All sounds quite fair to me :BigThumb:

There are 2 types of head gaskets for the 300. The early type is composite and the late is a steel shim type. The steel gasket can be used on both early and late and is a supercession to the composite. **The composite cannot be used on the late type**
The late head has the additional coolant gallery in the headface that is allowed for in the steel gasket but not the composite as early heads did not have this drilling.
Make sure you use the late type gasket no matter what engine spec you have.
Glad its an easy, read inexpensive fix.
Hi all
The Disco is back and running well (so far anyway).
Total cost $2199, this included:
New injectors & return pipe seals
Gasket set
2 x Enzed oil cooler hoses
New oil preasure switch
Head skim to ensure no problems
New filters (Oil, Air, Fuel)
Cleaning Intercooler
Labour costs
Although I was not happy with the problem happening, I am very happy with the service I recieved from Bob Jane in Devonport (Merv Bassett). I hope mentioning the company does not breach any rules, I think it would be beneficial for other Landy owners to know of a "Landy friendly" repair guy in the area.
Cheers Andy :)

Pretty much says it all.
My 300Tdi has now done 307,000kms, for the last 100,000 odd it has been serviced every 20,000kms due to doing oil analysis to see what was happening with the oil and the engine is doing fine.
The injectors are tired and the turbo has been rebuilt but being well maintained and not thrashed they will last indeffinately.
Mine should have the steel head gasket though due to it being a 97 model but I know for sure that the head has never been off.
As I have said before, the Td5 stuff was colated for the purpose of showing a mate what he should look out for with his Disco and is not meant to be a dig and yes there is probably just as much on the 300Tdi but most of it will all come back to the few minor faults which are easilly remedied with either preventative maintenance or just keeping a close eye on things.
By the way, I agree with Rangieman, I dont go changing things like head gaskets unless they blow but if someone were to maybe find out and post what chassis number etc the gasket was changed to steel then If pre that number then I would seriously look at changing it.
140,000kms, It isnt unusuall for a low km older car to do things like headgaskets and seals when put under normal use conditions where it gets hot (normal op temp) for longer periods of time and maybe increased revs etc than the previous owner used to do.
Not for 300tdi injectors - non-serviceable units. Spray pressure and pattern are critical parameters. Prices vary a lot for replacements, so do your homework on UK suppliers as well as those in Oz.
HTH
