My Son who recently got his endorsement to fly twin engine planes was telling me when landing with only one engine how, if you make the wrong manoeuvre, you are screwed. The plane will go into an uncontrollable spin
Ouch.
There's a single engine safety speed, lower than this and the asymetrical thrust overcomes the ability of the rudder to hold the aircraft straight when rolling out of a turn. When one engine is off all turns are usually made towards the live engine so that the asymmetrical thrust helps to straighten the aircraft coming out of a turn. Turning towards the dead engine means the rudder has to overcome the asymmetrical thrust and straighten the aircraft as well, making recovery from a turn a lengthy business even if above the single engine safety speed.
Flying light twin-engined aircraft on one engine is a tricky business...

While I was away on holidays I decided to take a nap after lunch. I went into the van and as I approached the bed I noticed a beautiful hot chick asleep there. I gently lay down beside her and gave her a gentle pat on the bottom in case I had disturbed her. Having drifted off to sleep, I was awakened about 30 minutes later by soft noises. Opening my eyes I saw a beautiful pair of eyes looking intently at me. BIG GOO GOO EYES!!! Four month old grand daughters certainly know how to win hearts!!!:D:D:D:D Signed...Poppy

Yep. You don't need twin-engine training to fly one of those. Interestingly, the aircraft performs better with the front engine stopped than it does with the rear engine stopped.
Major disadvantage- if the fuselage stops suddenly, the rear engine can get mixed up with the passengers. This is not a good look...

normally they try to lay out the crank throw so the rod and the weights motion "draughts" the fuel in and then pumps it around the crank case.

When I was living in Mendi (runway elevation 5,000, typical temperatures around 30C) in PNG, a Cessna 336 pushmepullyu had a rear engine failure during takeoff, which the pilot apparently failed to realise (soon enough, anyway). After 5,000ft of runway, it failed to become airborne, and went into the 2m high grass off the end of the runway, coming to a stop with minimum damage.

old school, bronze, and looking at the size of the pool and the heat in the pipe, it was done with Gas. good skills. i exspect that the components were tinned first before being brought togeather and glued

I'd say TIG too, you get a much smoother fillet with oxy/acetylene.

ill stick with oxy/acetylene, to much heat in the pipe and the fillets are wide, smoother fillets are an option but the hight of the pools gives it away hard to get the hight with a tig. which is the advantage of tig as well as a lesser HAZ
could be wrong, looks good though

170m odd worth of submarine, yup they're a little bit on the large size!
The annoying thing is, the NATO name for these is the Typhoon, whereas our comrades from the land of vodka and snow call them Akula, or Shark.
But, us clever dicks at NATO decided to call another soviet submarine class the Akula class, which is more of a hunter-killer type sub as opposed to a missile subs like the Typhoons :)
I want one :p

I play dodge with 777's at one of our sites too. I drill holes and blow things up. Thought these where pretty cool. Was wondering if we had any here, thanks.

How does the bucket attach to the tipper? Wouldn't it damage the tray when turning?

If I had to guess I'd say they have a gooseneck type attachment that goes in place of the bucket, not having seen one though it's all purely academic :)

Doesn't attach. You just throw a bit of dirt into the tub and then sit the bucket down flat on the dirt. The weight of the digger means that it does not move around - and the dirt protects the floor of the tub in case there is any movement.
When towing using the Sleipner, the excavator operator travels in the cab with the engine running. He makes sure that sufficient hydraulic pressure is applied to the boom rams to keep the digger tracks level and off the ground, and can also "steer" the digger if required by slewing the boom.

I have been hit on the toe by one at home. Instant horrific pain. I recall the pain well and this was more than 10 years ago.
We are forever getting them out of the pool, dead of course on the bottom. They will be under old iron, in gardens, in sheds and rubbish heaps. Give them space or kill them.
Cheers,

Thanks for the giant version of the photo. I had a smaller picture as our computer desktop for years. (Though the wife said it was sad because "where's his family?")
I've been meaning to start a thread about it here, and one day I might look up the rego if I can, if someone hasn't beaten me to it already.

For those who haven't driven a early FJ40, look at the indicator lever and imagine what it does to your knee when you jump in and your knee connects with the lever when it was still straight and in its original postion.

No, just what you can see in the photo. I expect it would mean going through the licensing archives, or in other words, you'd have a very long and boring holiday in the UK. Or maybe someone at Land Rover would know. But if I ever had the money, I'd go over and start hunting around.
