I must admit it, I do like them.

Its a petrol but with the price of diesel, I feel on gas I made the right choice.

Now I am just wondering which year is regarded as most reliable and perhaps more sought after>

The reason is simple......simplicity.

No computers (unless it has ABS but that doesnt stop you if it fails).

The TD5 engine itself isnt too bad but all the electrical crap they hang off it is not only not nessesary but makes them problematic......oh and thats why I dont like petrol engines as well.....Electricity and water, mud and dust dont mix.

As far as ACE goes......I didnt bag it, I said it was fitted because they suffered too much body roll on air springs did I not? but really I dont give a crap if it works/doesnt work....I dont need it or want it....so what, what difference does it make to any of you?

I will agree that there are short comings in the D1, and especially an auto as I have had a stuffed starter motor before and it had me stuffed what I was going to do......but.......of course it was an electrical failure which caused it thus my dislike of more electrical crap than you need goes on.

Just because someone has a different point of veiw, doesnt mean that you have to change it, I have just as much right as the next person to express my opinion and if that means you disagree, you have the right to say so but there is no need to crack the ****s about me not wanting a D2, yes I think they are crap, every one that I have ever had anything to do with was crap except 1 which is Jamies Dads but it gets looked after pretty well because of that fact.

This is just a touch on why I dont like D2's, this is just from the past couple of months of problems and issues that have come up with D2 TD5's.

I compiled this for a mate who bought 1 and wnated to know what things to look out for.....I was even surprised when I did some searches.

Some of them are just interesting stuff that is usefull for him but most are issues you guys have had.

Not mush on ACE though lol.....

Geez im so sorry for up setting a couple of other serial arguers who just couldnt help them selves but argue.

You say no one asked but I thought I would give a reason why I thought what I did rather than just have another this is what is the best with out any substance to it.

If anyone was offended by it then your soft and should get over your self.

Get over it you nutters, they are just words for god sake, if you cant handle that, how do you get through the day.

Serial arguer, I'd prefer that then serial dick head.....

Shall we put it down to personnal opinion rather than a stand out better model.

I do not dislike any model just that I have certain preferences.
Some make sense some don't. Those of us that put the big wheels on with big lifts and drive over rocks that were put there to drive over rather than actually on a track to somewhere are another breed with opinions all to them-selves.

We are all different and thats great because if we weren't we all be driving VW Golf TDI's.

well i dont think airbags are a waste of time.......and i dont believe motor companies would of spent millions developing them if they didn't work

i also think that abs is not a waste of time, as i thought the whole purpose of having it is not to help break in a straight line so much but enable you to break and steer out of the way of a possible colision under control.

and yes there are many serial arguers on this site but i have to say "mcrover you are the one that brings them all out fo the wood work"

and yes i know that you are only having your opinion just like everyone else......but sometimes people have an opinion on your opinion which you obivoulsy dont like! as you always start several pages of why you should have one and why people shouldn't comment on why you have one.

cant say i have come accross that many threads where people constantly feel that they have to pipe up and defender or explain why they have an opinion like they do to everyone!quite as much as you do.......

there for i have come to the conclusion that you enjoy bating people with such a subject......if you only care about what you think and what other people say will never effect the way you feel about your opinion why do you feel it necessary to retaliate all the time?.......let it go! just ignore!

Mcrover I for one am not offended by anything you say. My only concern was new people to LR's would come along as its a public forum and believe all the negative rubbish you post about D2's.

You only think you know everything about a D2 but in fact you don't.

So the reason I chimed in was not for a fight but so people new to LR's would not be brain-washed by one person's on going negative posts directed at one model.

On that note I am happy for you to have the last say because you seem to live for that.

It's not so much the difference of opinion that I get fired up about, it is the constant character bashing from the same (I use this term loosely) People that some history started way back when and they at any chance they get will push buttons.

Yes I am opinionated and there are certain things that I dont feel the need to change my mind on but if someone can actually show me some proof that I should change my opinion I will and I have in the past.

Of course your all right, I'll take the Disco to the wreckers tomorrow and go buy a much superior D2 and I might even get a V8 just so I can use heaps more fuel JUST BECAUSE I CAN.Read this in a sarcastic tone PLEASE

Forget about initial outlay, cost of running, reliablility, just make decisions based on looks and how many added extras you can bolt on because of course you need it all.

Yes ABS is a great step forward and I have no problem with it being on a road car, I also thing that all the other stuff is great on a commodore or Falcon or on a Disco that Im not going to take off road much so I dont have to pay to fix it....

I made a simple statement that if a new member came on and didnt have any idea of what they were looking at would possibly entice them to do a bit more research into what they were buying more than just put them off as it is just 1 persons opinion.....most intelligent people would get that so how come you lot seem to have trouble, your not dumb, just intolerant to differences of opinion.

The thing is, I dont like D2 electrics and neither did a hell of a lot of other mechanics but then you go to the D3 and they seemed to address most of the problems and now because of that it has become known for it's reliability and you will rarely hear me say a bad word about 1, I have even gone and stretched my neck out and said I would consider buying one.

There is a difference in having a honest backed up opinion and a biast opinion based on....."I have one so it is the best".....attitude.

This debate has been going on since long before I hit this forum and Im sure it will continue long after I get sick of all the **** you lot blame on me and **** off.

The whole lot of you that have piped up in here about my stupid innocent coment are just a pack of fuddy duddies for lack of a more wanted to use word and you really need to get a grip.

If you dont like whats happening in a thread and no one is character bashing you then........DONT POST......DONT READ IT.....It is that simple.

If you want a thread to die then let it, but it your going to have a go at me about how wrong I am about something, either have a reasonable rational arguement or expect me to clash swards.

If you dont like what I post then use the ignor button....I wont be offended if you never read my posts or comment on what I say.

My posts are normally long winded and very explicid for the reason that I dont want to be missunderstood but it seems that even when I do this, people still get the wrong idea and I end up having to defend what Im saying.

Now before actually replying to this post, read it a couple of times and make sure you really have the gist of it as I think half the time people just dont bother and try to guess what Im saying and just skim the post but this is starting to get into the serious character bashing stakes here so I would really appreciate it if you would take the time and try to understand what I have said and if you dont want to bother with that, please dont bother posting in response to this.
