IMHO it was the best they ever built..I love the shape of them..& the HR was the first holden to have seatbelts fitted as the standards where all changed in 1966 the same year as the HR..

Ausfree
23rd December 2012, 06:28 PM
Yep, the HR was another goodun' I remember trying to buy a HR second hand back in the 70's, they wanted $1500 for a goodun' and I couldn't afford it , so I bought a HD with a 149 motor for $1290.:D The HD was in top condition and it served me well, but it doesn't compare to a HR!!:D

23rd December 2012, 06:44 PM
Mate, my first car was my favourite, had it for nearly 10 years, it was in immaculate condition when I sold it (needed some work on the motor) and I regret it to this day because the new owner flogged the daylights out of it within six months of buying it, I literally cried when I saw it.:(

What was it............It was an FJ Holden in a two tone green colour........boy I wish I hadn't sold it. But, I needed money to buy the HD!!:)

Ausfree
23rd December 2012, 07:01 PM
I eventually traded the HD in on a Holden HQ Station Wagon, terrible car, I finished up writing it off when I went to sleep out near Toronto and went of the road, rolled it and wrote it off, lucky I wasn't killed, I was knocked out and when I recovered, I crawled out through the windscreen. The HQ was upside down!!:)

banjo
26th December 2012, 09:53 AM
I can honestly say none of us here ever rearly like or enjoy Xmas..Been like that for every. The KIDS are the ones that have missed out the most cause its been like it since they where born..ITS just OUR families.Cause to all of our families mine & Karens I DONT have a problem its just all in my head & im just all full of bull**** theres nothing wrong with me..So we hate this time of year..When we went to the funeral & i said that i was fine & if my father started anything i was going to finish it no IFS NO BUTS..
He is the sort of person who would start something at a thing of importance. He would get you a side & say stuff then get you so burd up so you say something or go off THEN he would go back to everyone & say **** dunno whats wrong with him only went over to say G'day..He make himself look the best guy in thw world to everyone else..When i had my 21st birthday he put on a surprise party (which i knew about) then probably halfway threw it while karen & i where siting there eating he came & sat in front of us with his plate mind you he was ****ed before the party started well he lifts his foot & puts his heel in me groin not hard & probably just mucking around (in his mind that would be mucking around) WELL i said hey be frigging carefull well that was it he threw his plate FULL of food all over the table where they set out my pressents & covered everything in food & knocked a candle over which burnt what was'nt covered in food.THEN said get outside so we goes outside so he can realy abuse me & had me in tears while some people where still turning up then he gets me inside & keeps going & keeps going on about how i would'nt work in an iron lung & wanting to belt the **** outa me .Then we could have a beer he used to say..Karen & i where to be MARRIED a few months after & had put our deposites on all the stuff for the wedding & reception well after my 21st Karens family which where at my 21st said well if he's going (my father ) then we are'nt which i cant blame them..Well use all know me buy now & i dont like crowds & i realy dont like speaking to crowds well that didnt matter he MADE me make a speach to everyone there ...GGGGRRRRRRRR

When the kids where young he expected us to still run after him at Xmas .& to me it was easier for them to come see the kids as we would have to load the kids & there prezzies in the car & unload them everywhere we went so the kids could show off what they got like most kids want to .Well i thought it would be easier to just have the grandparrents come to see us as they only had to get themselves in the car PLUS i have 2 sets of parents to go see plus Karens parents..Well that just wasnt on he was to good for that..

Its funny i am the only one who doesnt go see him & i have the problem BUT he still gets everyone to run after him & they all do then complain about it.& its even worse with him now he has cancer (mellinoma) he dieing every year for the last 10 years so he now gets step mum to ring everyone aw it could be his last Xmas so everyone runs to him then after xmas by mirrical he's still here & doing fine..

They dont ring us anymore. But **** i tell ya he has a good winge about us , so everyone says..Funny thing is no one ever says anything to him.No one said anything to him at my 21st while he was going on & abusing me..

