Yeah i would love another project but i better look at bulding a garage or atleast a carport..
I wouldn't mind building another camper like the hard floor flip over ones but a heavy duty box trailer with the tent top type would be good to..
Cant weld today it looks like its going to rain. Ahwell i can get the lawn done instead & it mite clear & i can do some welding , I dodn't like getting shocks from welding & having it start to spit...

The only pics I have of my camper are of the time I towed it around Mt Panorama. At the moment it is being used as a 'work table' in the garage and is covered with remote controlled aircraft and bits off the landy - so no chance of any pics anytime soon. If you search for Cub Kamparoo you will find pics of it. Mine differs in that it doesn't have the built in cooker and it doesn't have a winch - I just flip it over. I also have a 'porch' and a full awning for it.

I haven't been to the other site for a while - if you aren't a member of one of the cliques over there you basically get ignored. I can be ignored here just as easily so I don't see the point in going to another site for the same experience.

Hey Banj - that other job I told you about stops in a week so I have been looking around to see what's available - pretty much got that sorted - should know in the next week.

The planes are an amusing distraction. I got rid of one recently but still have 5 here - ranging from a 1.3m wingspan ducted fan 'jet' that cruises at about 120k to a 1.8m wingspan Beaver. All are electric - and that can have unwanted repercussions. This is what I managed to do with the Beaver:

I went to write down the newest current consumption figures and just didn't see the spinning prop (it was a grey one and they are close to invisible in certain lights). After getting stitched up, first thing I did was painted the prop tips dayglo orange :)

I am trying to work towards a camping trip even if its only overnight. Well the wattagan mountains are fairly close but we cant go there now as a couple of years ago some campers where held up by some men with a shotgun . So fatty refuses to go anywhere near there..
Now we where watching the news lastnight & there where some campers at Barranton tops camping at the allen river camp grounds i think thats where they where & about 6 men started attacking the campers cant remember what with but it wasn't good i think they had machetes we think.. Well fatty says thats it we are never going camping..
I remember going up there when a kid wasn't always good times but most of it was , now i have been all over the Barranton tops i love the place,We where in a group of FWDs that where one of the last to be able to drive upto Keery Peek before it was closed the vechiles, Thats one trip i will never forget we had a jeep Wrangler in our group of friends & it nearly slid over the edge , Took about 4hrs to get it back on the track & it was a very big drop to the bottom...We had winches, ropes & highlifts on it to get it back up..
The only place left that is somewhat close by is Fraser park camp grounds down the other side of Katherine hill bay. Now its a real nice spot down there its on the beach.I have been there once as a kid we used to go down to moonie beach alot but that has been closed to , shame i realy wanted to take the kids down there as there is an AWESOME cave up the end of moonie. ( yes its the nuddy beach). You have to walk to it now & theres no camping.
But frazer park is $50 a night , minimum of 3 nights & it a balot & you have to pay by credit card..So you fill out the balot paper for when you would like to go & hope for the best. & its only got 3 camp spots in the grounds..
What is this world coming to..Its rediculous...:mad::eek:

Mate, I haven't been camping for years, I would have to get some gear together, but the short answer is yes we would come as long as I am given enough time to assemble some gear. Mrs Aus is like Fatty though, when we travel it has to be via motel rooms, and a hair dryer is a must!!!!:) My first challenge is to go for a day drive along Stockton as you are aware, not much of a challenge I know, but I want to familiarise myself driving off road!!;)

I've spent far too much time and money at Jaycar :)

I once left the headlights on in the 4Runner I had - flattened the battery - so I bought one of the headlamp warning kits from them which I built and installed. I am an ex radio ham so kits like that are no problem to me. The wireless weather station I have came from them - and the reversing camera/monitor I put in the 4Runner came from them.

I bought the hair dryer from a local camping shop.

