Ref; World War I centenary: Tasmanian farmers create giant poppy-shaped maze - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-01-29/tasmanian-couple-cut-poppy-shaped-maze-into-sorghum-field/6055858)
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/01/57.jpg
A Tasmanian couple who carved a Thylacine-shaped maze into last year's sorghum crop are about to unveil their latest creation.
About 2,000 people visited Anna and Rowan Clark's farm in Hagley last year to walk through their Tasmanian Tiger maze.
This year, they created a maze in the shape of a poppy.
Mrs Clark said poppies were grown on the farm but the design also paid homage to the Anzac centenary.
"It's probably more to reflect all of the people who fought in the First World War," he said.
"We grow poppies on our farm, it's our main crop so we thought it was a good fit."

We drive on the left in this country, not the right. I stay on the left of the stairs as most others do. In other countries I have to remember to stay on the right.

First time overseas and wow stairs, passing people in the street and even crossing the street was hard for the first few days. I kept on going to my normal side. Before i left home. It would not be something i even thought was opposite. But it makes sense.

I was surprised on the London Underground escalators that the signs tell you to keep right.
Maybe it's because in the UK, if you're walking on a road with no pavements, you walk on the right....it allows you to see any oncoming traffic. I guess they were just being consistent.
I remember the first time I moved to London and got the tube to work and accidentally stood on the left. Highly unpopular with the seasoned commuters.

Its about an Aussie soldier but wasn't written by an Aussie. Well he was in an Australian band when the made it. So fine, we can accept the writer as one of ours.

It was written and performed by Eric Bogle who is a Scottish born Australian. Eric Bogle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Bogle)
Your clip is a good version though. Great voice.
Eric Bogle version is great though. Although a Scot by birth, he has certainly caught the Aussie spirit.

Of course, it could be argued that the man in the song is a Scottish immigrant to Australia.

I thought that too Ron .................... but Joan Baez doesn't do a bad version. ;)
Best version I've heard is by Liam Clancy.

Eric Bogle used to be an 'annual' performer at the Warragul art centre, just up the road, for a few years but hasn't been around for the past 5 years or so. A real shame as he always played to a full house in an excellent venue. An outstanding singer, song writer and entertainer.

Beijing Hotel Brochure - Translated by Mi Hung Lo?
Bear this in mind should you ever go to Beijing!
A friend went to Beijing recently and was given this brochure by the hotel. It is precious.
She is keeping it and reading it whenever she feels depressed.
Obviously, it has been translated directly, word for word from Mandarin to English.
The text below is from the Brochure, currently a PDF so could not attach.
-----------------
Getting There:
Our representative will make you wait at the airport. The bus to the hotel runs along the lake shore. Soon you will feel pleasure in passing water. You will know that you are getting near the hotel, because you will go round the bend. The manager will await you in the entrance hall. He always tries to have intercourse with all new guests.
The Hotel:
This is a family hotel, so children are very welcome. We of course are always pleased to accept adultery. Highly skilled nurses are available in the evenings to put down your children. Guests are invited to conjugate in the bar and expose themselves to others. But please note that ladies are not allowed to have babies in the bar. We organize social games, so no guest is ever left alone to play with them self.
The Restaurant:
Our menus have been carefully chosen to be ordinary and unexciting. At dinner, our quartet will circulate from table to table, and fiddle with you.
Your Room:
Every room has excellent facilities for your private parts. In winter, every room is on heat. Each room has a balcony offering views of outstanding obscenity! .. You will not be disturbed by traffic noise, since the road between the hotel and the lake is used only by pederasts.
Bed:
Your bed has been made in accordance with local tradition. If you have any other ideas please ring for the chambermaid. Please take advantage of her. She will be very pleased to squash your shirts, blouses and underwear. If asked, she will also squeeze your trousers.
Above All:
When you leave us at the end of your holiday, you will have no hope. You will struggle to forget it.
--------------------
Enjoy.

No, I wasn't kidding. I've heard many of the Pogues' song and there seem to be many two or three syllable words included.
I thought their cover was excellent. His voice has an honest quality that suits the song very well.

Yup.
Some more info"
The annual Sapporo Snow Festival kicked off today in Japan. The center piece is an enormous Star Wars snow sculpture that looks like the Empire's take on Mount Rushmore. According to IT Media (http://nlab.itmedia.co.jp/nl/articles/1502/05/news085.html) and Game Watch (http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20150205_687027.html), the Star Wars snow sculpture measures 15 meters tall, 22.6 meters across, and 20 meters deep.

Re the submarine cable, that must be an electricity cable. It's nothing like the international telecommunication submarine cables I knew when I was Marine Manager in the submarine cable repair section of our company, e.g., Scenes From A Massive Undersea Cable Ship | Gizmodo Australia (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2010/09/scenes-from-a-massive-undersea-cable-ship/)
Aha! Here's the one pictured earlier: nsw.com > Products &<br />Services > Cable > Power Cables > Submarine Power Cables (http://www.nsw.com/en-us/productsbrservices/cable/powercables/submarinepowercables.aspx)

I used to be able to do a similar thing in a Volvo. It was a V70 with a slightly worked high pressure turbo. I would regularly leave V8 Commodores from the lights. It was great watching the expressions once they realized they'd been done by a Volvo!

Is there another kind of number?
A label on the TV in our room at the Sebel Harbourside Kiama where we stayed last night. Yes, I should have cleaned it before taking pic.

I assume these signs are made with individual letter templates and someone got the order wrong because the sign at the campsite itself is correct.
I case you are wondering, Village Green campsite is one of several in Waterhouse Conservation Area in NE Tasmania.

Someone has modified the sign to reflect the anti-Green sentiment prevalent in some parts of Tasmania.
However, the name of the camping area at Interlaken, Tasmania raises some interesting questions.
Does it date from a time when that word was acceptable or is the name not related to the name generally given to Italians half a century ago?

What is a "Guided Snorkel"? Does one go snorkelling with an underwater guide?

Yes. That is what seemed to be happening.
The sign was gone the next day and the photo was taken on Saturday.
I think it might have been just one of a series of activities in the district that weekend.

I was a HUGE fan of Gold Monkey... pity it only lasted one season. I have managed to download the entire season, and although it is somewhat corny these days, it is still better to watch than most of the garbage on TV today. I would rather go out and watch the grass grow than watch that crappy Celebrity get me out of here...

You don't suppose this isn't just a mis-spelling of "Felling"?

The modification of 'felling' has been done without a router. White texta or p/shop etc.

Look very closely at what was the first L in "FELLING".
It has been doctored. As I said when I posted the photo, "Someone has modified the sign".
It is the sign that has been modified, not the photo. It is white paint.

It looks like it has drive to the front wheels. Forerunner to the Ferguson FF system used on the Jensen FF?

There's ghetto fab and suburban left wing fab.
That Rangie falls into the latter category, but you can tell the owner has a strong social conscience from the following:
There is a home made gas convertor on the back.
He has thoughtfully provided hi rise accommodation for any homeless people he may meet on his journeys.
He has recycled a hellava lot of muffler tube.
