Now that is as good as any incentive to stop smoking :)

Boy, I'm glad I don't have to do all this. I am a life long non-smoker and I believe giving up smoking is one of the hardest things you can do. So my hat's off to anybody who has the willpower to permanently stop smoking!!:D
Way back when I was 21 I started smoking because a girl I liked smoked. And thought it tasted terrible.

Then 3 months later I started to enjoy smoking.

So I decided that now is the time to quit or I will be an tobacco addict all my life, so I quit there and then.

As a volunteer I have helped run the “5 Day Plan to Stop Smoking, which is where I learned the info on how to stop smoking that I posted, this being the most successful ever plan to help people quit.

The five day plan had a 80% success rate. Those who failed were usually those who went to the plan meetings because Wife/Girlfriend wanted them to do so, or they drank, etc.

Do what I did Jason, don't smoke indoors, stand outside in the freezing cold dressed in t shirt and shorts when you want that cigarette, you'll soon want to give it up ;)

Yeah, Carolyn, his funeral was today and I would have gone to Sydney for it, except for Mrs Aus's colonoscopy. He was a loverly bloke and we did have a couple of coffees and chats together down at the Elermore Vale shopping centre which is next to his daughter's place. He will be missed!!:(

Yes he will be missed.. he used to call in here when he was staying at his aunty's . She is in her 90s & brian used to stay with her at her place in one of those home vilages (Van park thingy). That was be fore his daughter moved to Elermore Vale.Brian stayed at his Aunty's to make her home brew for her. Used to tell us all about it & how she was going at her age & still liked her home brew.Brian was a kind person & a gentleman all the time..Yes he will be missed..We called brian the big fella around here , If he rang to say he was calling in i'd say to everyone the big fella's calling in..

I am back in singleton for about 4 weeks.
The university thought it would be good to move my prac teaching forward to the 5th of august without telling me.
I start on the 7th though due to illness and finish on the 20th.
I hope to make a trip or 2 down to newcastle after that time and before I go back to college(I cant wait).
Still do not know when we are moving as things seem to be going a little slow at the moment but I will go to my dads tomorrow and start packing things up and I really need to go through my ex's stuff and send it to her.
Also my dad bought a puppy at my college auction for charity, it is a male border colliexblue cattle dog.
I will see it for the first time since it was at college tomorrow so looking forward to that and fingers crossed I may finally have another story to tell tomorrow night or maybe monday depending on the internet.
Hope all is well with fellow embarrassmentees :)

And finally I picked up my s3 I drove it home no worries so far the only things that need fixing is a parking light and the dash lights.
The brakes are good and steering could be a little better but is still pretty good so I am hoping I can get it registered for a certain trip in october and if I could get it for another certain event in september(unlikely though) that would be awesome.
It is a 1979 swb s3
all orginal except for vaccum brakes, electric brakes, radio and maybe the door handles on the inside.
Came with all paper work. 1 owner :) and has 44,000kms on it but the speedo cable is not working very well so the previous owner thought it could be about 80,000kms

Spoilsport. :p

I prefer my version. Being a very British car, instead of just firing you through the roof, a butler would climb out of the glove box, hold the door open and politely ask you to leave.

Then again, being a Land Rover it would probably misfire and drop you through the floor.

Very clean looking S3 though. Very nice indeed.

LMAO when I was driving it from my grandparents to my dads place i came down the first hill passenger door came flying open(note to self make sure door is shut properly before driving). NO NO NO NO Its the black Subaru that may have a leak somewhere around the master cylinder NOT THE DISCO.. The disco has a spongy pedal & id say there air in them. So if theres air in them then theres a leak BUT its defantly not the master cylinder or the valve thingy . My guess is one of the calipers are leaking & may need to be rebuilt. At the worst it could be a pipe buy highly unlikely id say its a caliper somewhere.. So YAY 6 months rego tomorrow or tuesday as it doesnt need an inspection as the last own must of only put 6 months rego on it himeslf & a PINKSLIP last 12 months so i dont need one YAY YAY YAY..