Evening all. Good to see you thinking about a camping trip Banjo. I would think about somewhere with phone coverage - that way if fatty gets concerned about bad guys you can call someone. I think, as others have said, it is not worth worrying about. Yes it has happened but for every one bad story that we hear on A Current Affair, there is 100,000 good camping trips that you never hear about - except here on Aulro.

Anyway, watching my second favourite WWII movie tonight - A Bridge Too Far. I just read they didn't have enough Sherman tanks , so they put plastic fake tanks over 88" Land Rovers.

Jason, a camping trip would be a great thing to try to aim for, it doesn't have to be anywhere far away or exotic!

The great thing about the Newcastle and Hunter Valley area is that there are so many great places. I loved going away for short camping trips here there and everywhere up the valley, which unfortunately I can't really do anymore seeing as I'm in Perth!!

I actually got up this morning and thought it'd be a beaut day to go up to the bay for the day, then realised I was 4000km away from Nelson Bay, it's still sinking in that I'm not in Maitland anymore!!

Anyway, just keep taking the little steps and after a while you'll realise you've made a huge leap forward. And if you do manage to convince fatty a night or two in the tent would be a bit of fun, I'll be jealous as!!

drifter
26th April 2010, 03:25 PM
Thanks mate. It gets a bit arthritic in winter, sadly. The props on electric planes are thinner (and sharper) than those on fuel-powered planes - and they cut with surgical speed and precision. At what I thought was the first strike I pulled my hand clear but it had still hit me 13 times. Only 5 of the strikes were serious and one nearly severed a tendon - so they cut away all the lacerated skin and just stitched it into one wound - that stretched the remaining skin a bit but it didn't take long to settle down and re-form itself over the wound.

Freelander is going well mate, love the exhaust note on the Rover V6 :burnrubber:( even though they don't have a good name for reliability) wife loves it too, she was out putting leather shine into the seats as soon as I brought it home the other day.I know what you mean by nasty wounds, I was electricuted through the left hand several years ago, nearly lost two fingers and the tendons were there for all to see. They stitched it up and I had to have skin grafts. There is a big square mark inside my thigh where they took the skin for the graft from. The scar on my hand looks like bite mark and when people ask me what happened, I say my wife bit me!!!:Rolling::Rolling::Rolling:

UM Na it out of rego.cant just rock up & get 6 months you have to get it all sent out for the 6 months. So i have to wait to get it sent out then i can pay it..I think i will just wait a week or so & put 12 months on it they told us it could wait but they said it could take upto 3 weeks to get it sent out for the 6 months.Aparently your serposed to organise it in advanced i'll remember that for next time..

Camping is a good idea Banjo. We just had a weekend at Lake Moogerah near Warwick. Would have been good except several hundred people had the same idea, so we'll go back when its not a holiday weekend.
If we didn't go anywhere because something bad might possibly happen, we'd never go anywhere.

Hey drifter thanks for that..
I was thinking of joining a landrover club but the one in newcastle only has a couple of landy's in it the rest a crapoyta's.
Not sure if i would get the benifits of being in a club as i don't go out but there are other benifits i spose .
I'm just a bit embarrest to explain my situation & worried i mite get laughed out before i even done anything.
Anyone got some thoughts or opinion on the matter what should i do.
Do we or don't we.
There mite be some people in a club that mite be understanding maybe.
I don't want sympathy just some understanding like on here would be good..:D

Hope you are well Banjo. You may end up laughing at the Craptoytas by showing them up if yours has a Salisbury diff.

You just do what you feel is right for you, Banj. Nothing more, nothing less.

And I have a 12v hair dryer - I was going to use it for the demisters on the 109 - but came up with a better plan. The Aussie Bride likes the fact that I have a 12v hair dryer - it is helping her towards taking the camping step.

If you have a Series, County, etc. you do not need a 12 volt hair dryer, just drop the windscreen forward and take her for a drive.

Seano

I remember seeing photos of great places near Perth.