I remember we used to invite em over for T sometimes & there was this time they came over & Karen went to heaps of trouble for T got all the stuff he like & spend most of a day arvo prepairing it , they turned up & didnt even end up eating as he got the ****s with one of me step sisters & threw em all the the car & said **** this where going home..Karen was dumb founded as she had cooked so much food that he likes to eat & we had all this food left over , gees the dog ate well for a week..
Like i said we moved out at 18 i still felt i had to run after him for so long & would go there every day to every second day till i was about 27..
This is what he carried on like for all my life till i stoped going there..When i said i was moving out i remember his exact words aslong as its not that bitches idea he said..
I wrote a mini off & was sent to work with broken ribs .When i got to work the boss said hey wheres ya car i told him what happed , he said go home ya not working & posably hurting yourself more & then need compo..So they took me home in one of the trucks when it went out on a delivery. So when i gets home he says what the hell are you doing home so told him what they said to me & so on..his words where well the bitch aint coming over while ya off then..
Hurt me back once at work cant remember how wasnt seriouse but but told to take a few days off..He went right off again over that , but it was fine to help him pull a gearbox outa me sisters mini..
I remeber buying our first car together Karen & I. well i brought the car from a caryard near his work But i didnt trade my car we just brought it..So when i picked it up i left my car at his workplace so he could drive it home as i had to pick him up everyday anyway..well that went down bad as i brought a car without him knowing & i left him my car to drive home.& we only brought a peice of **** anyway we was told for ever..Then when i was selling my onther car an old AP6 val. i was working on my sisters car with him & i sliced me finger bad enough to need stitchers so Karen i headed to the hospital to sit for ever to get it stitched up , Well that didnt happen as he rang the hospital & they told me i had to ring home so i did.He said where going out & someone rang about ya car so ya better get home to show em..So we left no stitches..

Karen was the one who diognosed my problem after ready a big story on a lady who going threw the same things as i was suffering. The docs didnt know what was wrong with me for some time they thought it was ullsors & my oldman said there just worry ullsors youll be fine..Then when my doctor diognosed me with agoraphobia my oldman was bull**** its all just in ya ****ing head theres nothing wrong with you ..

So yeah we hate this time of year bigtime..Worste part is our kids have been the ones who have suffered the most as the parents wouldnt come at Xmas for ages , now they do but the kids are grown now..

All the parents thought the same as oldman as he bashed it into them aswell..

Ahwell thats just our ****ty life.Everything is going down hill for us at the moment & have had a lot go wrong for us in the last couple of months & seems to be getting worse everyday..
Mostly having trouble with the owner & the realestate . Thats one of the biggest reasons that the wagon had to go .I would of loved to keep it..

Ausfree

I hear you about your father, Jason. Mine was the same, liked to sit on his "Golden Throne" and have everybody run after him. After mum died in 1994, he got worse and then he moved in with another woman and I did not see him from 1998 until he died in 2007. I couldn't put up with it any longer.

We didn't even know he was sick in hospital and we only found out he died the day after his funeral when there was a small funeral notice in the paper. None of the family were at his funeral (sad really) and to this day my younger brother and myself have not visited his grave. We have NO intention of ever setting foot inside that cemetary again. I might add, that if he had phoned us to say he was very ill, I would have visited him, as my personality is vastly different to his, I am more like my mother, and boy did she have some crap to put up with from him, including bashings in the 1950's and early 60's.

So mate, I hear you loud and clear, remember you have your own family who love you, Karen and the kids, I am sure will support you through the good times and bad.

Don't forget you have your good mates on the Forum who are supporting you all the way.........I will get over to visit you as soon as I get a chance.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND KAREN AND THE KIDS!!:D:D:D

That's what I am trying to impress on Jason, I too had a rough upbringing (Mum was great, despite what she had to put up with) and what I am trying to say to Jason is,"life goes on, live it, you only get one chance, the past is the past" as you know I am a lot older than Jason and I have managed to create my own life with my kids and grandkids and extended family.

As Jason grows older and his kids grow up and have kids of their own his father's influence will gradually disappear into the background and become of no importance any longer!!!:D

Shade shelter security So i can work in all wether..I HATE siting around.I think to much if i sit around..PLUS with some new tools i really cant afford to have them stolen..Id spend 7 days in a shed if i had one & i could work till late like i used to..

hypothetically speaking here, but lets say you had a 2 bay garage so you could be there all the time, if you had the opportunity to do basic services for people would you do it?

I do that now when i can weather allows it..Had a Mazda astina here a couple of weeks ago.Wasnt driving in any gears I couldnt fix it, it needed a complete box (auto) so they got ATS to get one & fit it..I do that as much as i can..I only charge people the cost of parts or the fluids needed no labour..