Well i we put 6 months rego on the disco yesterday.. Also i think the problem with the brakes was the handbrake may have been stuck on, but there is air in the brakes so will flush & rebleed them all.. BUT i took out a whole heap of wires that went nowhere got a bucket full. they where from an old aftermarket cruze control didnt work anyway & all the others where from an old alarm from the look of the plug at the end of them.. Then i moved the disco up onto the slab so could start the brake bleeding.. Didnt happen while moving it by the time i did the 10 point turn & got it on the slab there was SMOKE pooring out the dash.. I broke the fusebox cover trying to get it off in a hurry to take out the fuse i replaced the day before. Wasnt that fuse that caused it but it was the last thing i did so pulled it.. Waited a bit then started it again & still smoke.. Turned it off again.. waited & just turned the key to on & yes smoke.. Was coming out of the vents. So under the dash i went , Still couldnt find anything wrong.. See all the vents are sealed so that the AIR can flow through them So i couldnt work out how it was coming out of the vents.. Well they are sealed except where the blowers are for the air con & heater. So today i got Karen to look under dash on passengers side while key was on , No smoke but hot wires , so i started the car & gave it a couple of boot fulls & YES we had smoke. theres a plug there thats getting hot & theres a few relays on the kick panel on the passengers side to one was getting hot. So i started the car agin & i got on the passengers side floor under the dash & got Karen to rev a bit finaly i got some smoke ,, I think its coming from above the 2 blowers.. So looks like i will have to pull the whole dash out to find the cause.. I cant go threw the glove box to get to them like in the latter 2s as i dont have a glove box so the dash has to come out so i can see whats going on up there & try & fix it so it can be driven.. While moving the disco to the slab there seemed to be no trouble with the brakes other then a bit spongy pedal.. BUT the dash is a worry..The suspension is cactus the rear shocks just flop around. Need to replace the snorkel as i we can get booked for the whole in the gaurd GGGGGRRRRR.. Seriously needs a bullbar to.. We also have to find the whole floor carpet & get some new mats.. I guess it will be a work in progress. Lets just hope i can get this SMOKEY dash fixed before the rego runs out or it will have been a waste of money & time.... I do like the car tho.. It is the original 3.5 not a 3.9 Dunno where the last owner got that it had been changed from but it hasnt .. Needs a good tune up as the engine is a little smokey . New plugs maybe some leads & clean the throttle body out a bit & see what happens..Ill have to put the alloys on it . They are smaller but have great tyres although they look CHEAP & TACKY. . . oh yeah the front drivers side tyre is slowly going down i noticed today aswell.Oh & we need to replace both head lights as they are very rust on the inside..Cant think of anything else except that BLOODY dash smoking up bad.. Its driving me crazy its so hard to get under the dash in these things.. The green one ya just undo 2 big screws & pull the dash out.. The instrument cluster anyway..

Yeah ya could be right. BUT i have to sort that bloody thing out.Well its not smoking under the dash now BUT that doesnt mean its fixed I'd say the wire causing the smoke has burnt right through so now i have to take the whole dash out & find the wire & where it goes & why it shorted enough to burn.. And i realy dont want to do it at all period..I think if i new this thing was going to be like this i would of just used the money & built Harry a year ago. I think i hate working on any cars so much cause of this house with no garage.I do not enjoy working on cars anymore at all & its probably only because of this crapy house..

Theres probably a lot of other reasons aswell..

JohnF
23rd August 2013, 01:20 PM
The suspension is cactus the rear shocks just flop around

So you probably can get second hand shocks from someone who is wrecking one, or doing a body lift. That is what we did. Hint, the RR classic suspension should fit, and a RRC can be very cheap. Know of complete registered ones going for only $500, so it should not cost you much for a suspension.

Need to replace the snorkel as i we can get booked for the whole in the gaurd GGGGGRRRRR..

