Hi Mick. Yeah I'm working towards that. Once I get the grinder built. I also use a gas forge & would like to get an oven later down the track. The gas forge is very easy to over cook the blades in the heat treating process. I've done that quiet a bit. Can fix them but with the grinder I'm using its not variable speed & a little dangerous to free hand grind the blades after heat treat & temper.

How is everyone going?
I have been super busy.
Moved to Harrington Nsw from Old Bar Nsw.
sold the old honda accord and bought a honda jazz.
I have been waking up at 630amish and working until about midnight with a few breaks in between for the last 3 or 4 weeks getting things ready for my class and classroom.
I have just finished my 1st week with my 1st ever class.
I am on a 5/6 with 28 students so it is fairly full on.
out of the 8 classes I am the only male teacher.
I am finding it hard to get home(Singleton) to do any work on the Land Rovers, which does annoy me.
Hope all is well with everyone :)

Yeah. We were looking to move to a bigger place in Old bar. Unfortunately there was nothing so looked elsewhere but within the same area.
There are a few that are pushing it already, but when it comes down to it they are pretty good at listening and following my instructions.

I am fortunate that it was not that long ago I made the transition myself.
It does help to be able to reflect on my own experiences when helping them with this process.
I am trying hard to give them the structure while at the same time the flexibility to be individuals.

I am trying to still get on here but it will be most likely a few times a week at best, instead of everyday like I like to.
I am hoping come tax time I will be able to get some land rover action happening. Hopefully by then I will be more settled into the daily life of a full time teacher.

First term was/is hectic.
Some really highs and lows.
The main issues I am facing with a 5/6 class is self esteem and mental illness. Which is tricky due to department rules. oh and building that level of trust so we can deal with it. Getting there though.
I have already had a few students and parents tell me that this is the first year they have actually enjoyed school and want to go, which is really nice to hear, as I do try to bring something that other teachers may not (I need to make up for not being bale to play an instrument or sing lol).

Most are happy to yell at Teachers or just ignore them if they are doing ok. My Dad was a Teacher for over 30 years so always got told the stories about what went on. :)

G'day All,

It has been a while since I have posted. The start of April found me doing something that had not occurred since October 2015. That is working.

I started in a new job on the 3rd of April. It has to go down as the longest drought employment wise I have ever had. There is nothing like seeing things you would like to spend some spare money on ... um like a Land Rover Series III, well more than one... However, not having money - let alone "spare" stuff to do something with. Every time I walked past my one or two Land Rovers I offered a silent apology for them just sitting there wanting attention.

With my first full pay I ordered some parts for Rebus the pride of my Land Rover Series III fleet. How sad is that!

Fingers crossed the first weekend of May - yes 2017, should have another time sapping objective type monkey off my back. More of a gorilla the size of King Kong actually. The result of this is that I may experience something known as some "spare time" OMG! Well at least for a couple of months.

At the start of this year I got fitted with a new set of contact lenses. This was after being informed late last year that my specialist lenses and my corneas were not happy with each other. It seems that when a I get a new prescription for contact lenses a new job is not far off. I suppose it is just nature's, fate's or Karma's way of being able pay for how damned expensive the lenses are. I am working towards a slight adjustment in the order of things though. Namely, for me to be working first so I can afford the new lenses within days of being told I need a new set. Not like it has been the last two times - new lenses needed before a new job arrives.

Well I will post again once I have actually managed to achieve something - like getting Rebus moving under his own power again! Oh and stopping properly too. You know two little unimportant things!

Kind Regards
Lionel

Hi everyone. Sorry it's been awhile since I've been on here. Been so so busy. I actually took the day off today. Haven't had one off since I started making knives full time. Things are going well for me with all that. We have some good news. Karen did the course in acute nursing aid. She did her work placement at the local uniting care nursing home & it went very well they told her while she was doing the work placement to make sure she did the online job application as they wanted her to work there. Well she did. She is now working there. Was casual & after 3 weeks offered her permanent part time. She works 25 hrs per week. & she absolutely loves it there. She is working tonight till 11pm. So we are now both working so very busy busy. Fred is still at maccas. Cody is doing a rage course in sports remedial massage he like it & is enjoying it. It's very full on & very involved.
Karen is off for a few days this week & said she will call in to see you him & mrs Aus as she has to visit a lady out that way sometime.

Hi everyone. Yep im still here. Weve been very busy for some time now. Karen is working a lot at the nursing home she loves it there.
Had some stresses as they have canceled her carer pension & seems they will be canceling mine aswell. Just waiting on that letter to say they are.

Ive been very busy making knives. I think i told use i supply Briza there the biggest knife making supplier in scandanavia. The get my hook & small sloyd knives for carving wood & also seax blades from me for the medievil groups.

I suply creataiveman in sydney the same blades aswell.
And we send all our other knives all over the world aswell as here in aus.

We have the jahovas walk around here & ive met 2 people from them that have the same intrests as i do so they keep calling in for a chat.
One of them is a mauri hes funny as with the sayings he says. Im actualy teaching him to make knives as he would like to do that in his retirement in a few years. So when he calls in he brings his big notepad & pens & takes notes on all things & asks lots of questions. We got on quiet well so has made it easier for me. Ive met his family & grandkids. He brings me apple turnovers of a saturday so all good.

Mick88 asked me on facepage if id moved on from landrovers. ONE DOES NOT MOVE ON FROM LANDROVER 😇😇😇😇.

I cant share my knife pics here as i lost them all off my ipad. But if use like or have facepage jump on over say hi. @hillbillyforge or on my page Jason Gwillam.

I am on facepage alot but thats where i sell all my knives cause i cant afford to get a web page made there so expensive.

I put a big order in yesterday at the knife suply shop as im building a new big forge as the one i use now is made fron a 4.5 kg gas bottle. The new one will be from a 9 or maybe even a 15kg gas bottle if i could find one. I have heaps of 9 kg bottle here as i make those ozpig style cookers from them. & i have one cut already to use so probably go that way. Will give me so much more room in the forge. Eventualy ill buy a proper knife making kiln but as there $3,000 it could be quite awhile before i even look at them.

Ive been loving this colder weather as its cold in the shed so have the fire on. I hate summer as the shed gets well into the 60 degrees with the forge on & will be even hotter with a bigger forge. Kilns are much better as they dont radiate as much heat around them.

Oh yeah i also now stabalise my own knife scales (handles) uses a special juice in a vacumn tank sucks out all the air & the juice soaks into the wood. Once there done i wrap them in foil & cook wich sets the juice making them stronger & pretty much waterproof. Also brings out the grains & colours of the wood.

Its also time for me to make another 3 knives that are absolutly perfect for assesment at the australian knife makers guild this time its for full member. So very strict on the assesment this time round.

So thats where we are at, at this point of our lives. Slowly getting there. Would love to turn my knife hobby into a business so that i didnt have to be on a pension but the cost of setting up for larger production just isnt viable.

Cheers jason.

BUT. I won’t be finishing Harry anymore. The cost of engineering everything done and what I still wanted to do was rediculace.
BUT I DID happen to do a thing again this week. I’ve brought another land rover. For the first time ever for me it’s a SWB. Series 3. 1977 model. Rust wise it’s awesome. Mainly surface rust with only a few patches need. The worst is in the rear cross member. Underneath it’s pretty perfect that’s to the inch of grease and oil caked all over it.
