house as i SMOKE ..I told her the other day THE DAY I REGISTER HARRY IS the day i QUIT..

But the bills are starting to get bigger now & the kids eating I swear the both of them have a tape worm a mile long they must be feedin..
Ahwell its just life i spose..

G'day Mate,
Yes its life alright. Some days good others crap. You know the cycle.
I had a crap day too. I had to make decisions that effect someones future.
Very big responsibility and I hope I did a good job.

As for the Series. If you gave up smoking tomorrow you could pay for most of your bits.
I used to set dates like that (I'm still on the fags too) like , "After I get my new job", or "after christmas", or "after my holiday", or "during my holiday".or after any day ending in Y........

The way I see it, dont get ****ed off with your cars. Get ****ed off with those stupid cancer causing, coffin nails that cost $15 a packet, $100 a week, $5000 a year. And kill you after that.
Dont set a date just pick them up, and throw them in a bucket of water....(yes I have retrieved them from the bin too).

Sorry I am not just talking to you Jason, I am talking to myself too. Its a ****en discusting habit and its killing us both.

OK that's found you $100 a week,

Wow that was a bit of a vent .....sorry;)
Good onya mate....do it when you can...give the stupid things away.

Well today has been better all bar the filthy headache ive had all bloody day..
Well went & looked at the green one today started it again & still the same so the fairies had'nt been..
So gave it a compression test the front 2 cylinders where at 170psi
The 3rd & 4th where at 165psi & 150psi
& the 5th & 6th where at 160psi BUT the 6th one was a mystery as there was no reading at all, HMMMMMMMM..
So did a wet test on the last cylinder & still no reading at all..
Took the tester out & used my thumb over the plug hole & theres a very faint suck , blow there..MMMMMMMM
OK so i gets a screw driver to see where the piston was & it was sittin at the top so i says to Karen just give the key a kick lets see if it moves & yep its moving..
So i put the plug back in & said to karen turn it over & i felt all round the back & sides of the head to see if it was a head gasket could'nt feel anything so did the same again but with a little oil aroung the head & no bubbles..
So off with the tappet cover to check out all the valves & valve train & all looked good.
So asked Karen to turn it over & all valves are working fine .
So off comes the head tomorrow & the sump to change the piston rings as they are the only thing in the engine i didnt change when i built the engine. So i recon the rings are completely gone on the rear cylinder & wearing on the rest SO i'll replace them with a new head gasket & sump gasket & all should be fine & dandy & back on the road..Well a week from thursdy wen i get paid again YAY..
I will also check everything else while its apart but everything else should be ok as its bandnew only didnt change the rings.. So that should fix it..

Hope you are all well.
Had a drive of a 101 today. :burnrubber:What a lovely vehicle. Soooo much fun to drive to. Much easier to drive than I expected, once you get used to the weird position of the gearstick.
Gone a little cold on the idea of buying this one though because it is a little too expensive for me. After all you cant really use it as a day to day vehicle so it is a bit extravagent for a toy. Still I can now say I've driven one. What a sound, sitting on that V8:twisted: Really nice bloke too. He had his defender, Freelander2 and the 101, another tragic!:lol2:

Well, Banjo proved again what a generous, giving bloke he is. The brakes on my 2001, FL1 were squealling slightly just as you pulled up. I took the car to a "mechanic" who worked on them and replaced the shoes on the rear drums. He said the disc pads on the front brakes are fine, plenty of meat on them.;)
The brakes continued to squeal and on mentioning this to the "mechanic", he said yeah, no worries, next time you wash the car give the front brakes a good squirt with the hose to clean it out, should fix the problem.;) still, no improvement, cost me $405.10 for a brake "fix"
Rang Banjo (the Guru), he knew what the problem was and I went over to his place and he spent over an hour and took off the front wheels, took off the disc pads, roughened them up to get rid of the glazing on the pads and sprayed a "no squeal" liquid on the back of the pads and replaced them.Problem solved.:D
Banjo refused any money for his time and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him very much!!!:D Much appreciated mate and Mrs. Aus thanks you too because the squealing brakes annoyed her very much!!:)

Na i dont mind helping where i can.I did'nt do much today.I should of told Aus to bring his diff oil & engine oil & filter & we could of done those..The brakes where easy just squeeling from vibration..The origanal backing on the pads which is a rubbery like tape had worn off or fell off , I just cleaned them up deglazed em & put anti squeel on them & swaped the leading pads around..Was no dramas at all i like doing it & its great to be able to help out when i can..

Might stop in and get power steering fitted on the way home!!...>Oh Jason?

That would be good if you could find another pic Mrs HH, I keep recycling the same ones.

Yeah, Mrs Aus said they are still squealing occasionally but not as bad as before. Let it go for a while and see what happens. If it's still squealing when the service is due, I will redo them, now I know how!!! Thanks again Banj!!:D

Yeah, well it will get Victorian Plates:p Not sure whether I get personalised.
Although I notice ZZZ101 is available!!! (And if you are out there in intenet land DONT STEAL MY IDEA!)
Been thinking of a new name. Swamp Rat doesn't quite do it for me. And some of the those stickers may get "peeled".

So, hey, maybe my fellow embarassments could help me with a name.

I have thought of:

Marvin (You know the little Martian dude)
Baby Huey (I could use my HUE166 plates of the Def)
Booger (That was Dinga's suggestion - gross!)
Snotty ( Ok that's enough Mrs Sleepy!:nazilock:)

OK, back to plan A Mrs HH and thanks again for your old fashioned QLD hospitality. :D I think I will stick with the original plan.

We still can have a catch up somewhere.

I was studying the Map and I think I will do Nerang to Grafton - and then grab a motel there. (250km) should be able to knock that off in 3 hours or so.

So if I can be out of town by 5-ish.....

So if I get the car at 3 or 4 ish (how long does it take to buy a 101....lots of stupid questions.) that gives us time for a meet ....you'll be sick of me after an hour anyway :p

I am still having trouble getting out of my shift on Thursday so probably best that I keep moving.....

So , Aus and Banjo, will be (ok let's make that "should be") there Tues arvo-ish.

Sorry to muck everyone around , you have been all very generous and welcoming.

Lot's of "ish" and shoulds in this plan, mainly because I will be in an umfamiliar vehicle so not really sure how fast I will feel comfortable at.

I am planning on a 90kmh - which is faster than the 78 Diesel!!!