I have seen homemade snorkels made from guttering down pipe, or made from exhaust Pipe. Should not be hard if you can borrow a pipe bender to do the bends. One that looked good to me was a strait section of stainless steel pipe, with down pipe plastic bends for the curves. If you use all down pipe it would be much cheaper than exhaust pipe/metal pipe. Or just make a vent to cover that hole where the snorkel once was—this vent does not even have to work, and a plumbers plastic grid with fly mesh underneath would probably do you to cover that hole and look as if it is deliberately done. Or get a sheet metal grid, cut it, and weld or pop rivet it on. Or just aluminium fly screen and a ruber on the sharp edges. No one restores a disco to look original.

Oh and if there is a council cleanup or someone renovating you can often find scrap bits of down pipe. And you can spray paint it. I saw a snorkel with a construction helmet for a cap—inlet to the snorkel, Looked very good. And we sometimes do see a helmet along the road—in an OP-Shop. If you have a local tip shop you may find things to suit.
Have not seen it but Darth Vader or a hells angle Helmet could also look good.
Oh, and I have seen snorkels with just an open rear facing pipe inlet. Some filters are cheaper than others—I think it is the square box one that is expensive, the air filter that we do have.

Seriously needs a bullbar to..

Old Range Rover bull bars may fit. We put one on a Defender we were selling before blowing its Diesel motor. But you may need to try before you buy as they are not a perfect fit—but usable. We do have 4 bull bars for sale for RR/D1, and I am sure you can find a good one locally. I would get a winch bar if possible.

We also have to find the whole floor carpet & get some new mats.

Council Clean up day will get you your mats, if not carpet peaces to glue on..

I thought the 3.9 was standard in the disco, but may be wrong. So it may have been fitted with an earlier RRC motor if it is fitted with the 3:5. Do not know for sure, so do not quote me on this matter.

Needs a good tune up as the engine is a little smokey. New plugs maybe some leads & clean the throttle body out a bit & see what happens.

Do a compression test first if you have a gauge.

Ill have to put the alloys on it . They are smaller but have great tyres although they look CHEAP & TACKY

Sell them on Gumtree or AULRO if you can get the money for them. Steel wheels are better for off road use--Stronger. Many years ago Aquarangie sold his Range Rover mags to swap to steel rims, as these are stronger [on his Range Rover]. You may be able to change your good tyres to the steel rims, and then sell just the mag rims without tyres. Don’t know.

oh yeah the front drivers side tyre is slowly going down i noticed today as well. Oh & we need to replace both head lights as they are very rust on the inside..

Illegal but I would put HIDs in—they are much brighter, But could get you defected or fined. Chrome spray can on the reflectors and HID’s might work. Jaycar kit is $79.00 for high and low beam H4 HIDs—but we do have to find out why one of our HIDs from Jaycar is no longer working.

Cant think of anything else except that BLOODY dash smoking up bad.. Its driving me crazy its so hard to get under the dash in these things.. The green one ya just undo 2 big screws & pull the dash out.. The instrument cluster anyway..

Dash it!

GOOD LUCK and best wishes. Do hope you got it cheap. They can do up nice. Oh and the ride is great compared to a real Land Rover with leaf springs :D:D:D.

Those 5 spoke hi line/Classic/Sherwood(?) alloys aren't that common and I don't think they would have come standard on that model D1.

And yes, that early only 3.5.

Those 5 spoke hi line/Classic/Sherwood(?) alloys aren't that common and I don't think they would have come standard on that model D1.

And yes, that early only 3.5.

I checked the engine number against the rego papers & they match & they say its the 3.5. So i was thinking its a 3.5 with later EFI put on it or the 3.5 has been worked over with 3.9 parts. Dunno..

The black rims that where on the car are range rover 16" that have been modified to 15 X 10 & they have 32 X 11.5 X 15 on them.. Not much tread left but i recon they would be legal for just a little while longer..The spare is'nt a 10 inch wide tho , not sure of the size as i cant see it stamped on the rear of the rim it mite be on the inside BUT the tyres is a 32 same as the rest..

