Back in the day found a 32mm hose with a fine mist fog branch lowered slowly from above to be very effective on a chimney fire. Had to be pretty careful though as the resultant steam coming out of the chimney was definitely hazardous. Towells and rags/blankets on the hearth did a good job of minimising damage internally. Amazing how much water could be fed in (and turned to steam) before water actually reached the hearth.

The car being crushed I think was about a 37-38 Studebaker very similar to my Dad's 36 which we dumped because in the pre internet days you couldn't get parts for the stuffed gearbox.

One wonders about the pollution and asbestos in regard to air quality.

One of my boys was once refusing to get into the car after school, so I closed the back door (he sits in the back), opened the drivers door, turned the engine on to make him think I was driving away, and walked to the back again. He'd leapt onto the bumper and was clinging to the rear tyre with a TERRIFIED expression on his face! I let him in and we drove home.

I drove a truck once upon a time, with 3 sticks and a v6 gm 2 stroke diesel with a 6/71 super charger. In 1st low low range with both rear diffs locked it would drive up mt everest i reckon. Pull the sydney harbour bridge to WA i reckon. Geeze that thing had some go.... and NOISY!!! It was an R190 international prime mover. Twin 4" donaldson mufflers and chrome stacks. 35 yrs ago. What a beast it was.

My dad had a 48 ford truck like that, thought it was pretty cool watching him change gears and flipping the switch on the 2 speed diff.

When my dad got his drivers licence, the instructor asked him if he wanted his chauffeurs licence - all he had to do was show he could double clutch. At that time a chauffeurs licence was what now a day is heavy rigid licence.