I know what you mean by nasty wounds, I was electricuted through the left hand several years ago, nearly lost two fingers and the tendons were there for all to see. They stitched it up and I had to have skin grafts. There is a big square mark inside my thigh where they took the skin for the graft from. The scar on my hand looks like bite mark and when people ask me what happened, I say my wife bit me!!!:Rolling::Rolling::Rolling:

When I was a boy around ten I heard my brother Whimpering in his bedroom, ran in and his hand was clenched around the electrical cord going to the transformer of our train set. Dog had chewed through the cord. I yanked him back getting a shock myself. He had burnt right though to the bone. Is okay now over 50 years later.

GREAT met the driver (Brian) at the twin servo's at wallsend both where early got there at 9pm...

Well i have to say a HUGE thankyou to Scary & his Family for the clothes.
they where his boys that have moved out..
Two large boxes & most will fit & the few that where to big fatty got dibs on them as they are jeans..
There was some stickers in there .now on the car.
And a duffel bag , i love duffel bags handy for everything & anything, this one is just the right size not to big but not to small..
Some nice good shirts do up ones & shirts & bondies SINGLETS which is all i will ware...
And some work clothes good worn in ones so nice & soft & some new so now i don't have to ware my tracky tackies when welding as they now have football sized holes in them, they seem to catch fire easy when hot metal lands on them..Not now got propper duds..
There where lots of nik naks in the third box plus some 12v lights , so now we will have interior lights for the landy as they all winge about not having any . Next they will want a bloody heater in it aswell...
And there where some jumpers & some jackets..
Oh & a holden HSV banner thats going on the wall in the shed when i get it built..
I was like a kid at xmas..
Fatty & i dont usualy buy clothes till we know the kids have everything they need for school & winter clothes or there sports & then we mite get something..
Now i own more than 2 pair of shorts & a small handfull of shirts & 2 jumpers..

We are very THANKFULL of SCARY & family & extreemly appriciative for the clothes

THANS
Jason & Karen..

You could do that here in this house. When it was built, the dickhead sparkie wired all the light fittings with switched neutral. I only discovered it when I was changing a light fitting. Something made me check - and I was surprised to find 230V still lurking there... Threw the breaker on the switchboard and changed the fitting. Told the landlord - it's his problem now - but I wouldn't like to pay to have a house re-wired...

Hey while I was looking, I noticed you have nearly 30,000 views. The "Stars" thread has 77,000 but has been going 6 years! The only 3 other high ranking threads are "Employment Oppourtunities" - BBC's wonderful pictorial, Jokes, and the now locked "Temple of Grockle".

I imagine many read but dont wish to post - for whatever reason.

I bet many of them come back again _ Hello out there!:spudnikwaving:

Talking about shocks, my son was telling me at the weekend about his boss's dopey apprentice, who was using a circular saw to cut up timber one day. My son looked up just in time to see the apprentice's saw go ZZZZT across the top of the power lead. The apprentice didn't even notice and kept sawing. My son walked up, pointed to where the lead was hanging with the exposed wiring, and told the apprentice to look at what he had done. The apprentice said, "What, this?" - and stuck his finger on the exposed wire! Somehow, there was just enough plastic to prevent him from getting shocked. My son just called him the dopiest XXXXXXXXXXX he had ever met, turned off the power and wallked away.

They had been there for a couple of weeks & one was changing the disc on a grinder & was told to make sure you unplug it as the gaurd on the on/off switch Had broken well this kid was in such a hurry he said na na its fine i'm know where near the switch , mind you he had the grinder on his lap Yep you know what happened he hit the switch & straight threw his leg right on knock off time. it went threw the top of his right leg on the inside .And cause i was the labourer i had to take him to the hospital , i said to the boss na i aynt going to sit up there for hours cause you wont pay me so i took him to the closest doctors & 45 minutes later & 87 stitches i went home..