I have put the alloys on it now & i think it looks absolutely HORRIBLE very dick tacky cheap though they do have near new tyres on them.. When i was changing the wheels over i noticed the Ball joint in the A frame on the rear diff isnt the best .& the shocks are stuffed & looks like the last owner has driven around like that for some time & the springs are saggy as all buggery..Also on the rear drivers side brakes there is a plug with wires going up under the car & back to the front BUT the plug does'nt plus into anything ..

We have been talking the last couple of days & may be selling them all as i seem to be only working on cars out of need & necessity & theres no enjoyment for me anymore..

We would just like to be able to buy a car 4X4 that has the bullbar suspension done wheels & tyres SO we could just get out & enjoy it going to the bush going camping going hiking..

Now that Fred has a job She is able to move on a bit with her life & has her Ps & a car . & cody is getting a bit older its time we think of ourselves & we would both like to start to move on & do those things not have to worry about fixing cars or building a car just to use everyday & just try to keep it going..

Ahwell SUCH IS LIFE i guess..

banjo
25th August 2013, 03:39 PM
Oh yeah the numbers match so i guess thats the best i could hope for.. I would like to know what has been done to the engine so i know But the last owner has no idea & said it was done before he got it to..But i dont realy want to pull the engine all down just to find out.

If so it'll be the brake pad wear sensor. Not a real issue.

if 32, does it have a body lift?

I have put the alloys on it now & i think it looks absolutely HORRIBLE very dick tacky cheap though they do have near new tyres on them..

So sell the alloys and buy new tyres for your other rims. You do have an offer to buy them from someone else above.

When i was changing the wheels over i noticed the Ball joint in the A frame on the rear diff isnt the best .& the shocks are stuffed & looks like the last owner has driven around like that for some time & the springs are saggy as all buggery..

That ball joint is easy to change. Some are adjustable. I got a second hand one from a wrecker for my RR a few years back. Shocks and springs are very easy to change-- only about 2 hours all up. And we used good second hand ones when I did it.

Also on the rear drivers side brakes there is a plug with wires going up under the car & back to the front BUT the plug does'nt plus into anything ..

Some brake pads had a wire to tell you when they were worn out. Do not know if it is this. That is disconnected on our 1995.

We have been talking the last couple of days & may be selling them all as i seem to be only working on cars out of need & necessity & theres no enjoyment for me anymore..

Not counting the smoke, there is only a days work for springs Tyres, ball joint, at the most.

Well started to pull the dash out today . Got sofar & stoped its just to big a job.. Although theres now no smoke & the wires arent getting hot. We changed a relay where the wires goto that where getting hot. But with the amount of THICK smoke that filled the car there is defantly something burnt . I recon its a wire burnt threw & thats why they dont get hot anymore.. So i will never trust the car to use it. If it broke down on the side of the road i would go threw the usual things i know how to BUT with what ever made that smoke cant be good. I would only panic if i had to get it towed home & get a lift in the tow truck i just wouldnt haddle that very well & it would be my luck it would be a good few hours away.& to be honest if i knew i was going to have to do this i would of finished building Harry a year ago..

We dont have the money to fix all this disco.I wont use secondhand parts to fix a car specialy suspension parts.

I have had enough & honestly happy for all of them to go. So we will be selling them all for what ever we can get for em.Green one & camper will be going together.. Karen is going to see my brother inlaw & see if he will do the head gaskets on the boy toy subaru as he is a mechanic Has his own business & also works for a company fulltime his business is just part time these days, He & my sister used to own better ride mechanical repairs in at Broardmedow right next to the Knights home ground..
If he cant do it then it will be sold aswell as i realy just dont want to do it..Cant see us getting our money back on disco but ahwell the story of our lives.Cant see me getting much for Harry as its in bits But i want it all gone in one lot.

Its something we enjoy doing & havent been able to do since we sold the nissan. The green one isnt built for it & would just get so much damage that it would be useless for Karen to use for work..

Take it easy Tony. Celebrate the night and life in general rather than letting the milestone drag you down. ;)

Enjoy and celebrate what you have, (rather than what might have been) which let's face it, is your life, a long future ahead, your health, and ****loads of Landies.:D

Paid for & ordered new 2 inch lift suspension yesterday. TeraFirma . Its getting delivered this afternoon.. :D:D

Found the rim we want on ebay aswell. Bullbars a very expensive for the disco though.Found a snorkel on ebay brandnew only $150 & free postage ..

