SOME UNUSUAL CARS: BUT STILL WORTH BIG DOLLARS.

THE 1954 OLDS DIDN'T MAKE IT BUT WAS AUCTIONED OFF FOR $6,000,000.00 IN ARIZONA BY BARRETT JACKSON.

They were pure fantasy on wheels, machines designed to make the heart race and the mind ask, "What if?"

These 1950s concept cars were automotive art built to attract public attention,
test wild engineering ideas and give motorists a fleeting glimpse down the highway of tomorrow.

--- snip - lots of ugly pics of cars ---

I now understand my preference for British cars - most weren't exciting but at least they weren't ugly. And to think, all these years I've been blaming my Dad

Of course, British sports cars are different again, both beautiful AND exciting, them yanks STILL don't have a clue

One for Super Dave. There's some stick on that crane eh? :o
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4cdOB_RsN0

Now that's a crane. 160 ton!! I can't see how 7 days and 50 people though.
I would have thought 10 could have done that in two days.

Ian. Super Dave eh. Never been called that before:):)

They probably dismantled it and re-assembled it after walking it, in in bits. ;)

You haven't now either, :p it was aimed at magical mechanic and crafty craney, Blknight.aus

yes, I can see how you might think its got a long stick on it...
but if you like a long heavy lift stick have an eyeball at this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGm69ElXIs8

I normally only operate down in the more independent self supporting <60T classes of crane where you dont need to have additional vehicles to bring in half of your gear for you.. my favorites being the little 8-12T jobs if the works getting bigger and more involved than what you can throw off of a single operator with a dogger in support more often than not I'm on the ground helping bring in and put the thing together.

The cranes I really want to get into are the German all terrain recovery crane trucks, half crane, half tow truck half winch truck half all terrain vehicle, all pure awesome.

that configuration but smaller, same basic boom length too from memory good for something like 1t @25m if you dont have the jib on the side of the boom but only 400k (but more lift height) if you run the jib for full lenght. with the jib I think they're good for 1.4T (limit of the single line winch) upto a 30m lift up close max lift is 8t at about 2m from the front bumper. fitter with 2 winches so you could have a speed line and a reeved block, single reeving block as well so you could run a drop line 2:1,3 or 4:1 from the main winch without having to change the lifting block other than re-reeving it.

the little 8 T job you could park in a normal size car park, lift the boom, sneak it in, back it up to the back of the bay and then lower the boom.

with co-ordinated front 2, rear 2 4 wheel steer and crab you could get them into some amazingly tight places if you had room to lift the boom up

able to operate mobile, static on rubber, half and full length outriggers so you could use them like a mini frenna inside some buildings.

ground weight was only 12T for the 8t lifting one.

available in city crane and all terrain versions (basic difference being tyre width, drive ratio suspension height and overall height) and able to comfortably do 80kph.

Chain bin on the front and if you did it just right you could lift the boom, use the headache ball to open the bin (the one I drove had a replacement handle on it just for doing this) drop the ball into the right part of the bin slew off while you pay out leaving the hook in the bin, lean out of the cab and drop your sling selection on without leaving the cab. IF you were on good ground you could show up, get your instructions setup the crane do the lifting pack it all up, do your paperwork and get gone without even leaving the seat.

Reminds me of an accident across the road from where I lived about 35 years ago.
We lived on a busy road with park land across the road.
The park had a fence that consisted of 4x4regum posts with a 4x4 top rail.

A car lost control, hit the fence and then the top rail speared the grill, firewall, the drivers midriff and through the rear of his seat.

They had to cut the post either side of guts and lift him into the ambulance with the post still in him.

I slept through the whole event but my dad was there and he told me about it.

That was an interesting link.

There is some interesting reading on 'the bodies of mount everest' if you search them out. Many many climbers have died over the many years people have been pushing to reach the summit. 'Green boots' is one such example of a climber who is now used as a landmark for other climbers to gauge their distance from the summit.

Ditto on that one, except the rail went past the driver's shoulder and out the back window. The fence was the same but it divided two levels of the road in front of our place. I think the driver couldn't make up his mind which level to take. He nearly ended up with no mind at all.

I agree, if you look at when you first see the bear running across then again a bit later the action of the bear / movement is too identical.
I was always told if being chased by a bear and you have a choice of running up or down hill it is best to run down hill as their front legs are shorter than their back and are slower going down hill VS going up hill.

It has been found by a mob who delves into these sort of clips to see if they are fake, they have compelling evidence that it was a fake. Was supposed to be filmed in Japan. They have black bears. They may have one or two brown bears but now thought to be extinct. The snow fields that it was supposed to be filmed at has had no bears ever. Also the place it was supposed to be filmed at has huge crowds. Saw a you tube film explaining this, but do you think I can now find it. There was more evidence. Sound the bear made bears don`t make.

Unless they're speaking Japanese bear language.

Personally I find American bear language almost un bearable.

The disdain the Australian native bear displays for foreign tourists, who persist in taking photos looking up at same sitting in a tree, is a distinctly Oz version of language however.

I recall seeing a video about a danish pig farmer who would mount a sow and dig his heels into it's side to mimic the action of the boar during the mating routine... after a few minutes of man & pig 'lovin', a squeezey bag of boar... erm... genetic material... was inserted. Apparently the routine improved reproduction rates significantly.

I have an awkwatrd feeling that old mate was trying something similar before he got taken for a ride :D
