    as for ABS,
I agree 100I that I could maybe do better on a dry straight road after a few goes,,
    as for Mrs Pedro???
    as for in the rain?
as for sudden change in surfaces?

    improvements in restraints?
they've had the lap-sash style for a good few years now and the ONLY improvement apart from the inertia-reel is the Pre-Tensioner, which is set off by the cars ELECTRONICS

why do you want to up-date if your disco is the best?
and why not update to a LR that has won lots and lots of awards from Professional motoring journo's around the world?

as far as I can see,, there's nothing to update too that fits your requirements,,
and I think THATS a good thing.

all you need now is a floral pattern moo-moo, a head band and a long hair wig.

    Peace man.
Your an absolute crack up pedro, why try and convert everyone or even just me.

I think they are crap, I think any 4wd that relies on electronics is crap but if it can be still driven without them then at least you have a hope if you do get stuck.

No matter how much you crack the poops and try to make so called rational arguments about it that is something you wont change so there is no point trying.

You like your car and I like mine, I have stated why I dont like certain cars and most people have taken that as my opinion not that Im having a go at what they have bought.

I have had a go at you in retaliation to what you have said to me but regardless of all of that.......the D1 is still the best choice FOR ME.....Thats ME not you.

I have a car with EFI, ABS, SRS and all that rubbish but:

    A. I dont drive it that often and is only Mrs Mc's work hack
    B. I dont take it off road or anywhere I couldnt easilly get a tow
    C. If the ABS failed it still drives
    D. If the SRS failed.....I wouldnt be worried if it still drove or not...
    E. If the EFI fails then I pick it up on a trailer behind my 1997 D1 300 Tdi Auto that even if a nuke went off would still run (as long as you could start it) because of no electronics to fry.....damn the radio wouldnt work.....

If you like your D2 thats up to you and your bank balance and has nothing to do with my haircut or dress sense.

By the way.......where do you get your Moo Moo's from?

How many have actually OWNED diesel D1s, D2s and D3s? So as one who has and one who does a lot miles on the road and offroad, there is one so far above the others it is a NO contest.

Mcrover this is not a personal attack nor is this designed to bait you, let me be clear about that.

But your comments in regards to ACE. I have had my D2 with ACE for 7 years and its been fault less. ACE has proved to be just as reliable as modern day power steering. My point is not personal but don't rubbish a D2 on a public forum with miss information when you have not even owned one.

I have owned a D1 as well and I have to say a good car but had some short comings like any other car but I don't rubbish them nor do I try and convert people.

I reckon anything with auto has to be suspect as a real 4wd. Go manual diesel D1 - if battery fails on those electrickery autos your up the hill with no where to roll. Diesel manual will start just by kicking it on its behind.

Two sayings come to mind about all of this.

Never argue with a fool, people tend not too notice the difference

    AND

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a differant result each time

I was going to put what i thought was the best Disco, but it has electronics god forbid and that would only cause more rabbiting

    Cheers Baz.

D2 V8 Auto on LPG With ACE! Oh baby. The power, the Glory, The beam axles... The sports exhaust.... 69.9/L..... The leather interior.... The looks the performance.... It goes around corners like nobody's business, traction control is brilliant but also Easily disconnected with transfer case lever.... I had MR replpace ANYTHING that was even remotely suspect! It thinks, it reacts, it can eat any fuel you want, Lots of it actually but i knew that when i bought it....

I have had a !!A, drove all ove the NT in that, loved it, what a prehistori piece of junk... Still Loved it.

76 and a 77 2 Door Rangies, getting there but strangely frustrating with not enough doors, and SO OLD by the time I had them. One had a 4.4 leyland and big tyres Etc... Fun but 30 year old Crap!

82 four door with a three speed auto... Junk but loved it too... getting warmer...swapped 3 speed for a r380,, getting even warmer...

1996 D1 v8 Auto. Very Warm now...Did lots of off road and highway Ks, never even looked like stopping. But just an old fashioned bommy Range Rover underneath... Yawn. Too small in the back, narrow gutted, tinny vehicle...

Traded in on a Shiny D2. It's everything I want in a 4x4, it's reliable, you can drive it for ten hours and be a haappy camper, corner it at 60k, fit bullbars, spring lifts anything sensible you want...As for Body Lifts, engine swaps, choopping and swapping ... HUMPH who cares! Buy a junker and go back to basics....

Next car will be a d3 I guess.... But I like the BLEND of old and new on the D2, i think it has a nice balance.....

So if I say I dont like something it means that im attacking some one personally.......Thats a new twist as I was attacking something mechanical/electrical not the person.

I have attacked the person sarcastically but as this is a forum and hard for people to see the difference I can see where that might have got lost in translation.

As far as ACE goes......I didnt bag it, I said it was fitted because they suffered too much body roll on air springs did I not? but really I dont give a crap if it works/doesnt work....I dont need it or want it....so what, what difference does it make to any of you?

I will agree that there are short comings in the D1, and especially an auto as I have had a stuffed starter motor before and it had me stuffed what I was going to do......but.......of course it was an electrical failure which caused it thus my dislike of more electrical crap than you need goes on.

Just because someone has a different point of veiw, doesnt mean that you have to change it, I have just as much right as the next person to express my opinion and if that means you disagree, you have the right to say so but there is no need to crack the ****s about me not wanting a D2, yes I think they are crap, every one that I have ever had anything to do with was crap except 1 which is Jamies Dads but it gets looked after pretty well because of that fact.

This is just a touch on why I dont like D2's, this is just from the past couple of months of problems and issues that have come up with D2 TD5's.

I compiled this for a mate who bought 1 and wnated to know what things to look out for.....I was even surprised when I did some searches.

Some of them are just interesting stuff that is usefull for him but most are issues you guys have had.

Not mush on ACE though lol.....