Have to sell those big 10 inch rims with the 32s on them. & also will sell the alloys aswell once i get the others & some tyres..

Seriously thinking the one down the end of strret could be a great buy at the right price so i could fit the diffs springs & all the braking to Harry . Thought about fitting Harrys body to it but there just not long enough. I cant see the point doing that only to end up with a short tray on the back. The idea is to have a usuable tray not a pretty little one that would only hold the spare tyre ...

Went to Nelson Bay today to watch grandson (Lucas) play his soccer grandfinal. He plays for Wallsend and they played against Cardiff South. What a game, went into extra time and then a penalty shootout. Mrs Aus and I had our fingernails bitten to the quick. Anyrate Wallsend eventually won, so they are Minor Premiers and Grandchampions.:D

This is their first year as "A" graders, they played "B" grade for the last couple of years.:D I had my camera so took heaps of piccies, I like this action shot, that's Lucas on the left!!!:D

They did very good Jim , Cardiff south are a hard team to beat & have won the last few years in a row . We still follow the soccer to a degree (local) & cardiff is always high on the ladder , So great news they won & i bet it was a hard game.. Congratulations to use all..

Thanks for the good wishes Jase. It was a very exciting game. Wallsend were up 1-nil at half time then Cardiff struck back in the second half, near full time. In extra time each team scored a goal each which brought on the penalty shootout. We were a nervous mess at this point.:(

The penalty shootout was the best of five attempts at goal for each team, Wallsend scored four goals and Cardiff scored three. What a hard way to win a Grandfinal, but since it was their first year in "A" grade and they were up against a seasoned "A" grade team, nobody expected it to be easy. Well done to the boys!!!:arms::arms::arms:

The winning Wallsend team. Lucas is kneeling third from the right. The Coach is laying front left and the Team Manager laying front right.:D

Believe it or not the Coach also teaches Ballet. Maybe that helped in his strategy to beat Cardiff South!!:p The Team Manager is holding up three fingers to signify three GrandFinal wins, the previous two were in "B" Grade of cause.

wouldnt matter if he sees new seals or just wipe them.. As long as there clean while doing the blue slip inspection . He cant say or do a thing.. Feel like crap today so I think I mite just have one of those day doing bugga all. Also all the suspension is in the disco , Must say its easier to do then the leaf springs on the series.. Although I need to buy those rear spring retainers that hold the springs in on the bottom of the rears as there was none on there..

Well I brought a 12000 lbs winch for the bulbar for the disco yesdy..We are trying to get everything for the disco as we wont be able to get it done otherwise. Well we could but it will take years & years & we want to use it & get out & about.. Its time we look after ourselves now , the kids are grown & moving on so we can do some things .. We got a small personal loan to finish off the disco that way we can spend the summer sorting out any bugs & it will be ready to go away once the wether cools down.. Will probably go away threw summer but probably just overnighters as I have trouble in the heat .. But will see how things go.. I want to get back upto Samari beach camping & fishing .. I like camping up there but at the south end at the rocks between Samari & one mile beach.. did a lot of that as a kid..

I presume that's not going to be the type of shots where you invite all your medical friends around and give each other vaccinations against tropical diseases?

I have to buy a winch plate as you cant just bolt a modern winch straight onto the bulbar you need a plate cradle thingy . Theres plenty of universal ones on ebay so i'll just get one of those..

well what a night. Most people ended up spewing. I ended up sleeping on the back of my ute becauseI was afraid I would spew and didnt want to spew in my room. Woke up a few hours later and decided to go back to my room and sleep.
I woke up about an hour or 2 later and you can guess what happened.
Last night was the drunkest I have ever been as it is the first time I cant actually remember everything.
We worked it out that we had at least 40 standard drinks each.
I do not want to do that ever again , it was hell, but hell funny too.
It is fun being at college and partying but I am ready to go home :D