I adjusted the brakes on the green car today as they needed it..Also belted the driveshaft loop with big hammer Ballpein where the shaft was hitting..Karen went down the road then called in at Betty's a couple of doors down from old place..So i ended up driving there to check brakes & drive shaft..Well i gotta say those springs (parabolics) Are great love em.Brakes are still a little squeaky so will have to look further..The drive shaft rubs hits the loop still & worse under brakes, So i'll have to cut it so it does'nt hit..BUT the parabolics are great .noticed as soon as i drove out the drive .as its steep it clunks with old suspension these are quiet & soft ridding..Also i went the long way to Bwtty's so it was'nt just a few hundred meters down the road ..Was more like a double figure 8..Cause i wanted to see how the para's went round corners..

I used to do full services at the old place.did body work aswell.I had regular people who came to me for the service & others for panel work. The only thing i dont do is timing belts as a lot of cars need special tools to lock things in position..ON older cars i would with chains not belts.I did lots outa that crapy garage..I used to do all of old Toms services on his car & his daughters.& lots of people from the kids school use to come to me aswell as there families..Used to do small welding jobs for most of them.not always on there cars. But there trailers..used to do small spraypainting for them on touch ups..anything really if i could do it i did it..

Well, Mrs Aus and I spent the day helping our youngest daughter move from one house to another. The daughter and her partner are renting a place over at New Lambton, not far from the Lambton pool. An old place, but it has been done up, the owner has spent close to $100,000 on it and it looks very nice inside and out.:D

Being an old bloke I am now "pooped" to say the least after lifting, fridges, washing machines, clothes dryers, lounge suites, etc, etc, etc. Just as well there were some younger blokes there so I could "supervise" later in the day when my "puff" ran out.

Mrs Aus, helped our daughter with the crockery, cleaning up and organising us "useless males":bangin:

Mrs Aus will be back tomorrow, to help with the clean up of the old digs, I will be back at work!!:D:D

How did you get on with the noise in your car..

Jason and Tony, It was the front transfer case output shaft had come loose, and when removed had to be replaced as badly worn. They also reckon that the transfer case needs to be stripped down and overhauled, but they wanted an extra $1000 to do that so it can wait, my mechanic said he could do it for much less.
Anyway, alls good now and will get me home.

Had a great catch up with all you guys, must do it again someday.

Yep....261 actually!!! Give me time Tony and I will feed the appropriate ones into the system. Be careful with the Logo idea if you are going to use the word AULRO, you would have to get Inc. approval on that.;) I would suggest get agreement from fellow "Embarrassments" and maybe have a Logo with the words "LandRover" and "Embarrassments" somehow worded (I don't know how, maybe the LandRover Logo, but making it obvious we are LandRover enthusiasts) and the names of the "Emarrassments" who are supporting with a donation to the cost of the T-Shirt.:D I would be happy to contribute, provided all approvals are granted.

By all means contact Inc. seek his approval or otherwise if you want to use the words "AULRO".:D

Buggerall Landy stuff happening here - I have been working 7 days a week since September - even worked Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Took New Years Day off, though. Took today off, too. You'll see why in a bit.

Thanks for the Christmas card Jas - much appreciated.

The Aussie Bride had a wheel bearing go on her crappy Citroen - God I hate that car. I managed to get the wheel bearing sorted - the cheats way - the bearing is pressed into the rear brake drum - so I bought another drum with the bearing in it and just threw that in.

Coming home last Wednesday night I felt the engine nip up a couple of times on the Disco. Looks like I ran out of water - I found a pinhole in the top radiator hose when I looked on Thursday. It had been rubbing on a power steering pipe. I noticed the replacement hose has a webbed cover around that area - maybe there have been a few of these mishaps...

Let me tell you - that top hose goes all over the place - strangest hose I have seen - and the bottom connector is a real pig to get to. Finally got it done and just put water in it for now. Took it for a ~13km run in the heat of the day and the water level didn't drop any further. No white **** in the oil and the inside of the oil filler cap is not looking like the top of a cappuccino. I'll take it in to work tomorrow and see how that goes. If it's all working without leaks I will drain and flush the cooling system out and put in some new OAT fluid I have here - maybe next weekend.

Well, I have to say this...YES and NO......the body is a lot stronger with no aches and pains etc when you are younger......but experience and lifes adventures mean a lot when you are older than 60.:D

Now,,,,,if there was some way you could join the two up!!!:p I might mention.....without the aches and pains.