Hi JohnF how have you been keeping.how the tribe...

Dentist today [100km round trip], bought a brake hose for LR--have to pump the brakes--hose leaks,
And purchased a push-bike with shock absorbers and aluminium frame for only $10-. The seller purchased the Bike from a tip shop without wheels for $5--and put old wheels onto it.

Bike is for exercise for me--I do not get enough exercise as have Pseudogout that often hits me in foot or in knee. Leg is not that bad but cannot put weight on it for long. Bike should excercise the leg without having to put weight on leg.

My tribe is well, but helping a homeless friend whose 15 year old daughter is talking drugs, alcohol, sex, and has been picked up by police a couple of times this week. He is looking for a place around Coolongatta, as is very worried about his daughter. Her mum does not want her--they are divorced.

She is an ACoAs--mum drank. , before she ruins her life.

Only got on the net for a little while this week as I have run him to a couple of places as he lost his licence for speeding. And so it has robbed me of internet time, but this needs urgent sorting out.

JohnF

I am very sorry to hear that Mrs HH. We lost a child to cot death at 4 1/2 months, but it is very different to loose one when they grow up.

My wife collapsed sobbing after talking to a doctor after my son had rolled our 1985 RR, and I thought my 22 year old son had died [now 24]. However the doctor was telling her they had sent him to another hospital for a CT scan as he had broken his back. My wife thought he would be a paraplegic. But he was sent home that night with a broken back, but walked out of the hospital with what is called a Stable Fracture.

So I had the feeling my only son had died.

I am sure what I said has not helped, but do not know what else to say at the moment.

Best wishes and my prayers will be for the family and your daughter.

I managed to get out of the house and down to the shops today - picked up a few DVDs with a voucher I've had for a while (Mad Max collectors ed, Downfall and Hot Fuzz!).

Got the wife to drive me down in the IIA - she was NOT happy! Looks like the power steering project has the green light...

Sent my motorbike out yesterday to live with a mate for a while - he's waiting for his to get back from Siagon so will ride mine for a few weeks. He's going to give it a clean for me when he's done so it can get sold... I'll miss the bike and miss riding but I'm not going through 6 months of bloody rehab again!

Cheers,

Well, I put new rubbers around the vents under the windscreen today - that was a bit 'awkward' but they are done now.

I also sanded down my pathetic efforts on the rim of the steering wheel (the hub looks magic) and started again on that. It is starting to look good already after one coat. I'll sand and paint 3 or 4 more times before I am happy, though.

Talked on the phone to 2 of my sons, a niece and my older brother - all in all, it's been a busy one.

Hey Adam thats great but i don't know about that hot fuss movie  .
Yeah i bet you'll miss the bike, Maybe talk the wife into leting you get a pit bike they are AWESOME fun........
The power steering is well worth it , Makes it like a modern car well for a landy anyway, Although mine is easier to steer than Karen 4runner..
I'm realy starting to get itchy feet & have looked at selling my car  . been looking at some lada nivas, had one before i brought it after it was rolled & staighted it all out then sold it..
Some of the early subaru's would make a good project..

Most of my planes started as low as $450 but, by the time you add the motors and batteries and servos... I think the cheapest I have here is around the $1300 mark.
We had 2 Minis and a Swift - they race in the same class. I got rid of the minis a while ago.

I have never done the boat thing - same for planes with floats - never fancied getting wet retrieving them if something went wrong.

2nd May 2010, 09:49 PM
Oh yeah. Brilliant. And spend those 3 nights supervising/teaching - and the next 4 re-doing...

I'm in a 'hold' pattern with it at the moment. I have replaced the master cylinder but now need to do the slave cylinders and shoes. I have new flexible hoses for it.

I haven't checked the rear diff yet but there is way too much miscellaneous movement in the front diff - more than I am comfortable with, although I haven't checked it against the manual. I may check the diff out in the 88" and, if it is any better, swing it over and replace the brake assemblies.

By the time I have finished, it is going to need a paint job.

What colours did you use on yours?

I use then for a fire place should be good now of a night as i have to go out side to smoke. Its half full.. Some sleep would be nice but i doubt i will get any through the day...

Always keep positive thoughts in your mind Banjo, we all have down moments ( I have more than my fair share) but try and concentrate on the positive. As far as the sliders are concerned if people want shop quality let them go and pay top dollar for them. I think if you price them appropiately you should be able to sell them and as you become better at it and the quality improves you can increase prices!!!:)

Hi banjo, Hope you are having a good day.

Spent the morning after my exercise class that is, trying to fix the rear brake of my new push-bike, the $10-- one I told you about. Not yet fixed. have to buy a small diameter tube for brake cable.

It is a "Repco Dual predator Al." Guess the Al stands for aluminium, as it has aluminium frame. Then I have to fix the gears. They gears do change but do not give me the full range of gears--it is 18 speed. However have parts at home so will get it fixed one day soon.

At home it is very mountainous, and I need the lower gears, but at the moment have all the higher gears working--great for around the flat Gold Coast, but not for around my home.

Been trying to talk fatty into getting married as we aren't yet i think 23yrs we should be.. We where going to years ago when we where in our early 20s but i had a 21st birthday party that i didn't want at all cause it was put on by my father & only 2 friends of ours(karen & mine) turned up everyone else was my fathers friends & some family & family friends . But as usual my father had that one to many & then all he wanted to do was belt the **** out of me & put on a big show.. I was sitting on a chair & he came sat infront of me & put his heel into my groin & said something cant remember what & i said hey be friggin carefull & well he threw his plate full of food onto the table where evryone had put the presants & knocked over one of those mozzy coils & well you guessed it all my presants court fire so lost most of them..Then he made me go out the front so he could continue his tyrant. The 2 friends of ours had left earlier as they didn't want to put up with his ****, & everyone else just stood around & watched it must of been real good entertainment i spose cause everyone just let him go on his high horse. Plus after all this i was made to give a speech to thank everyone for coming Talk about feeling so small & so embarrest... But before all this Karen & i had started our wedding plans & had put quiet alot down on our deposite for all the stuff , Had most of it all sorted with only a few details left to conferm.Anyway a few days after the party we where at Karens parents to finish the wedding stuff & they pipe up & say well if his dads going were not & none of our family will be going aswell as they where at the party & seen my fathers parade. So the wedding was off & we lost our deposites WOO HOO . Never got married since then but would like to.. So some of our past , Ahwell atleast the future is looking somewhat better we even have some FRIENDS .....
Is there any marrige sellabrants on here we looked into geting one a few years ago & it was pretty dear was wondering what it would cost now ??.

I've been out at a mates all day today - there were a heap of us there. He is building a Series 1 so we went to give him a hand. The guys were sanding the firewall, guards and tub while one guy and myself put the springs and diffs on the chassis. Popped wheels on and rolled it out of the shed and put the engine and gearbox in - amazing effort and we all pitched in for the heavy bits.

The owner is putting the new brake lines in tonight and we'll start putting the firewall and panels in tomorrow. It's magic watching it all come together.

I managed to score new slave cylinders and brake pads for the 2a today, too, so there will be some more progress on my one soon.

Well Karen got lost this morning Aus so she wouldn't seen anyone. She went to meet Brian to drop off the sliders at the twin servo's at wallsend but when she got there, there was no where for a B-Double to pull up so she rang Brian & he said ok just go through the round about & take the last round about & then turn right at the next & pull over i will meet you there..Well the last round about came & went , I gets a phone call i'm lost i'm on the freeway going to maitland. So she had to turn around & come back the same way then turn at the right round about then head for the Go Kart track then turn right & pull over..She told Brian that she got lost & he thought we where new to the area But then she told him she grew up here & been here all her life  .
